Hammond with the killing blow?! That would’ve been interesting!! Edit: At first I thought that it would’ve been maybe Muldoon with a scared face having the shot raptor that jumped on him.

This is very interesting information on the production of the movie the original ending seemed dark and surprising but the ending we got was got was iconic and memorable and great video 🙂👍🦖
I love this ending; it is by far my favorite moment in all of Jurassic Park and undoubtedly the reason why I loved the T-Rex. I would like to see the original ending be filmed one day - maybe if a Made-for-TV Adaptation of the Novel gets made they can adapt that ending as a special bonus for the audience. But as for me, I'm glad that Spielberg decided to end it this way; because when you look at the movie, you get the sense that the Rex is stalking Grant and the Kids as they try to make it out of the park. But the animal just disappears from the movie after the fence-climbing scene - and then it was only heard; the last time it was seen was the Gallimimus Stampede. It makes more sense in the novel as to why it disappeared, while at the same time, it becomes all the more confounding. In the Novel, the Rex is on Grant and the Kids like it has a blood-feud. It's only when its tranquilized and passes out at the waterfall that the chase is completely given-up. The Rex was probably unconscious for hours during the climax of the book, but the end of the book established that enough time had passed that the animal had indeed woken up. You'd think it would've continued its northward trajectory and had some role to play in the final events of the novel. But instead, it just feels like the Rex is traded off for the Raptors at the end.
I remember hearing about this ending after watching "The Making of Jurassic Park" on the JP DVD, and further hearing about it years later after watching "Return to Jurassic Park" on the Blu-Ray, though both features mostly talked about the raptor getting stuck in the T-Rex skull. If memory serves, I believe I later read something about Hammond shooting the raptor dead on TVTropes. That said, I'm happy they changed the ending into what we have now, with the T-Rex saving the day and giving us that iconic pose, and Hammond agreeing with Grant that the park shouldn't be endorsed, but I gotta say, Hammond shooting the raptor in the original ending is pretty awesome too. Not as awesome as the T-Rex ending we have now, obviously, but still pretty cool in its own right.
Been here since fifty k and your content has been getting better and better every video. I hope to be along on your journey to one million subs. Thank you for the vids to help the jp community thrive!
I love the ending how we got it at the end, but I would also like this alternate ending but I would change Hammonds appearance to a hurt Robert Muldoon who surprisingly survived, and now saves the group from the raptor.
The ending to JP was perfect. What Spielberg said is... Well true! Rexy was and is the star of Jurassic Park and her making a return at the end just a beautiful way to wrap things up!
While walking through the halls at school today, one of my former chemistry teachers was playing Jurassic Park for his 7th hour class. I hears the raptor sounds and traced them to the room, and once I walked in, everybody recognized me as "The Jurassic Park nerd" and sort of cheered, and this very scene was playing and I was still blown away by how cool this movie was. Jurassic Park has changed my life, even so by being my own personal highlight.
Dang... That Raptor death scene with the T-Rex skull would have been AWESOME! And you have to admit, Hammond looks "Like a Boss" in that sketch holding the gun! However... I 100% agree that the ending with the living T-Rex was the perfect, and correct, decision to end the film with... Still; I would love to see a re-adaptation of the Raptor's death scene in a future installment!
Yes, he made the right decision. (At first I thought you were going to say MULDOON suddenly showed up again, and shot the raptor. But Hammond? No, I can't see that.)
Is it just me, or does Hammond in these storyboards look alot like that drug lord (Raphael I think was his name) from the Raptor comics series who tried to control the Raptors.
Damn that would have been so awesome! Even hearing you say '3:14' made my heart jump a little of joy! Seriously that would be such a badass ending! I also love the trex ending dough, meaby even more but it sounds so classic hearing it for the first time!
