I have this same engine on my 1983 mitsubishi scorpion. It's done 243,000 k and still going strong. Good torque down low, but only 105 hp. With 5 people , this engine struggles.
Great old engine, they do struggle under load though. At least they sound good while they’re doing it! Does yours have a bit of blowby through the oil cap? Every 4G54 I’ve had does it
@@perpetualgrin5804 At least you got some good life out of her. Great cars those Sigmas! Any tips for me to keep a 4G54 on the road? Looking to keep mine going forever if I can 😅
I was wondering how you prime the oil pump? Do you have a video or procedure that you follow?? Also, your marks on the wall, is that counting the chain links? 12 links, 16 & 20 between timing marks?
I have a Mazda B 2600 that uses the same Mitsubishi 4g54. Can I buy new parts for the forklift engine and use them in the truck engine no problem? It's a 1988 so the later engine but except the block and exhaust setup are they all the same?
Bottom line is that the g54b/4g54 has a weak following. Their are a few making big power...and they dont share any info on how. They dont share ignition tables/ Fuel tables ..absolutely nothing. On the other hand if you check LS v8 forums or Honda forums thier is alot of people sharing their ignition table and fuel tables and detailed info on their build.
Never has been an engine people have tried to push much out of. I reckon people smack turbos on them and go for big numbers just to be a bit different, no other reason really and then they don’t want to give out the secrets. It’s an old 4 banger, leave it stock and go with something else if you want big power
Tighten the crankshaft from the middle to the edge to the left and right!
Love to watch you work☺️

Mine makes 400 and definitely doesn’t struggle
@@brendankendell607 I have a healthy one as well. EFI conversion n/a . Great engine
Best wishes from hillside Melbourne
Great video guys. Whereabouts do you operate?
I worked alot on my GH 2.6 Sigma 5 speed, took it around Oz in 2008, a feat I'm proud of😅.
That’s mint. Even 2008 was late for these cars. Still got the old girl?
@@mattholley3642 Let her go to the wreckers in 2012, picked up a mint ' 380 ', Mitsubishi's for me. Lol.
