- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- This third generation MINI 3-Door Hatch has been usefully improved - though not beyond recognition. Jonathan Crouch takes a look.
Fresh technology, smarter connectivity, standard-fit front and rear LED lights across the range and an advanced dual-clutch automatic gearbox are amongst the highlight changes made to this revised MINI 3-Door Hatch model. If you liked it before, you'll really like it now.

I own this car and can say this review has the ownership and driving experience down perfectly.
Thanks for watching 👍
I'm certainly no petrol-head, but I thought this was just about the most comprehensive and well-presented car reviews I've even seen. Thank you.
Wow that's great to hear. Thank you!
I am in agreement x
Best Mini review bar none
I have just bought this exact mini and would like to say this video is most informative. I have learnt more than any dealer salesperson could ever tell me. Thank you and keep up the excellent excellent work.
Very kind of you to say! For more in-depth car reviews, make sure to subscribe: bit.ly/319ZKoT
Staggeringly detailed and informative! Far from the usual half-hearted reviews. Many thanks.

This really reminds me of top gear years ago when actual information was the cor principle.excellent the only mini break down you will need to see.
We appreciate the great feedback 👍 Many thanks for watching!
I ordered my MINI f56 Cooper S in the late Autumn for a March 2020 delivery.
After the initial excitement, I was disappointed when I stopped thinking about it all the time, so I started watching review vids of each model and I now know I have made the right choice. The only choice I wasn’t certain on was the colour. Actually I was certain...in my mind, I was sure I was having a red one but then I saw one in Starlight blue on the forecourt and it looked lovely. So I was baffled... red or blue? The lady in sales came out with a pack of coloured plaques which my husband and I thumbed through until we ended up having rejected all of the colours except blue and red and so were still no better off. I spun myself around in my chair and all the time we had been sitting next to a black 3 door Cooper S which looked stunning. I turned back to my hubby and asked him, “Do you like this 1 in black?” He said yes and with that, the sales lady filled in the form! I had been undecided for ages only to be so impulsive.
Since then I have been buying a few interior accessories in black and white check.
It’s now 34 days until I can collect it. 😄 #SoExcited from Gena
I have a british racing green F56 Cooper S. You have made the right choice.
The 1.5 three cylinder variant is a decent car, superb handling, comfortable ride, enough power for most people etc but I still prefer the 2 litre Cooper S. Yes it may have a hard ride round town, you feel every bump but you ignore that because its such a great car to drive and sounds fantastic in sport mode. Nothing else quite like it. I know because I got a Cooper S two weeks ago :)
Maybe the cooper s is better in way mode things, but for sound, my stock 1.5 one with jcw kit sounds 100 times better than a stock cooper s.
@@kd35trey39 As an update, I ended up trading it in for a Subaru Outback. Life has not been easy the last year or two and considering the 1.5 Mini, ive tested a couple through work, I like the fact it has a twin scroll turbo so there is no hesitancy between gear shifts. Big engine for a three cylinder. Good prices as well.
I have a cooper and I don't think the ride is as harsh as people say.
I upgraded from a Clio
I had one of the 2002 Minis. Which I loved. But I did really get to know my mechanic far too well. Has the build quality and reliability improved on these later models?
@@mdgeorge4993 the F55,56/57 generation has been very reliable from 2016 onwards. There were issues in the 2014 and 2015 models.
But reasonable reliable. Not without faults, but definitely more reliable than older mini's by far.
I can’t wait until I get my Mini Cooper sport. Got my test next month
Great choice Cameron. Let us know how you get on with your Cooper Sport!
What a very good informative insight to the whole Mini range you have given.

