- Опубліковано 14 лис 2021
- We thought we were going to modify the Spirit Halloween Ecto Goggles, but then Bill got other ideas! This prop is crafted using tons of our skills; from metal working, to pattern making, to 3D printing, and more! We're ready to watch Ghostbusters: Afterlife, since Bill's costume is now complete! The ‘little did he know’ comment 😂 It’s always satisfying to watch you make things
I'm glad you liked that. I chuckled too! =D
"Who ya gonna call?"
"He-Man!"
This was awesome build and a ton of useful advanced techniques, really great work
Thank you so much!
Bill: I'm really good at putting on stickers.
Editor: Little did he know, it's on backwards.
Egon in Real Ghostbusters: Sometimes I think the universe waits for me to get cocky...
HA! Exactly.
So GOOD!
"Back off Man! I'm a scientist!"
For those without a scroll saw. You can cut circles in plastics with hole saw bits for a drill. Just run it backwards.
The post vid bloopers definitely give it the proper ghost busters vibe.
Haha, thanks! Great tip, too!
Amazing. Just wow. This whole video was a blast. These are the most screen accurate ecto goggles I’ve ever seen
That look of happiness when you finally wear it! That's what we are all going after :)
This build is so good, but beware, you're starting to follow Adam Savage's path of doing everything legit :D
I love the look you gave your wife when she trolled you at 27:10 about the print orientation. That looks of "I can't believe you called me out" was priceless!
Awesome video as always! When dealing with snaps on a fragile part, I like to bolt the snaps in with nylon bolts. That way I still have a mechanical connection that I know will function just as well without risking damage to the prop.
That's a really fantastic idea!
I’m new here, I don’t mod or make stuff but I’ve always admired craftsmanship like this and watched shows where people make things. It fascinates me and your attention to detail is just next level! Keep making these videos!!
The card scraping sound gives me goosebumps

As someone that has been a journey man machinist for over a decade, I'm actually impressed with your level of skill with the lathe.
Nice work!
Why thank you! I still have a lot to learn, but I'm eager to make more chips. =)
I love your shop projects and how-to videos, the right amount of technical, maker how-to...AND FUN while doing it, great inspiration and learning!!
So good. And the look on Bill's face at the end. Priceless.
"Let's play with the lathe!...We're using the knurling tool!" *turns power on. absolute gnarly trumpet jazz solo plays*
Love coming back to this video when I'm building my own. The buckles you built, I noticed are similar to the buckles on the Alice bag straps when I bought my frame
I love you work so much. You inspired me to start making my own props and my first one I made was your Hunters knife from d2, so far I have absolutely loved working with EVA foam and watching your videos has helped me so much. Keep up the amazing work!!!
That is wonderful! Happy crafting! =D
I saw the new movie today and absolutely loved it! What an amazing build you've done!
Great build video! Thanks for including the mistakes with breaking the drill bit and the blooper reel; good to know things don't always go perfect and you have to roll with the punches some builds.
Such a cool build with an awesome variety of skills from painting to sewing to machining !
Excellent 👌👍
Absolutely incredible what props become with a good weathering. I weathered my first cosplay prop the other week and just like here, it's so much better for it.
It really makes all the difference.
@@punishedprops One tiny suggestion- the straps should have a little slime too. It will be REALLY hard to get out of fabric.
@@markfergerson2145 You are absolutely right!
Really great build. lots of great techniques to learn.
Thanks Wayne!
Wowwww SO GOOD!!! Those knobs are absolutely gorgeous! And thanks for the super satisfying closeups of the knurling action 🤩
Thank you so much Sophy! =D
What a great project! So cool to see how it turned out!
Thank you!
GREAT JOBon the ECTO-goggles!
Your videos have been AWSOME to watch & learn from, Bill
Amazing work! Making the parts out of metal really adds to the realism.
