Our First Time Watching: The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 7 (Sing Me a Song): Michonne walks down a single-lane road, whistling to attract walkers. She kills two walkers she's lured and drags their bodies away. Separately, Carl and Jesus have stowed away on the same Saviors' truck as it is driven back to their base, Sanctuary. Carl tricks Jesus into getting out of the truck, and he stays with it as it pulls into the Sanctuary's yard, where he sees the Saviors' leader Negan, several Saviors, and his friend Daryl. Carl attempts to shoot Negan, killing two of his Saviors before he is pinned down by Dwight. Negan is impressed by Carl's bravery, and escorts him around the factory floor and then introduces him to his "harem" of wives. There, Sherry (Christine Evangelista) reluctantly concedes to Negan that one of his other wives, Amber (Autumn Dial), has been cheating on him with her ex-boyfriend, Mark (Griffin Freeman). In response, Negan admonishes Amber and tells Dwight, with Daryl in tow, to "fire up that furnace."
Alone with Carl, Negan tells the boy he is trying to bond with him, and asks him to remove his bandages so he can look at Carl's missing eye, coercing Carl by reminding him he killed two of his men. After Carl takes off the bandage, Negan humiliates him by asking if he can touch it, and Carl starts crying, and Negan backs off. As part of paying off his "debt" to him, Negan asks Carl to sing to him, and Carl weakly sings "You Are My Sunshine". This leads to Carl explaining how he had to shoot his mother to prevent her from turning. Later, Negan takes Carl with him to see Mark's punishment, having half his face branded with a hot iron.

Gabriel: "What you're saying doesn't make you a sinner. But it does make you a tremendous shit."
Negan is now in Alexandria waiting for Rick with baby Judith in his arms, that should be interesting for the next episode which is the mid-season finale.

Lol just wait until you see the look on Ricks face. I think I have that image forever embedded in my memory!
      This is a fun episode.
At the time TWD was getting ALOT of criticism for the way they were handling this season... especially after the way it started off.
Watching it in real time week by week you could tell it probably had to do with the budget.
They were called bottle episodes. Where you get just one or a few characters and a single storyline or location each week....rather than combining the storylines and locations.

@Wendy C people had the same problem with season 4 then season 5 paid off very well for it all. The problem was the week by week and the long breaks. Binging definitely helped a lot of people appreciate the slower seasons

Olivia actually slapped negan. The actor of negan told her to, and she was like “are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you.” And he was like totally I want it to be real. So on the take they show she actually slapped him. And it was hard so hard that when the scene was over all the crew ran up to him to make sure he was okay. And after she told him “I told you so.” So the shock in negans face is actual shock lol.

  • @mrsfahrenheit
    @mrsfahrenheit Рік тому +3

ahh yes another great reaction to another great episode 😌 this and next one really are two of my absolute favorite season 7 episodes.
Negan really is entertaining to watch and I think almost everyone had this little moral conflict inside watching this episode for the first time because we all somewhat found ourselves liking Negan to some degree😅, he did some really horrible and gruesome things- even in this episode- but weirdly enough in this episode he has a certain honesty or straight- forwardness about him that makes him likeable..
and yes, seeing him interact with Carl also brought up a different side to his character. It kinda showed us that Negan is pretty self aware, he's not delusional to a point where he's so convinced that what he's doing is the perfect way to go about things but he does feel like this is the way that works best and makes sure that people will fall in line and assure that you have other's respect, even though it comes from fear and not from admiration and he kept showing exactly that to Carl throughout the episode.
That's where I draw the line between Negan and the Governor.
You mentioned that it seems like Negan does seem to have a moral code and it is true. Negan is of course an asshole but he has morals and a system behind his actions, he only punishes people for either overstepping these morals or threatening the system because he is very well aware that one weak link, one step out of line that has no following consequence would be able to take down his empire because people would start questioning his believability. Negan knows that there's no greater good than manpower and he's also aware that he has to give the people something in return, as he said himself : people are a resource. Meanwhile the Governor on the other hand didn't think that far. He was so convinced that he's untouchable that he never actually considered there would be any people questioning his ways, he also didn't have a moral code or the ability to think rationally anymore hence why his whole system ended up crushing down in only a split second. The Governor was as a leader just big words but no action, meanwhile Negan is able to back his words up. The Governor killed people (from his community and others aka the prison) out of pure hatred and rather irationally because he knew how little control he actually had and how fragile his whole system was, meanhwile whenever Negan kills it's well thought through and for a specific reason. He'd never try to take over the prison for example just for the sake of it because he knows it's way more efficient to make the people living there work for you instead and what use did the prison have really ? Even when the Governor tried to take it, there was no reason for it because Woodbury was cleared of Walkers and pretty well set up and secured already, it literally made no fuckin sense from a strategic and logic background to take it. He just wanted to have it because he thought he had a right to have it and because he wanted revenge🤷🏼‍♀️, you know what I mean?
So Negan vs Govenor as leaders of a community: The Governor would have caused his own demise in no time (even faster than how it happened int the show with Rick) because he easily let's rage and anger cloud his mind. If we're speaking on a one vs one bare knuckle fight though I think it depends on who lands the first good hit XD