Lot of details! Great review!
Really good review, loved the Halfords Jack analogy! 😄
Excellent review, well presented and comprehensive. I have a Mini cooper R56, 2007 model. From this review, my next car will be another Mini 3 door hatchback, this time the Cooper S.
Fantastic cars to drive with the BMW genes now integrated fully. Gone are the french engine unreliability washed out.
Hi Harprit, we'd be more than happy to get you behind the wheel of a new MINI 👍 Reach out to our team today: bit.ly/39YHCml
We've just ordered the mini cooper S automatic with comfort pack today, hoping it actually does the stated 41.5mpg. we're old so we're not heavy on the foot! We have a 17 countryman diesel automatic at the mo, it's showing 46.5 mpg!
Would be great to hear how you get on with it 👍
@@rivervalegroup I will do once we have it, should be the end of September. Our countryman had to go in for a keying scratch repair recently, the garage gave us a Mini Cooper just a basic one, automatic, but I absolutely loved the experience, struggled between choices of Cooper/Cooper S, decided on Cooper S, hope weve made the right choice re overall fuel economy, it's hard to make the right choice, Cooper 44.5mpg Cooper S 41.1mpg, (so they say combined), but we're 83 and 67, so we're not speedster's. We're also having the eco green pack so that may help! 😊👍🏻
The best review I've seen for a very long time, excellent I'm off to buy one.
Hi there, if you live in the UK we can certainly help you secure this car. Call Amanda on 01903 223391 :)
I’m getting one on Tuesday!!
Can you buy me one please haha
Great and comprehensive review.
The seat does remember where you left it if you push it back before moving the upper part of the seat.
But as I say great video. Maybe a touch repetitive in parts but covers a lot of information

Praying to have a mini soon as my first car 🤲🏻❤
Superb, comprehensive review.
One small correction though - Re: Union Jack rear lights. Yes, they do come as standard now but YOU CAN specify normal rear lights as a zero cost option if you wish. States this in the latest Mini brochure and confirmed by Mini themselves.
Thanks for the feedback 👍 a good point, this is already an update since the video was filmed
OSV - No worries. I think because many people were calling them "UKIP” lights and laughing at them Mini were wise to listen to the feedback. 😁
@@CiderGuy What has the union jack flag got to do with UKIP? It's a Great Britain flag representing the original birth place of where it was born. It has nothing to do with politics. 🙄
originalfunfair - Try reading my comment again. Did I say I said this? No, I did not. It is what many people are saying on forums and UA-cam about the lights. Sheesh! LOL 😂
Are the Union Jack rear lights available in the USA? They look really awesome. Thanks.
I have a Mini Cooper. Thank God every time I crank it up and drive.
Glad you're enjoying your Mini Cooper, Paul! What made you choose this model?
Excellent and very comprehensive review. We’re picking up a Cooper with JCS pack today.
Great choice 👌 Let us know how you find it!
@@rivervalegroup Unfortunately its not mine - it's the wife's car. Pity as I want one now! It drives lovely - great handling and plenty of power considering its not the Cooper S - there's little need for the extra horsepower on UK roads, as its plenty quick enough. With the JCW sports pack as well it looks outstanding! Love it....
Excellent review - very thorough!

Traded my a class Mercedes in for this little beauty in the moonwalk! Pick her up in the morning.. can’t wait x
Exciting stuff! What made you choose this model?
@@rivervalegroup I thought it looked sporty,I loved the colour, after I test drove it.. I was sold, had it 3 days now.. I’m completely in love.
Have a manual transmission 3 cylinder. It's a blast
Great review as ever. Over the past 50 years, it's put on more weight than me! The retro just feels a bit gimmicky, particularly the personalisation options which I suppose would be a bit of a nightmare come resale time. I had an original Mini, which admittedly rusted to pieces, but the design was simple - the modern equivalent looks a bit of a mess to my eye.
The MINI is no longer mini, that's for sure (with no reference to your weight there 🤣) Thanks for the comment Nodge X
@@rivervalegroup LOL!!!
Like you, I had the original mini with its massive 998 cc engine ha. It was such good fun as a young man but now I have a Cooper S. I am going to keep it standard, im 51 and not interested in silly gimmicky customisations of cars. Will hold its value better that way as well.
@@oddities-whatnot The Cooper S is a very cool little thing. You're right to avoid the customisations, besides which it has more than enough personality to begin with!
Yyy I'm
Great review. I'm looking into the new Cooper SE currently. It's too bad it hasn't got the Cooper S like front and rear bumpers that this review Cooper has as part of the JCW package.