Thanks! I agree! 😃
Awesome job dude! Very satisfying to see the finished product and to watch how giddy you got during the process. 😊😊😊
Thanks so much Elton! =D
These turned out fantastic. Amazing job!
So awesome Bill!!!
Thanks Brian! =D
AWESOME! So fun to watch, this build really makes me want a lathe…
Knurling IS extremely satisfying! Nice work!
It really is. Thanks!
❤INCREDIBLE!❤ LOVE IT!❤️🔥
I always loved the Quality and Details of your work
Thank you so much!
So very satisfying to see this come together!
Thanks!
One of my favorite episodes so far!!
thank u for all your amazing content u always find a way to incorporate fun into ur builds plus everyone of ur videos make me laugh and smile thank you so very much u don't know how good it makes me feel to see and hear your videos.
You're welcome! =)
wow!!! this is so great :)))) i love the attention to detail.. perfect :))
Great job! Very nice lathe work too. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
Well done Bill! Very nice video! 😀
Thank you for all your amazing videos over the years. Love your passion and humour. People like you guys who make these invaluable vids are what inspired me to set up my own mask making/general crafty creative business which I’m in the process of doing now. I’m still mostly a newbie crafter but I’ll try my best to give back to the maker community like you guys have done for many people. :)
You're welcome! Good luck on the business. We have a bunch of helpful business advice/resources for you right here: www.punishedprops.com/business-talk/
@@punishedprops oo thank you so much and for sending me the link I’ll give it a read. Will also make sure to check out your sale ;)
Impeccable work Bill
Thank you!
That was awesome.
Thank you!
Gorgeous!!
Thanks!
Okay...the knurling tool-needed one of these frikkin' yesterday!
The goggles are superb Bill, you just keep raising your game
Thank you so much!
very good as always
Great video guys!
Amazing Job 👏
Some awesome work on the lathe Bill! 👍👍
Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun.
Awesome build! I’d love to see something from Cowboy Bebop; I was thinking something like canister of red eye or maybe one of the weapons. Can’t wait for the next prop
That card scraper trick has already saved me hours of sanding 😭 It was a total game changer! I love you and Ben for that lesson ❤
Do you you use it with ABS or PLA?
That's fantastic!
@@stinkyham9050 I used it with PLA and it worked amazing as well :)
Good job man!!
Love me some good machining shots. Could watch that all day. Turned (ha) out fantastic.
Oh yeah I love machining videos too. Thanks!
Dude! That was fantastic.
I love how you screwed the knobs instead of gluing them. That way you can come back and make the knobs functional - turning and locking into specific positions.
Right?! There's something sooo satisfying about using real hardware.
I watched Ghostbusters 1 for the first time a month ago, and I loved it.
This is cool.
Welcome to the club!
Your lathe skills made this AMAZING!!! Well done!!
Thank you so much!
This was a really great build!
Masterful! And that's a damn fine GB patch you have on your workbench there. :-)
Thanks friend! I updated the new patch on the flight suit too. 😄
Wow, that looks cool! Also that double crosshatch knurl, I forget the name, is so satisfying!! It's so pretty and I had always wondered how people get that look!
Yes! I love my knurls.
great job these are gorgeous
Thank you!
The wee lathe put in a good days work. Sweet results! 👍 😃
That mini lathe was a real trooper!
This is so cool!
Thanks!
that costume is amazing!!!
Thank you!
Awesome job dude 👏
Thanks!
That drill bit situation was a good lesson in not letting your bits get too hot and that using oil is a must, otherwise they can anneal and things don't go well.
Finally I'm not the only one that uses scrapers! When working on PLA, I've found they save hours of sanding.
Yes! It's my new favorite tool for 3D prints.
Now you should build a real life ecto-1 and make a slimer. This build video was very cool and I love your Ghostbusters build series
Great work Bill. Good to see you getting your lathe chops. Nice ice pick BTW 😉. Next year you and Brit should come to maker camp in NY!
That sounds SUPER fun!
