To all people: Subscription models are simply greedy. It’s up to us to say no. If we have subscriptions for everything it’s completely unsustainable. I pay to own what I want to acquire, simple.

    A. S1 lacks functionalities compared to other DAWs and their recent updates.
    B. Givin new feature (vsti) only to subscribers n givin a hard middle finger to Perpetual owners is a giant dick move.
    C. Cubase is on sale + DAW crossgrade sale till 28th of April.
Now I am tryin my hardest to stay but it's lookin damn hard

yep ! they think they can become something like the bapple guys 🤣sort of " you people should feel priveleged to use our product " well guess what : bitwig, ableton, cubase, maybe soon sonar again, FL studio ( and it is indeed usable allthough i used to hate it a lot ) and many more so no presonus empire ! they try hard to become a sort of bapple in the daw industrie but let them know that instead of dreaming they rather should feel prvivileged when real musicians ( i am only midocre or semipro and i dont wanna change to anything else any time soon...can bear it having no private live and ) take their daw and also we semiproffesionals because if they piss people off they are gonna lose people who give their money to them. so not we are the rivileged to use the holy daw of presonus but they should feel privileged that we chosed to use their daw. i personaly can swipe daws like so and even then with every new daw start to make music with no issues ! so no i wount regret it if i wake up one morning have the budget at hand and say you know what presnus i quite and helooo ableton or bitwig or fl studio or even change the whole system to mac os and go with logic or even luna .... i need only one day and a new daw is no lonher new to me

You said it all! I was VERY HEATED about the 6.6 update, since I have the Pro edition, but could not get "Lead Architect". Crazy thing was that the first few UA-cam videos I saw on the 6.6 update said NOTHING about having to have the subscription to get the new VST. They actually made it seem like when you update the software, the VST was included. I'm not leaving S1 cause as you said, I don't have the time to learn a completely new DAW. But I really felt this was pretty FOUL on their end.

    • @IronClan2024
      @IronClan2024 2 місяці тому

@Ibantar : yep thats the strategy behind they do not tell those things since they get payed to holyfie studio 6.6 and even the very Studio One 6.6 pro they have , they got from Presonus for free to only holyfie their daw. Now i am a mediocre Musician ( thats what i rank myself due to the litle experience i have ) and i do not own a studio nor do i make money with produceing music although i could , but i dont do it, so i am for sure not dependent on using Studio One. I was thinking about going with Pro but their policy horrible to say the least. i am not gonna pay almost 400 euro / USD and then having a DAW that comes with only 5 Instruments while i could get for the same prise one that has almost 13 and comes with more then any version of studio one has and yes i am taliking about ableton standard ! which is the very DAW i am gonna switch to
right now i am using the Artist version and for my needs ( i do anyway most of the stuff the oldschool way which often does not need any fabcy fx plugins and stuff allthough i have enough 3rd party stuff at hand ) it is enough but i am not going to move over to pro because i am as so many dissapointed and let me give you an example:
usualy i would expect a upgrade to come with a lesser prise but the funny thing is i would actualy pay a bigger prise then simply buying the pro version and again all i get are still only 5 instruments well 4 actualy since one is a sampler anyway and is maybe only technicly a instrument. using ableton standard for some 179 euro has not only a whole bunc more fx - which i probably do not use anyway since i do much of thre stuff oldschool - but has 13 instruments on board and a upgrade to suite is prisevise with a better then presonuses upgrade policy.
studio one for me is just one more of the many daws i have used in the last almost 20 years , starting with a reason verion that i cannot remmeber which one ...well it has not changed snayway so who cares. Then Magix and then reaper ( wich has not what a good daw needs to have ) and up to some 2 years ago Cakewalk by Bandlab which then also got no longer updated since they want to return with a new sonar ( hopefuly with no subscription shit ) and now studio one but there are plenty of options outthere. as for learning : most of the DAW have much of the stuff anyway in common so i dont care with regard to that. i never used stufio one brefor beside taking a lok at that prime toy thing , but as soon i installed it i started producing with no issues because i knew where the basic stuff is and thats the same with most daws so there is no reason for me to stick with S1

Frankly, I laughed when I heard the new synth. It sounds dated and cheap. Nothing I would use. To me, it's a gimmick to entice new comers into a subscription. If they were going to do it right, they could have at least partnered with someone like Cherry Audio who they sometimes sold within their virtual instrument offerings. (Haven't seen any lately though). As for ditching SO? I certainly will if they go 100% subscription. But I doubt it. It's gonna be fine.

