  • Bill's Ghostbusters Proton Pack has gone through several upgrades over the years and today he decided to add a robust, aluminum v-mount to the pack and nutrona wand. Plus, Bill explains why we haven't been posting as many videos here on UA-cam as we used to.
    Thank you for the support!

This has an Adam Savage One Day Build vibe and I am here for it. I love seeing the cool stuff you build in your major videos but we stick with you because you are good people so less production value and more personality is all right with me

Hi Bill and Britt! Its been awhile since I've been able to watch your content, I don't know if you read comments on old videos or not, but I feel like I speak for a lot of us when I say that we'll be happy with whatever kind of content you create. Fantastic builds and over the top videos are great, but we as fans and makers can and do learn just as much from content you may consider 'lesser' caliber. I guess I don't know the metrics of your videos, but I enjoy seeing content where you show off techniques, and show off your tools and things you've learned from years in the trade. Seeing videos of you learning a new technique or tool also, in my opinion makes the content a lot more relatable. Everyone is always learning so seeing someone we look up to doing the same makes you super relatable in a lot of ways, and that kind of genuinety is what I find super wholesome.
We appreciate all you do, and although we don't see the whole picture, know that we're here to support the two of you and your business, no matter what you decide to do moving forward. We're here for the people and the personalities, not the most over the top things you can do. Just like glue, less is more. If dialing it back a little means you are able to produce content more often without being stressed, well. I for one, will be here for it.
Thanks for being such an awesome couple to teach and share your talents with the world.

Honestly, even if you wanted to do more content of smaller builds/modifications like One day build type of stuff, I certainly love the rawness of these videos of you just working on stuff and talking about life, no big edits, no music, just turn on the camera and talk while working on stuff. It's really nice to play while working on my own stuff. You have a great personality and are super funny, so if these type of videos are something you guys considered, bring it on! :D

I tell people sometimes that you and Britt essentially built complete courses for both undergrad and grad level curriculum in cosplay. My personal theory was that did such an amazing job building a curriculum that there wasn't as much need to do new videos. Understanding vaguely how the algorithm works, I get that is a bit of a fantasy, but it is how I think of all the wonderful content you've produced. Happy to see your face again and look forward to whatever you do in the future.

Just FYI: what you have done with this channel is not just the grind you feel on the creation/management end. Your videos taught me to use Fusion360, and I am now (barely but getting better all the time!) able to design my own parts and components. Thank you so much for that! I had tried a few other methods over the years and was never able to wrap my head around it. Something in the way you taught it clicked!
As an educator (drama, stagecraft, and fabrication), I understand burnout and I know how my students’ feedback can sustain me during difficult times. We all value what you do, your skills, talent, and enthusiasm for making. Quality over quantity. Mental health first. Remember why you do this.

One of the things that my therapist said that has really helped and really stuck is. Setting things in stone is great. As long as we remember that stone wears away and can break. Also, remember how hard it can be to get something out of stone. And that removing it always changes it sonehow. And always breaks the stone.
I dont know if that helps, but yeah. Helped me be less rigid and remember to cut myself some slack. You two are amazing. we're excited to see what's in store. But take as long as it takes.

You’re not the only UA-camrs to suffer burnout and other issues. Hacksmith and Jairus of all come to mind.
I’m not big on therapy myself but if it’s helping you, then it’s helping you.
Fewer, shorter videos from you with fewer, farther apart long videos is not a problem. I still haven’t gone through your entire backlog and I doubt most viewers have. Anyone who wants more can peruse that. You have every right to be proud of what you’ve done so far, and I get that you don’t want future quality to suffer. You guys take care of you guys first. One thing you might want to do if that version starts getting stuck, is to add a stop so the wand can only go so far onto the "wedge". Without the stop, gravity and the slight bouncing from walking will try to force the two parts to wedge further and further together. That's probably what was happening with the old setup.

Great plan! The world of 3D printing is wide open but most people do not have the interest or wherewithal to learn to 3D model at a level where it is useful. However, buying a good 3D printer and making stuff you print is straight forward and allows you to concentrate on learning to become a great painter which is the real trick. There is YTer who has almost 1M subscribers and he builds IronMan Suits but does not know how to 3D model, every model he uses on his channel he gets from someone else. Offering 3D models for people to purchase is the way to go and you can of course offer to sell completed models raw or fully painted. I think there is a market for stuff that is not just the ‘same old props’ that everyone on Etsy is selling …

Dude.... you gotta do you, gotta take care of the old brain & soul. I can kinda relate: since TFA came out, I have been making Star Wars costumes (primarily pilots & Rebel troopers) for the Rebel Legion, and maybe a handful of 501st. Things slowed WAY down the past year or so, and admittedly I have lost the luster for most of it, and I have been thinking about what else I can make with my sewing machine. The idea of going back to work for someone else is so soul-stripping. So glad you & Britt have figured out another angle for your ventures! And I REALLY need to do your 3D modeling tutorial soon.
DragonCon!!! Yes, please bring your busting gear.... it will be the debut of ours! I have a HasLab pack, but I am also in the middle of building a converted Spirit pack for my gal's son with all the bells & whistles. Hoping I have time to do the same to a trap. Hope to see you there, and maybe we can bust some heads! In a spiritual sense of course.

I've been working on a similar idea but incorporating a longer male side and a female with "fold over" female to encapsulate the male. I found a wrench type tool at work (I want to use as the vhook male) that has a curved to slot that could be added protection by holding the top hook on the Spengler wand. Added security from dropping the wand. I also discovered that an added little "nubby" stop to prevent the male end from wedging all the way into the female vhook makes it easier to release also. I also think if a place was notched out on the back of the female to glue in a small small circular magnet at the wide end of the female, this would help holstering the wand as the magnet would click to steel male. Then the wearer would know, this is where it needs to be, now I can slide it in. I have a video saved I've been trying to show people but I can't get anyone to make the female part like you did.

Modding my Haslab pack is the first real project I've had in years and I'm loving it. I wish I had a space, with supplies, paint and tools, seems so nice. Bit cost prohibitive to get all that thought so one job at a time, slowly and jankily :P Good timing on this video though because a V-Hook upgrade is on the cards!

@@punishedprops yeah, a lot of people rave about some of the cheaper ones with bigger build plates but there is a lot oif fi filing to make them work well. The PRUSA you just stick in the card & it works every time! I built a complete mandalorian & Bo Katan outfits with it and teh Amban rifle, blaster, vibro blade, 2 westar 35 balsters & on & on. Wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Something to look at is how fidlock work with the way they snap to center to aid with blind mounts to aid in that. I use fidlock buckels on my 501st approved armor for solo kit up and it is a life saver when I need to do that.

    Tip for measuring holes:
    Measure diameter of one hole.
    Zero caliper.
Measure outside distances of holes w/prongs.
You now have hole center distance.

Totally understand swapping out the video style, I had to do similar with mine as shooting, editing and doing the actual work was getting draining. Especially as I'm a one man band! Much prefer the looser shooting style! Your health (and family) should always come first over the UA-cam algorithm. 😊 Incredibly tempted to do this v-hook style on my pack when I get around to finishing it!

Awesome mount :) maybe the addition of a small magnet to the mount would work to eliminate any rattling or unwanted movement of the hand piece? :)