Wow, I would love to order one of these 👍
Fabulous work and entertaining video as always! It turned out amazing, especially those aluminum knobs!. So good. By the way, what kind of blade do you use for your scroll saw? Are there specific types of blades for specific materials? Thanks!
Been looking forward to this one ever since you gave me a sneak peek!
Hurray! =D
Looking at the reference photos from the screen used prop from GB1 the battery sticker you put on was the right way around. Using the reference from all 3 versions from the films all of them compared to the on/off/pull IR sticker it is the right
Crazy that this video has come out now.. I'm in the process of making a pair of my own.
That's great! I hope you have as much fun with your build as I had with mine.
Great video! Who knew knurling would be so satisfying to watch? (Answer: anyone who's ever owned a lathe). Mind if I ask what lathe you have/use? And how do you like it?
Cool.
After watching this video I'll have to look for mine I started building a couple years ago and got distracted
And with your build it answer to couple question problems I had so thanks
That's fantastic. Have fun with the build! =)
What an awesome build! And yes, the beard was very terrifying indeed🤣
The beard is difficult to tame.
Bill I'm pretty sure that your printer settings would have needed to be changed to force a specific mode. I seem to remember having similar issues when I printed from Photoshop. Great project! Thanks for sharing it, bloopers and all.
You're welcome! =)
Great video
Thank you!
im gonna HAVE to make some of those
dang, I wish I could make knobs.....that was sooooooo cooool !
hey bill, any chance youre gonna upload the 2D templates for the sintra parts, would be really handy to have that, your build has inspired me to build my own rather than buy a kit from etsy .
Excellent :) You found some slide buckles! Nice knurling.
Wait til next Halloween?? Do you even costume?? 😛(only teasing) If I had the gear, I'd be joining the local GB club (Circle City GBs, Indianapolis) at the premiere this week all kitted up. But alas, the busting gear is going to be a next year project. Trying to decide on 3D printed pack or convert the Spirit pack. Definitely getting the Hasbro Egon wand though.
Oh yeah, that wand looks incredible. I would have bought it if I didn't already have one.
Wow.... I like this one😂
Love the 'Cuttin' Circles With The Laser' song
Awe, thanks! =D
Just one thing I think that might have helped with the weathering is maybe some little silver scratches and paint chips on the main body to help sell that it's metal, other than that it looks great. Now I might be wrong that the body is supposed to be metal, been a long time since I've seen any of the Ghostbusters movies lol.
do you have a file for the goggle plates that you used? BTW PHENOMENAL WORK!!! love ur videos!!!!
Thee best!
I knew I recognized these! They were originally built off a pair of the classic AN/PVS-5 night vision goggles!
You got it!
38:10 - Nice Emperor’s New Groove reference! I see you 📦🔨
Cool
My dog looked up, very alert when you started scraping 🤣
Eeeeee!
Ghostbusters month, this should be awesome
Right?!
There's sticker paper with the metallic finish for inkjet too but I don't know how well it works. It's about the same price as a premade decal sheet off ebay.
Ooh that's good to know, thanks for sharing.
awesome! I am also having a Ghostbuster month :)
So exciting!
@@punishedprops yes we are having a great time... maybe one day we can have you, and or you and your wife on our show :) love your work!!!
They look so legit, like it was pulled right out the movies
The highest of compliments! Thank you.
YAY!!!!!
So for cosplay props, better using abs or pla+? Which is better?
What knobs did you use, the ones on the lenses? What are they called?
Good way to get snapped off drill bits etc out of non ferris metal like aluminium and silver etc is acid... Put some swimming pool acid with water and make a pickle, heat it up in a pyrex bowl on a hotplate, drop your part in and the drill bit or tap that you snapped off will rust away quickly..
Useful trick when you can't hide your crimes like you did
❤️ Your channel
I'm gonna keep that technique in my back pocket, thanks!
The original want vacuum formed ..they were an/pvs 5a night vision....a vf shell would be super junky ....good job on the build