The ending for Jurassic Park couldn't be more perfect, but just remember, there's a goof in this scene, and that goof is that raptor Rexy kills disappears in one of the frames and then sudden appears again, Pause at 4:30.
i have seen the making of this which came with my copy of the movie which covered a bit of this but not all the storyboards you shown. WOW! . Would of been great to see a man verses raptors. :D
Klayton, thank you so much for all of your videos ! You allow every JP fan to extend their passion even almost 30 years after JP1. And this video is one of my favorite (because it is about JP1 haha). The official ending I think is the best, Spielberg had an amazingly good intuition to bring back the T-Rex (Rexy). What was originally planned is both better and worse in my opinion: better because of the scene where Alan would have been moving the crane and eventually kill one raptor with the T-Rex skull (badass and plausible kill, excellent symbolism) and worse because having Hammond kill the remaining raptor with a one shot is not plausible at all for me despite its huge symbolism (Hammond is an old man who at our knowledge never had anything to do with weapons, making this kind of shot feels totally unrealistic to me). Rexy suddenly entering the building also seems unrealistic but not so much I think :)
I think Spielberg made the right call. This proves that sometimes you just have to trust your gut. Not only did he gave us one of the best moments of the franchise but also one of the best of film history. Hats off to you Spielberg and to you as well Klayton.
Fully agree Spielberg's instincts here paid off big time. Changed for the better. And some may wonder what the Rex was doing there and why it would come in to take down the raptor, but the Rex does get in from the same side as the last raptor. Likely it was hunting that animal. :)
lol I was just watching a bunch of behind the scenes about this today. XD Although, not in as much depth as you went in to. I find this quite interesting, but I can't say for sure if I would have liked that ending more than the one we got, because we never saw it. Obviously, I love the ending the way it is, it's one of my favorite parts of the movie.
The original ending shows more development in Hammond no longer desiring to build his park now that he learned earlier that this was a mistake and took Ian’s criticisms to heart, so it would t have been that bad. The final version however was still cool and still very memorable to this day while still showing Hammond’s development in his response to Alan no longer wanting endorse his park. The final version just leaves a much bigger impact in my opinion.
I can see this ending working in a realistic view.....but I just can't see it for one simple thing: I can't see John Hammond shooting a Raptor. It'd be weird since he walks with a Cane and is elderly so to see him shoot a big shotgun doesn't make sense. And while it would be him saving his Grandchildren, he's shown the entire film being so loving to the creatures, even the much feared raptor, a creature Muldoon warned was too dangerous and even Grant holding a baby became immediately cautious despite his previous awe. But Hammond never stopped loving every creature. If Muldoon had survived I can be more forgiving it it was him, in a way his character was the representation of the hunter in man vs the new apex predator form the past, so if they had brought that to the end of the final act then I could bite, but that would deny us the now famous "Clever Girl" scene. Finally, that skull death for the female raptor, the one who's the smartest and most cunning of the three seems.......weird to think about. If anything, her dying last made the most sense and being the alpha of the group, it was fitting she with out fear or reason attacked the far larger and dangerous T-Rex. On a side note, I just want to add something to the sequel. I saw your video about how the original ending of Lost World didn't involve San Diego but instead had Tembo and Ludlow hunting the T-Rex and Ludlow's demise from it. I could see that working with another character, but now Ludlow. And here's why: Ludlow is shown to be a weasel, sneaky character who opperates from the background. He had no second thought about stealing InGen from his uncle in the deleted scene, he casually mocked Malcolm about his career ruined by his company, he knows jack shit about the wilderness and has to have Tembo make sure he dosn't screw it up and doesn't elicit any form of authority over the men when he's trying to encourage them to the village (Hell, they listened to Owen saying they should go and he was responsible for them being stranded). He's a suit out of his element on the island and for him to suddenly decide he's going to hunt down a T-Rex and use that to save his company is honestly such a 180 it'll give you whiplash. Him stupidly trying to catch the baby T-Rex in the cargo hold oblivious to any idea that it's bate for the father is far more fitting a death, even having him idiotically asking ti wait like the animals understand him. That works for what's been set up, not him growing a set and trying to take down Isla Sorna's Alpha Predator (I said it, Spino didn't face this T-Rex so I'm standing by this one).
