For those who dont know: This is the first official localization of Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, which was until today stuck on Super Famicom and never got a western release. It was the first and only game Misako and Kyoko appeared in as playable characters until RCG. Super awesome of WayForward to bring this to Switch with a few bells and whistles!
EDIT: it was super controversial because it took the series in a very mature direction and dealt with darker themes. Language was really vulgar in it too (according to fan translations). Likely the reason it never saw the light of day outside of Japan.

Well, Misako actually originated back in the Japanese version of the World Cup game and she'd make perodical appearances here and there.
Kyoko though, was absent until the recent sports titles.

I just love it when they sing songs that litterally narrates what is happening on screen. It's a joke, but whoever sings it has a great voice, it balance out to something more awesome and legit.
Megan McDuffie did the music.

What’s funny is that they title it “River City Girls Zero,” yet the game’s story revolves around Kunio and Riki.
But this was the game that served as the basis for Wayforward's River City Girls. No?
Honestly they should have named it something else
1. This game was the reason WayForward made River City Girls in the first place, so it makes sense to emphasize that connection.
2. The original title is "Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-tachi no Banka", for which any even remotely accurate translation would be hopelessly cumbersome.
Love the retro anime look. That needs to be resurrected.

David Production is adapting "Urusei Yatsura", a manga by Ranma 1/2 creator Rumiko Takahashi
, into a new anime series. Be on the lookout for that one.

Never played this series since I suck at beat em ups, but the character designs have always looked so sick.
U can play this. Original was for 2 button Nintendo so i don't think there are any complicated combos

@@JustAjerk4252 wow calm down that’s way too complicated. These are Tekken level button combos were dealing with here, not to mention some have directional attacks and even arial attacks
In order to enjoy beat em ups, always start at an easier difficulty. Its a good way to get a feel for both the gameplay and the characters you fight with.
Kids are gonna know the Kunio series as RCG prequels now lemao

Yeah its sad.... But new kunio games don't sell :c the 3ds one (the remake rcr) its so good, but it was almost imposible to find a physical copy

Luckily, I was able to obtain Rival Showdown and Tokyo Rumble months before the 3ds was discontinued.

Back when the Girls are a thing, I've always been a fan of the Nekketsu games.
And when Nekketsu Kakotou Densetsu got an official english release after 30 years, I got so hyped. I'm glad the Nekketsu/Kunio-Kun series are getting more love.
Same. That was one of my favorite NES games. Kinda like a proto 8-bit Smash Bros for the NES. I was shocked when I learned it was getting an official english translation 30 years later.

The OG River City Random on NES is an all time classic, especially with that secret bookshop in the tunnel.

@@paperluigi6132 Actually they're publishing it, another Dev is working on that game. Wayforward already has River City Girls 2 and TMNT in development. That's busy having those two project's going on not to mention this one.

Ok, I’m not trying to be a gaming expert here (even though I am), but this game originally only released for the Super Famicom in Japan on Friday, April 29th, 1994, with the concept of a somehow canonical Kunio-Kun/River City spin-off game starring the main characters’ girlfriends not coming back until the release of River City Girls on Thursday, September 5th, 2019. Get your facts straight!

It's a re-release/official localization of a River City Ransom/Kunio-Kun game that never got a Western release, so it's actually a SNES game!

Going to play that wth my twin sister,we enjoyed RCG1 and though this is not the same thing it would be nice to see where it comes from.