In the comics, carl shoots at negan as soon as he shows himself but because carl is a tiny 9 or 10 year old, he gets knocked on his ass firing an automatic weapon. In the show, negan shows up and despite being on a suicide mission, carl just decides not to shoot him because he's been using automatic rifles since season 4

Tom Payne (Jesus) trained very hard for Jesus. He wasn't as nimble before hand. He did tremendous in his stunts and did his own.
Negan is just a charismatically scary, loveable guy. He cracks down to prove a point but if you follow the rules and aren't shady, he'll respect it.
The Governor was just unhinged and a great "car salesman". Negan holds power through fear (his debut in comics is Something To Fear) and the Governor holds power through manipulation.
Saviors will do anything for Negan because of fear for not only themselves but their families as well.
Phillip didn't hold that power. Which is why when they left the battle at the prison he gunned them all down.

'If we, the viewers, had been following Negan & his crew, since the start of the show, & we only meet Rick & gang when they hit the satellite hideout... And here's the question, would we but rooting for Negan?
Would we see Rick & the rest as murderers?'
    Hmmm...🤔😁
That question came up every now & there, especially on the after show, 'Talking Dead.'
I watched that after show for 10 seasons!
Lots of laughs, actors, & directors talking about the episodes, it was really good if you're interested. If you want just check it out, I'd suggest any ep that had Rick, Darryl, Maggie, Negan, of course, the funniest, imo, is the man with the best hair! Eugene!

You are now seeing the charisma of Negan and how has become loved as a villain even though he did the unforgivable. Negan is a true love/hate relationship for me.

This episodes definatly is the beginning of the relationship between Carl and Negan.
Good episode this one. Negan is such a complex character. For me personally, one of the best characters in any series, ever.

I think what we don’t see at first is that when you absolutely brutalize people to death in front of their friends, those people get cowed and are much, much less likely to revolt or fight. He pushed Rick until he saw Rick’s will break, then he was good to leave. They knew about everyone, who people were, some of their skills. They had NO CLUE about Carol because she never left the compound. He knew about Darell because of Dwayne, and wanted to recruit him. I think he was taunting people until Darell snapped. Then broke Darells heart making HIM feel responsible.
I think he uses terror to maintain control, but I don’t think he actually loves doing it to people. I think he puts that crazy smile on that personality to keep his cool, to maintain an image of being able to do anything to anyone.

SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN SEASON 9. the very first time i watched the walking dead, after i finished an episode i would sometimes watch reactions to the same episode to hear other people’s opinions on everything so don’t read ahead if ur one of them people, you’ve been warned.
i do believe jesus’ actor (tom payne) took a bunch of lessons to do with stunts and parkour because jesus is insanely cool like that in the comics. this is ultimately what led to jesus’ death in the show (he survives to the end in the comics). tom payne felt jesus was being underused and he was kinda annoyed that he took all these lessons to perform cool tricks on the show but he wasn’t being given any screen time. the actor asked to leave the show, hence why we lost jesus.

I 100% think Simon is a way worse alternative to Negan. Negan is an asshole, but he has a code (even if it's a violent, apocalyptic code.) But Simon is just cruel and unhinged. He's only kept in line by Negan at this point.

For me the Governor was the bigger (or worse?) villain because he killed everyone who was in his way (or at least tried it). But Negan is the better character. He is more complex, funby and one of the best judges of character in the show.

Negan is such a complex villain. He's evil and charming and he keeps you off balance. The kind of character you enjoy hating. I like how you get to imagine him doing that to dwight and why he can control so many people. It is a fun episode.

The scene with Mark's wife has such rapey energy. Even though they agreed to it, its blatantly obvious that it wasn't much of a free choice for some of them.

Negan is very charismatics guy and creative with torture! He's so complex and it's what I like in any villain esp. as an otaku/geek. Helps me a lot on creative conceptual ideas.
Negan and his many wives look to be not on the same boat. I love how Negan deals with the world of an apocalyptic era, it's like he's born for it; to be twisted but accountable for his sanctuary and micromanage every bit of its dynamics and structure. Very witty, intelligent and reliable leader. He's like Shane but with a better attitude and not ashamed of it. It's just sick that he's on the side of the devil X'O
Trust me if there is a devil (I've only seen people close to it) he's look like Negan man and sucker everyone to believe that he's the greater "good."
A lot of people would be suckered in of course-the weak minded, the delusional and desperate because people are at their worst when they cannot control something/themselves and are afraid! Truth.