I've been with Presonus Studio One since late 2011, V2. This latest version and the firewalled VST did sting. Your take has been one of the most measured and fair. I trust Presonus will listen to you, as an influencer. I'll wake up tomorrow and continue to rock Studio One, waiting for the dust to settle. Regarding my path forward - I really have to consider the value of the hybrid model...It is compelling. What I may do is chill until V7 drops, buy Hybrid and that will serve as my perpetual license upgrade for the next year, gaining access to the stability updates and maybe good point updates over that year. At the end of the time, if the extra content is not worth it, I've enjoyed experimenting with it and get to keep my copy (minus the dang VST!)...I'm sincerely hoping S1 will add stem separation as basic functionality in V7 - THAT will signal to the producer community a positive note...

I am fine with PreSonus making the new VST subscription only, as there are many 3rd party options that seem a lot better, some free. I would have been choked, though, if they had done so with the Vocoder and improved Pro EQ. Even then, there are so many great options. It's the core DAW features that are important to me anyway. If any of those ever become subscription only, I will seriously consider switching to another DAW.

I’m effectively, perpetual license users are not able to get the full S1 experience unless they go subscription. And only PreSonus knows what they want to place into the subscription only “box” in the future, which is a very bad precedent that they are opening.

I'm not mad about the new subscription model, I think it's pretty good. I'm also fine with exclusive subscription features like the online environment because that takes servers and servers have upkeep costs.
But putting requested offline features behind a paywall is some of the most corporate BS I've seen. Combine this with Tunecore and apple earbuds stuff and it's clear that 6.6 was a completely corporate update. None of this was for the musicians, producers, etc. At least they had the decency not to make it a full numbered update.

i dont need to create a new virtual instrument in a DAW, i have kontakt and even decent sampler for that, so that could be something they could activate with a subscription fee, but the DAW itself, LEAVE IT ALONE or i'm gone, back to FL Studio

One might be quite surprised to find great creators working off much lower versions (of any DAW). With that said, what is the worst scenario? One is to simply keep what I have. Another is to cut over. Reason is awesome! I used Cubase for 10 years and have no problem cutting back. Thanks, for the beat on this scenario. Cheers!

Just in case they don't get it together, I did just purchase Logic Pro. Although I know nothing about it. I've also been checking out Cubase. I can get it for real cheap right now. But I will still miss features that is convenient for me (Like musicloops, MixFXs, the splitter, making practically everything a preset or chain and etc). On top of that I would have to replace some of my PreSonus gear. Which 'm not ready for. Hopefully Fender/PreSonus figure this out real soon. I'm not looking forward to the alternatives, but there are decent options that are available.

Ableton is next for me just because of its versatility with macOS and DJ and MPC integrations and templates making creativity more easier to access.

    Hey IVAN,
And first thank you for your great channel, and your pedagogique way of transmitting knowledge about S1. Thank you for your amazing Toolbar that I use all the time.
I'm a full time producer, musician, and teacher. And I use S1 PRO for 4 years now, paying upgrades, but no 20$/month.
I think the Hybrid/subscription model is crap, and here is why.
First about S1pro itself, 4 years ago this daw saw shining as you said, but now, Other DAWS like CUBASE or LIVE just become better in term of functionalities. Plus de fact that there stock plugins are a little outdated, their instruments are old and not ergonomic (Mojito, Impact, MaiTai, Presence), and let's not talk about their loops that I think are crap.
Second, when I buy a PRO version of any DAW, i want to have the PRO of everything, Like in Cubase, you pay the PRO, you have very good quality stock plugins, beautiful set of instruments and high quality loops. This is the minimum I'm asking for a professional DAW.
Third, I bought the pro version full price (for other daws, you have special price for students and teachers that presonus doesn't offer), I think at that time is was 350€, then I bought all the upgrades for 150€, so at least i spent 650€ to presonus, plus the faderport 8 plus the Atom, but that's personal. And after spending 650€, waiting for something new, I don't even get their NEW SYNTH... what a shame.
Fourth, If I project myself in 10 years of work, and admitting I take the HYBRID PLUS, I would have spent 1800$ !!! for a DAW, some outdates plugins, Notion, and 3 new intruments in the future ?!? what a deal... Even worse, I buy the 400$ S1PRO, plus 20$/month for the PLUS, plus 150$ every year for the upgrades, and in 10 years I would have spent 4300$ !!!!
To compare, if I buy Cubase now, thanks to my teaching, but also you can afford CUBASE at that price if you have a S1PRO licence I can buy CUBASE PRO 13 for 250$, nothing to pay more, everything is in the DAW, no subscription crap, nothing. I have to pay every year update it is 100$ full price (now it's 70€) So I would pay for the next 10 years in between 950$ and 1250€. Almost 4 times less.
Finally, I like your video because you're very transparent concerning the offers, but please don't use the terme "opportunity cost". I think that the subsription model is a LEASH for customers. If you stop your hybridPLUS, you can't UPDATE you daw ?!? and you don't have access to all the plugins you "used" in your sessions ?!? And Presonus bought by FEnder is a good reason why I think it will disappear, but it's just a guess, let's see.
So to sum up, I need a DAW that fulfill my needs of professional usage, that consider me not just like a WALLET but like a profesionnal customer, and that I can work with with SERENITY for the next DECADE, without putting me in a moment of CHANGING my DAW because of a bunch or marketing guys that will explain to me that PRESONUS will be 8x better if they take more money from their USERS. I need some SERIOUS TOOL, and SERIOUS PARTNERSHIP.
This is the reason why I feel this is the moment for me to say GOODBYE to S1 and HELLO the CUBASE. Crossing fingers that STEINBERG. will not to the same mistake. And I don't mention all the hours I will need to master CUBASE like I master S1Pro.
PS : big big thank you to the developpers of S1, you're doing a great job.
PSS : long live your channel, I like your flow, your transparency, and your sensitivity. And all your super smart ideas for a good development for the future of S1, but unfortunalty, i don't think marketing people from Fender are that smart ;) Hope they will drawback (once again) and make a better offer.

