I always tell my kids if something scares you, do it. Persevere and overcome, choose a job you will enjoy and find challenging. Remember you'll have the GI bill for college and the military offers rare opportunities that civilians can't even pay to get. Forward Air Controller is an example, guiding in bombs from the ground. Being scared is a warning signal you should always listen to your intuition and view things on a case by case basis . If your afraid research it’s the fear of the unknown find out why your scared you may have good reason

Sundays are definitely more relaxed. When I was there our version of church was watching a service on the tv in our day room & they did have different religions to accommodate everyone. Not sure if their allowing in person services just yet. I know lights out was by 2100 , waking up was 0545. Eating? 10 minutes would be pushing it .
Congratulations I was in the Air force in 1978-1982 was awesome time , Crew chief on fighter jets at Tyndall AFB 325th AGS attached to the 95th Fighter Squadron. A little story one day on the flight line my jet landed and i parked him put the ladder on the side and the pilot had been out west somewhere. He said hey Shoe can you help me with something i said dont know what is it . this is 1979, he said i have 2 cases of Coors beer in the luggage rack (kinda like a fuel belly tank but a luggage carrier) he said if you get it to the fence ill give ya 2 six packs . I said yes lol i was 19 . So he gave me 2 six packs and I got in the Box truck we used on flight line and said hey Sarge Tech Sargent lol you want a cold coors beer , he stopped the truck and said where did you get coors beer ( in 1979 coors beer was not sold east of the mississippi yet) i said dont worry about it you want a beer lol he said hell yes, so there was 6 of us working that day so we all got 2 ice cold slush beers lol , technically they were bootlegging beer on a fighter jet lol we had so much fun down there what memories I salute all Veterans thanks for your service
Honor grad is so by chance you have to get a job like element leader dorm chief something like that and keep it because it’s based on points not really scores so you can get a score on your eoc than everybody else but still get it but bmt was a summer camp wake up pt, eat, shower clean, activities of the day chill most of the day lunch, more activities, dinner, shower change, mail and free time sleep, hope you don’t have ec duty and then do it all over again
I am in process of joining. Started out 53lbs over weight late August. Finally make required weight but recruiter wanting me to be at least 5lbs under before i go to MEPS for physical. Did pretty good on ASVAB. My question to you is how old are you? I heard you say you are older. I am 34 abs I’m sure that will be my struggle, being “older”.
I am super claustrophobic so I am super nervous about bootcamp. Also do not know my directions N E W S and my math is off point. Is this going to affect me?
The only part of Basic that I think could be concerning for you is the gas chamber during BEAST week, but when I went through we didn't get to do it . As far as direction and math you wont need it in basic, depending on your job you may.
First of all, congratulations. I am so nervous, I am waiting for bootcamp but I am so scared to fail and be sent home. I know a few people who did not pass a test and that was it. Not worried about physical but very stressed about the book work as I have not been in school for 10 years. Anything encouraging you can share?
Thank you! Well I can say that as long as you do your best & make effort you will be fine. I remember there were older women in my flight at bootcamp who made it, women who have a different first language who made it. If they can do it, you can! I even had a 5 year break in school , made it & I passed the National Registry exam for EMT , something I didn’t know I was capable of learning, understanding and applying (Shared that whole experience here ua-cam.com/video/jHxcDRHKB6Y/v-deo.html) . But I was! So just believe in yourself & try!

Hey! Yes they are. There was a couple girls in my flight with undercuts and they were fine. But it really does depend on your MTI & their preference. If your undercut isn’t a crazy noticeable design you should be good.
i have a question or two. i’m 16 and i’m interested in enlisting when i graduate high school. what should i be doing now to better my self in order to have a successful air force career?
Everything you need to know they’ll teach you. Physical activity if you’re not used to it. And do any research that your curious about, jobs, benefits, difference between active, reserve, guard. Stuff like that. Oh and I also talked to people who’ve been in for a while, & that helped a lot too for the things that you only know after you’ve been in for a while.