Am hopping this becomes my car in 2020
🐸 are you? Aww
34 days until I’m due to collect my car unless there are any production delays. ☺️
Ya’s messed up in not adding a bit of a brighter lighter looking more color variation interior as my 2005 R52 Hot Orange exterior and it’s a convertible and Ruth matching touches of the same hot orange touches in the interior! 👍
I have a strange question and I hope someone may be able to answer me. I am a fairly new driver looking to buy my second car. My car currently is a Toyota Aygo and I’m looking to upgrade to a Cooper or Cooper S. Price isn’t an obstacle on these models but seeing as I’ve only had a pretty slow car so far, would a Cooper S be complete overkill? Appreciate anyone’s input :)
Cooper should be fine. I am going from a slow, small Tacoma to a 3-cylinder Cooper. Probably more fun to push the Cooper than 'tame' the S.
I had a 2007 cooper s as my first car. I am looking to get my second- this time a 2015 cooper s with a manual. I wouldn’t take a step down- the s is too much fun!
Blkojo thanks for your time :)
Carter’s Happy Plants noted! I did end up opting with the S but doesn’t look like you can go wrong either way
Cooper S. Get a used one, much better value. It has a hard ride round town but thats to be expected. Its a quick car when you need it to be.
Just picked up a brand new 2023 not even a week old and the trunk won’t completely lock so the rear back up cameras does not work. I have to drive 30 miles to dealership.
I love "1499 GT"