Is it me or The concept art of Alan Grant similarly appears as Spielberg? Anyway, its a fun video :) and Yes The T-Rex is right where she needs to be! :) That Roar is the best thing ever in JP.
I love the ending we actually have, but it's cool how they sort of worked in this original ending for the Indoraptor's death in the final act of Fallen Kinngdom.
Heroic Hammond would definitely have been interesting, and quite the counterpoint to the John Hammond of the novel. Still, seeing Rexy come out of nowhere to snatch that raptor out if thin air at the last second was an amazing scene that is so iconic I shudder at the thought of it being changed.
I personally like the scene of T-Rex vs the two raptors in the first movie as it was so epic. It mirrors to the Jurassic World fight scene with the Blue, T-Rex vs I-Rex which was also a great epic scene as it reminds of the Godzilla monster fights
That ending makes much more sense given how Fallen Kingdom has established that raptors are infact vulnerable to bullets. I think there us some mention about small arms below a certain size being ineffective because of distributed nervous systems or something before Muldoon and Gennaro go out with the rocket launcher. Still the Rex ex machina is pretty fun and i wouldnt change it.
It's really hard to argue against what we got but there's just something about movie canon Hammond, this gentle and caring man who seems to genuinely have had good intentions, having to take matters into his hands in a way he likely never would have imagined that makes me wish we had gotten this alternate ending, from a character arc standpoint anyway.
Great video 😊 I am personally a fan the the ending we all know. First of all because it’s friking awesome! Second of all, because the original ending, I can see it work in a book, but it’s not that cinematic. I guess Spielberg was torn in the decision. But I think he went with a much better option. Plus - Hammond firing a gun? Never happening. Third of all, the t-Rex coming in, eating a raptor instead of the humans in front... my mom actually told me as a kid, the reason it ate the raptor and not the humans, is because it is its instinct to eat what it knows - the raptors. Because, as my mom said - it’s just an animal and it eats that which it is nature compels it to eat. Humans a not a preferred choice. It’s not that important but still it helps portray these dinosaurs as what they really are. Animals. They just do what they do - Alan Grant Again great video. Keep up the good work
I think both are fitting conclusions. One has the T-rex's heroic return, the other has a big moment with John having to physically put down one of his creations.
The original ending played well into the horror element of the Raptor kitchen sequence, and would have fit the tone of a slighter darker, bloodier version of the film. But the current ending is so iconic, so awe-inspiring and delivers such a great ending that it was perfect for becoming ingrained in the minds of children and adults everywhere.
I have heard about an alternate ending involving John Hammond shooting the Velociraptors, although I thought he would have shot both of them, first one killing a raptor that wasn’t expecting it like what the T-Rex did but the second one tries to pounce on him as vengeance for the other raptor but either John Hammond shoots it whist it’s mid pounce or his gun becomes jammed a little like Alan’s did just a few minutes before then he sacrifices himself so the others can leave
Kinda surprised the original ending came with John Hammond shooting the raptor, instead of Muldoon reappearing. The original ending has its charm with humans outsmarting the clever girls. Still awesome seeing the Rex kick butt. You do you Spielberg.
I think it would've been too unrealistic. I've worked with those types of machines before and I can tell you from personal experience, they are sloooooow. Although, I do like the idea of Hammond showing he's not just some rich guy, he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. Much smaller nod in that direction was when he met Alan for the first time.
It definitely would of been interesting to see John shoot his own dinosaur to save his grand kids and Alan and Elle. A complete contrast from his book character. But yay the ending that made it into the finale film was definitely the best.