I have a few questions. What was the pay like at BMT. Did you get payed every 1st and 15th of the month? I’m worried about my bills while I’m gone. Also I heard that when you get to BMT they give you a shopping card for the PX.. did you receive that? Another question what was the shower situation like at BMT during COVID.? I’m going in at 26 so i know I’m old as hell compared to a lot of the females so the petty drama will not phase me.. AT LEAST I HOPE🤣🤣. Lastly I want to say congratulations!! Love the questions 😆 Pay is determined by your rank! Some people had pay issues. I had no problems though. Yes, every 1st and 15th. I was able to take care of my bills while I was away & our MTI gave us time to make sure that was squared away too. As long as you setup a system before you leave you should be straight . My situation was on autopilot so I had no worries. Yes you do get a shopping card of $400, don’t get excited though cus it definitely comes out of your check haha I was in the Alcatraz dorms so showering was close and personal despite COVID lol hey hey being older is a benefit ! I used it to my advantage haha yes pls don’t let it get to u, I barely knew what was going on , I always found out after that fact 😆 and thank youuu! I’m almost done phase 1 of tech school 🥳 posted an update if you wanna see it!

Hey Alexis, so were the MTIs able to scream directly in your face? I’m just wondering since covid is still going on. I know with the Navy they were able to still scream in your face which makes me a little uncomfortable.
What do u mean by B-school? Yes one of my plans is to open my own studio after I complete my training and I’m actively in my career field . Also considering commissioning later on .
Are you able to access all the benefits of a reservist before passing B-School ? Or you must earn your rank first ? Benefits such as paid college, subsidized mortgage, free air fares.
Soo , before I left I was able to take advantage of the the health care benefits, discounts, and TSA for flights. To my knowledge, free air fare isn’t an added benefit. As far as school, you can begin to use the tuition assistance to cover your classes after you’ve completed your tech school and CDCs for your job. Learning & mastering your job is priority.
I appreciate the sub :) Yea you can, as soon as the first weekend you get there. You won't be able to walk around in civilian clothes in the first week though.
The MTI’s are there to help you succeed so they guide you if you need it. I’d suggest practicing before you get to BMT so you have head start for PT testing.

When I went BEAST was cut out all together. Then when I left it came back haha So it could very well be back up and running by the time you get there… or not. Things change all the time.
My grandson left for BMT on 3/16/21 and we still have not heard from him regarding his address, etc. Why is it taking so long to hear from him. We are getting worried???
Wow. I’m sorry about that. I was able to send a picture of my address the night I got there. I also had friends who’s phones stopped working & such while we were there . But hopefully your grandson is talking to his MTI about reaching out. We also have limited time to speak to our family so I’d just double check to see if anyone has gotten word from him. Also, the mail system is very slow 100% of the time so mail could be on its way. Don’t worry though, I’m sure he’s fine.

I haven’t been told that. We had a briefing on social media and the most important thing was being aware of what you post and how you represent the Air Force. Also maybe because he’s not making the post directly or because of his location it shouldn’t be shared.
I’m 29 gonna be 30 by the time I get out of my tech school lol how did it feel being an older one out of the flight? Also how do the jobs switch around at bmt?
As someone who went to BMT at the age of 38, expect to be either ignored for being the “old person” or constantly bugged for being the “old person.” Either way, the younger people are going to expect you to be cool, laidback and funny. If you act all mature, serious and pretentious, they will hate you. As far as jobs go, your MTI will either ask for “volunteers” or assign you to a job.
Well, for me my tolerance for BMT & tech is higher compared to those who’ve never been away from home or haven’t developed discipline quite yet. Your mental tends to be stronger too so use all of that to your advantage! And M C is absolutely correct about the jobs in BMT. Your MTI may switch them around if needed. Mine didn’t haha
@@ABeautifulMix I would add the following: Those who joined because they wanted to (i.e., to serve, to grow professionally, as a stepping stone to something bigger) did far better at BMT and in the operational Air Force, then those who joined to get out of their parents house or to get away from a bad situation back home. Age was not a determining factor, in my opinion.