How expensive is headlight replacement?
Hi Lee, this is something your local Mini garage would be able to help you with 👍
Phone your local Mini dealer.
Why did the petrol cap change sides on the gen 3 model compared to previous? BMW floorpan ? Just a thought
I wondered that too.
Also with the current f56, the Mini one and Cooper; their gauges are covered with a filler flap whereas the Cooper S and Works models both have the actual filler cap on display and look all the sportier for being that way.
Is there a significant difference in cost to run if going for the cooper or cooper S? (If driven sensibility of course)
Feel free to get in contact with our vehicle expert team, sure they would be able to help with this and any other questions you have 👌 www.osv.ltd.uk/contact-us/
The driving modes let you control this to a large extent - use economy mode if you want to save fuel. The Cooper S can get 47 mpg but the Cooper can get well into the 50's.
Chantel I have there mini's Cooper S, Cooper convertible and the Cooper Paceman S ALL4. I live in Canada so the ALL4 is great in the winter. Te convertible is the old 4 cylinder non turbo model. The gas mileage on the Cooper S automatic is mid 30's as long as you don't get carried away. Would love the Diesel here but they don't sell them in Canada.
William Woollard anyone! 😂🤘🎸😎
We're flattered, Andy! 😅 Interested in getting a Mini Hatchback?
@@rivervalegroup had a 2006 cooper and always missed it!
The new Maxi
Which the colour of the model tested? Is it Moonwalk Grey metallic?
Hi Andrea, it certainly is 👍 Are you interested in getting one?
@@rivervalegroup hello, yes I already bought it here near to Milan, I am waiting for it arrives (Mini Clubman SD) Moonwalk Grey metallic, so I ask in order to know how it looks.
I thought the colour was Emerald Grey?
Great review but... Bigger, fatter, heavier - Sort of belies the name "Mini". I'd love to see this "Mini" photographed along side an original Mini.
A good point, the MINI is no longer mini 👍 should they change the name to BIGGIE?
Your title should say 2018 model year if that's what it is (or 2019). Otherwise, interesting, informative
Thanks for the feedback 👍
It’s a lovely little car. Well, on account of the safety norms and all, it isn’t quite as ‘little’ though..more like a nice strongly built robust hot hatch...
Anyway all cars across the world have grown significantly in size and girth over these last 20 years...
At the 13.00 mark why did you say ‘ this R56’ when referring to this particular car that you are reviewing?
The R56 ( one of which I own out here in India) is the model produced between 2006-2013.
This generation of Mini that you are reviewing, as you said at the beginning of the video, is the F 56.
There is absolutely no doubt that the F56 is much quieter than the R56. With increasingly tightening noise pollution restrictions this was only to be expected.
It is quite a money waste in India. Just like all CBU cars. Our government is simply living in the 50s. Recently they've announced that cars on roads are a public place and anyone can approach them.
I've seen in other reviews the Mini has offset pedals, is that true?
I test drove a Cooper yesterday and it did not have offset pedals.
How often should we change oil engine?
The car's electronic systems will tell you when. It depends on your driving style and other factors.
Can anyone comment on the 1.2 petrol engine. Is it any good?
Get the 1.5, its the pick of the range for value.
It didn’t have one it’s a 1.5
5:04 was that a T junction!
19:40 gotta have enough cabbage space in the mini, very important
I thought bigger defeats the purpose of "mini".
Has the 2.0 been improved ? power has dropped from 192 BHP to 176 BHP ……
Hi Martin, yes this review is a few years old and it appears the Mini Hatch has been improved since then. If you'd like to explore pricing and specs for the latest model with one of our vehicle experts feel free to get in touch on 01903 538835 - more than happy to help! 👍📞
Not offering Android auto has a "we don't care to pursue customers among the losers who don't have an iPhone" terribly arrogant and displeasing ring to it.
The same goes for going without driving assistance systems, chief among those auto-braking.
This said... the car is still very attractive, and if you purchase it without unneeded extras, the price isn't unreasonable for the overall quality.
5:05
You nearly crash the car
Hi Heilong, safety is our top priority when filming our reviews!
The new mini is becoming to look a bit frumpy and looking like middle age spread ,why didnt they follow on from the coupe
Like most cars there ok till they go wrong. However. Working on a mini engine is a nightmare and will cost an arm and leg to fix. .
So basically, lets NOT buy ANY car in case it goes wrong. Pessimist.
Does Lewis Hamilton heel n toe any more in Formula1? I thought all Formula 1 race cars use paddle shifters now and there was no need for a clutch anymore. It's not like the old days when Juan Fangio had to take one hand off the steering wheel and shift into the next gear.
The last thing I want is touch screen functionality or touch controls. They are inherently dangerous. That’s why I would never consider a modern VW.
Too long, too repetitive…
Is it a girls or mans
Both!
MINI, bigger than an Allegro, weight of a Maxi. Fat, ugly and not worthy of the name.
Issigonis and Moulton are probably spinning in their graves...... or hooting with laughter at the utter nonsense of these cars and the fact that people buy them. They are so far removed from the ethos of the Mini, and there are smaller, cleverer cars which make the name a mockery.
I am torn between a Swift Sport and a Cooper.
Of course the Suzuki has a purer "soul", it doesn't come with the aggressive marketing aimed at too-pampered youths the Mini does, it's sold in a honest way (meaning you don't have to pay money to... get the right to choose, among else, what color you want it to be), and all.
But then... you feel the seats on your back and beneath your bottom; the pedals; the audio system, the climate control; the sound of doors opening and closing, the feel of levers and buttons on your hands, ... and it's just so much better, the Mini, that makes you torn between that purity and lightness, and this compromise, which still values driving pleasure to a decent degree - of course as long as you get one with the manual gearbox, which is still possible today for the Cooper and will soon no longer be I expect -.
So it's not easy when you think you are going to use the car for 150-200k miles... for how many of those will you really feel the need for the Suzuki's handling and bubbliness?... and if you add no extras whatever to the base car, the price is enough close to the Swift Sport's to make the decision difficult.
I wonder if they ever bring out a new Allagro or Maxi...what shitboxes they will be.
What a waste it is not electric. Why waste all the time and effort on ancient technology that we know costs 10x to maintain and run? Terribly anti-consumer and ignorant of demand.
The MINI electric is being released later this year.
Because EV’s don’t pop and crackle on the overrun. EV hot hatch? It doesn’t really work as a hot hatch.
Moron🙄
As if electric cars are in high demand. They are just a fad and definitely not viable at the moment
Mining for lithium and disposing of batteries when they die is far worse. Get real.
This really reminds me of top gear years ago when actual information was the cor principle.excellent the only mini break down you will need to see.