To save peoples life he would i wouldnt really wanna see it because one i dont wanna see him shoot a dino and two he walks with a cane shooting a gun would seriously injure him and hes my favorite jp character i dont wanna see him hurt
I knew of the original planned ending for JP years ago when they did a making of or movie magic, some show about behind the scenes of movies. anyways what was the original planned ending for Fallen Kingdom? Could we find out in another video?
The ending to Jurassic Park the way it is now make the movie SUPER iconic, had it stayed the way it was we would be talking about why didn't they being Rexy back.
I think Spielberg made a good call from a movie-making standpoint. The original storyboard panels there seem a bit more graphic and overkill from the rest of the movie. I'd expect that kind of ending in the book version, but we've long established that the movie has a somewhat different theme and tone from the book. This more graphic ending wouldn't really fit with the violence levels of the rest of the movie, where the violence and kills were always cut away from before it got gory. I think the T-rex ending we got ties in better with the rest of the movie in that sense- the storyboard has humans suddenly overcoming the predator threat when they've been at their mercy the whole movie; the T-rex ending keeps in with how nature makes these animals unpredictable for better or for worse, and it was nothing more than a lucky break that Rexy's behavior as a hunter, an animal, happened to save them (in other words, it keeps the impression that these dinosaurs are embodiments of chaos but are still just animals in the end).
If I remember, Universal wanted Steven Spielberg to direct Jurassic Park first before they green-lit his other passion project, which would go on to win four more Oscars than Jurassic Park: Schindler's List. Spielberg was so busy filming Schindler's List in Kraków, Poland, that he did not attend John Williams' score recording sessions for Jurassic Park, and instead, listened to them on a cassette tape.
The ending we got is just so iconic, but even the other ending is great
I love the ending with t rex is iconic and great
I'd make one change to this alternate ending...
Muldoon fires the shot.
Nice, I also have a change of my own
Rexy makes the Shot
I love that idea but he would have to be very wounded and probably collapse to the floor due to his injuries
holy shit i was thinking the same thing.
"Not so clever girl"
That's what I thought he would say, but it wouldn't be as big a statement as Hammond making the shot himself.

Would've been cook to have that alternate ending imo but maybe a bit much for pg 13
That ending makes much more sense given how Fallen Kingdom has established that raptors are infact vulnerable to bullets. I think there us some mention about small arms below a certain size being ineffective because of distributed nervous systems or something before Muldoon and Gennaro go out with the rocket launcher. Still the Rex ex machina is pretty fun and i wouldnt change it.
well, that last scan is forever one of the most iconic scans not only in JP but the whole media we call movies as a whole.
I like the original ending because it shows Rexy being a hero and getting her familiar scars.
The other sounds cool, but the ending that Spielberg changed it too is truly iconic. Seeing Rexy in that surprise attack on the raptors is legendary.
Great video 😊
I am personally a fan the the ending we all know.
Animals. They just do what they do - Alan Grant
Again great video.
That ending still brings a huge childlike smile to face, time and endless repeated viewings has done nothing to dampen it for me.
Great video klay!
It definitely would of been interesting to see John shoot his own dinosaur to save his grand kids and Alan and Elle. A complete contrast from his book character. But yay the ending that made it into the finale film was definitely the best.
Wow that ending sounded freaken awesome I would have liked it just as much but that's a tough question which I would rather have seen
I always liked jp but damn your videos make me love the series lol
Be quiet... All of you... Klayton's uploaded a new video.
I heard once that Grant would sacrifice himself so the others could escape, is that rumor? Also Hammond is not violent, he wouldn't shoot a raptor.
To save peoples life he would i wouldnt really wanna see it because one i dont wanna see him shoot a dino and two he walks with a cane shooting a gun would seriously injure him and hes my favorite jp character i dont wanna see him hurt
I like the ending we got it is so cool and it makes the T rex look like a bad ass😁
Nice video as always
Klayton Floriti talk about Nash and Udesky's original death scenes in Jurassic Park
Where did you get the get the pictures of the Storyboards?
honestly both are great.