There is an officer training school (OTS) for those who want to become officers that you have to go through. So everyone I was with at BMT were all enlisted. I’ve been told it’s an easier transition to go from enlisted to officer versus going straight in as an officer.

its honestly still the same but with masks. Mtis still scream at you, pt, drill. Honestly they made the cleaning factor harder you had to clean a lot and they did a lot of inspections. Like she said in the video its really tedious.
Let me put it this way, listen to everything that is said and do it exactly as said. Don’t overthink anything or have an emotional response to anything. Nobody will try to trick you and nobody has anything against you. Above all, be yourself.
For the people who didn’t get quarantined like yourself, were the first couple weeks weird? Also, did your BMT follow the schedule that’s on the AF website as far as the 8.5 weeks?
Hey, I graduated April 15th. And yes the first 2.5 weeks you stay in the squadron except for medical reasons. (Shots + covid test). No matter if anyone test positive or not!
You can, but you won’t be able to read them or keep it in your drawer (unless it’s religious material) I brought one and they were like you won’t need that 😆
The current Covid regulations in place are set to expire mid-may, so that is when the situation will be re-evaluated by the leadership and they will determine whether to continue the graduation closure or open it up, and which guidelines to open, etc.
@@pastorclay82 That I'm not sure of, I recall seeing somewhere that they moved graduation up a couple days so trainees could get sent to Tech school sooner, so I'm assuming they don't then. However, as with opening graduation, that is due to change and if it does, it'll change in mid-may. And I'm not a professional, I actually leave soon so whatever I know is from me trying to be prepared for what to expect, which has been really hard because it seems like things change every week in these Covid times

Honor grad is so by chance you have to get a job like element leader dorm chief something like that and keep it because it’s based on points not really scores so you can get a score on your eoc than everybody else but still get it but bmt was a summer camp wake up pt, eat, shower clean, activities of the day chill most of the day lunch, more activities, dinner, shower change, mail and free time sleep, hope you don’t have ec duty and then do it all over again

I am in process of joining. Started out 53lbs over weight late August. Finally make required weight but recruiter wanting me to be at least 5lbs under before i go to MEPS for physical. Did pretty good on ASVAB. My question to you is how old are you? I heard you say you are older. I am 34 abs I’m sure that will be my struggle, being “older”.

The only part of Basic that I think could be concerning for you is the gas chamber during BEAST week, but when I went through we didn't get to do it . As far as direction and math you wont need it in basic, depending on your job you may.
First of all, congratulations. I am so nervous, I am waiting for bootcamp but I am so scared to fail and be sent home. I know a few people who did not pass a test and that was it. Thank you! Well I can say that as long as you do your best & make effort you will be fine. I remember there were older women in my flight at bootcamp who made it, women who have a different first language who made it. If they can do it, you can! I even had a 5 year break in school , made it & I passed the National Registry exam for EMT , something I didn’t know I was capable of learning, understanding and applying (Shared that whole experience here ua-cam.com/video/jHxcDRHKB6Y/v-deo.html) . But I was! So just believe in yourself & try!

Hi! I know that pony tails and braids are now authorized to be used for females. Do you know if girls are also allowed to have undercuts? I have one in the bottom back of my head, my hair covers it when it’s down but when it’s tied up, it shows
Hey! Yes they are. There was a couple girls in my flight with undercuts and they were fine. But it really does depend on your MTI & their preference. If your undercut isn’t a crazy noticeable design you should be good.

Everything you need to know they’ll teach you. Physical activity if you’re not used to it. And do any research that your curious about, jobs, benefits, difference between active, reserve, guard. Stuff like that. Oh and I also talked to people who’ve been in for a while, & that helped a lot too for the things that you only know after you’ve been in for a while.
Which are the requirements to earn Honor Guard badge ? Pushups, situps, and running ? Is it based on your age or is there a preset required number regardless of age ?

Love the questions 😆 Pay is determined by your rank! Some people had pay issues. I had no problems though. Yes, every 1st and 15th. I was able to take care of my bills while I was away & our MTI gave us time to make sure that was squared away too. As long as you setup a system before you leave you should be straight . My situation was on autopilot so I had no worries. Yes you do get a shopping card of $400, don’t get excited though cus it definitely comes out of your check haha I was in the Alcatraz dorms so showering was close and personal despite COVID lol hey hey being older is a benefit ! I used it to my advantage haha yes pls don’t let it get to u, I barely knew what was going on , I always found out after that fact 😆 and thank youuu! I’m almost done phase 1 of tech school 🥳 posted an update if you wanna see it!