Home recording is also a part of my living so comfort with the daw is important. I’m also comfy with Logic, I have cubase 10 but haven’t gotten comfy with it yet so not sure when/if I’ll upgrade that. Abso-tively no subscription for me personally. From what I’ve seen/heard, cubase is a current powerhouse with a seemingly happy customer base so I may dig into that more. Not gonna use pro tools again. So I’m just gonna get familiar with cubase as I see this as at least part of my future, continue using whatever version of s1 I have now for work, while logic remains as a faithful standby. 🎹♥️

If the plugins weren’t named what they actually are in studio one I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart outside of mojito. Especially being colorblind. A little color on the plugins is needed for people like me. There are no new features for owners. This daw is truly turning into a secondary daw. I don’t see Presonus actually doing good financially with a 7 version. They’ve already shown us what we have to look forward to.

You gave me kind of a wake up call with this video. I'm a long time Studio One user since version 3, and I love this DAW. Why? Well as a non professional "music maker" I've learned all the things I need to know about getting a seamless workflow. I have never delved into other DAWs to any extent that would give me fair comparison.
I don't owe Presonus my loyalty. I only owe it to myself. I have invested money in their product for many years, but most importantly:
I have invested a lot of time to utilize this product to the best of my ability.
Am I willing to invest more time to learn a new DAW, even if I don't have to start from scratch? Perhaps!
Physical gadgets are easy to compare, but software is considerably more difficult.
Is there a DAW out there that better serves my needs as an amateur musician? Very possible.
I "just" need to take the leap and explore it.
Thank you for your honest opinions about Studio One.

I am still on 4.6 and I`m not planning any Studio One upgrade anytime soon. Literally no need to upgrade imho, as I am using mostly (if not exclusively) 3rd party plugs. It is so sad to see a DAW that had such a fantastic curve in regards to the pretty much everything that it offered up to v 4.6, but after v 4.6, only cosmetics and nothing more. Adding the synth is a good move, but I think it is little too late, and from what I`ve heard, the way the synth sounds, nah, no reason to upgrade. Honestly, I am into migrating to Bitwig, or as some of the subs recommended below, moving to Cubase.

Ivan, the other thing is that the Studio One add-ons that Presonus has, are no longer available to anyone who isn't a Studio One+ subscriber. So, not only is the new vst not available, but neither are any other add-ons. And your example of what you get is ignoring the common case of the person who already has a pro license, and the version upgrade is $150, versus $180 for the same thing, but with TEMPORARY access for a year, to the plus extras. So I'm locked into subscription if I use any of those extras in my productions, unless I redo them after.

We spent a lot of time and money to have a decent studio one. And we are not rewarded, for some time now subscribers have had more advantage even though they are paying less for the moment. It's simple if I have less or no more equivalent when I pay so much for perpetual then I'm being cheated. I don't want new bills to add to other people's bills per month. No comments on anything else at the moment, except, if you are financially struggling and can only pay monthly but pay 12 months in a row, I think you should also be awarded with a perpetual licence at the end, in this hydbrid model. Otherwise it's just discrimination against poor people. You have to pay more overall when paying per month than if annually, generally speaking, so if you've been doing that for a long time you're actually giving Presonus more money than annual subscribers but getting less back.

Studio One is great!! and I don't really care about another stock VSTi, so many great third party instruments.
So when version 7 arrives it looks like it's going to be 179$ a year for upgrade and receiving updates (bug fixes)?

The workflow of studio one for mixing, audio editing & Dolby atmos is better then any other DAW I’ve used so far. For reference I own pro tools, logic, studio one, and Reaper.
Logic has the best stock instruments of any Daw by far, but probably one of the clumsiest/ugliest editing / mixing pages of all time.
Pro tools is only necessary for project sharing with the more ”seasoned” audio guys or when you have to work in a large studio environment.