Hey Alexis, so were the MTIs able to scream directly in your face? I’m just wondering since covid is still going on. I know with the Navy they were able to still scream in your face which makes me a little uncomfortable.
It wouldn’t be BMT without the screaming haha Everyone, including the instructors, are required to wear a mask though.

What do u mean by B-school? Yes one of my plans is to open my own studio after I complete my training and I’m actively in my career field . Also considering commissioning later on .
B-school is what old timers call tech school. A-school is boot camp. B-school is tech school. There is no C-school. ;)

Benefits such as paid college, subsidized mortgage, free air fares.
Soo , before I left I was able to take advantage of the the health care benefits, discounts, and TSA for flights. To my knowledge, free air fare isn’t an added benefit.
As far as school, you can begin to use the tuition assistance to cover your classes after you’ve completed your tech school and CDCs for your job. Learning & mastering your job is priority.

The MTI’s are there to help you succeed so they guide you if you need it. I’d suggest practicing before you get to BMT so you have head start for PT testing.

My grandson left for BMT on 3/16/21 and we still have not heard from him regarding his address, etc. Why is it taking so long to hear from him. We are getting worried???
Wow. I’m sorry about that. I was able to send a picture of my address the night I got there. I also had friends who’s phones stopped working & such while we were there . But hopefully your grandson is talking to his MTI about reaching out. We also have limited time to speak to our family so I’d just double check to see if anyone has gotten word from him. Also, the mail system is very slow 100% of the time so mail could be on its way. Don’t worry though, I’m sure he’s fine.

I’m 29 gonna be 30 by the time I get out of my tech school lol how did it feel being an older one out of the flight? Also how do the jobs switch around at bmt?
As someone who went to BMT at the age of 38, expect to be either ignored for being the “old person” or constantly bugged for being the “old person.” Either way, the younger people are going to expect you to be cool, laidback and funny. If you act all mature, serious and pretentious, they will hate you. As far as jobs go, your MTI will either ask for “volunteers” or assign you to a job.
Well, for me my tolerance for BMT & tech is higher compared to those who’ve never been away from home or haven’t developed discipline quite yet. Your mental tends to be stronger too so use all of that to your advantage! And M C is absolutely correct about the jobs in BMT. Your MTI may switch them around if needed. Mine didn’t haha
@@ABeautifulMix I would add the following: Those who joined because they wanted to (i.e., to serve, to grow professionally, as a stepping stone to something bigger) did far better at BMT and in the operational Air Force, then those who joined to get out of their parents house or to get away from a bad situation back home. Age was not a determining factor, in my opinion.

Did you train with officer candidates? Or is that a separate location / camp ?
There is an officer training school (OTS) for those who want to become officers that you have to go through. So everyone I was with at BMT were all enlisted. I’ve been told it’s an easier transition to go from enlisted to officer versus going straight in as an officer.

its honestly still the same but with masks. Mtis still scream at you, pt, drill. Honestly they made the cleaning factor harder you had to clean a lot and they did a lot of inspections. Like she said in the video its really tedious.

Let me put it this way, listen to everything that is said and do it exactly as said. Don’t overthink anything or have an emotional response to anything. Nobody will try to trick you and nobody has anything against you. Above all, be yourself.

Hey, I graduated April 15th. And yes the first 2.5 weeks you stay in the squadron except for medical reasons. (Shots + covid test). No matter if anyone test positive or not!

The current Covid regulations in place are set to expire mid-may, so that is when the situation will be re-evaluated by the leadership and they will determine whether to continue the graduation closure or open it up, and which guidelines to open, etc.

@@pastorclay82 That I'm not sure of, I recall seeing somewhere that they moved graduation up a couple days so trainees could get sent to Tech school sooner, so I'm assuming they don't then. However, as with opening graduation, that is due to change and if it does, it'll change in mid-may.
And I'm not a professional, I actually leave soon so whatever I know is from me trying to be prepared for what to expect, which has been really hard because it seems like things change every week in these Covid times
