    Man, I love those wild and crazy victory lanes. Guys dumpin' drinks on each other and sprayin' each other. I loved it when the car pulled into victory lane and they interviewed them there.

    I was there that day. The bad thing about Rockingham each year was when it was scheduled. February when it's still cold and possibly raining or November in the same weather.

      Right!! I remember absolutely freezing my balls off one year waiting for the race to start. Seemed like there were always cold, overcast skies during those late winter/early...and I mean early spring!

    Sucks so hard that this was TNN's first ever NASCAR Cup telecast and they couldn't even do a proper pre-race because of stupid rain.

    Nascar made a big mistake leaving this track.

    • @Holden308
      @Holden308 4 роки тому +4

      NASCAR has made a lot of mistakes that have alienated a lot of their long time fans. Taking races off long established tracks like Darlington and dropping others like Rockingham and North Wilksboro in favor of new cookie cutter tracks like Chicagoland, Kansas, Kentucky and Las Vegas certainly hasn't sat well with people. And other than the current BS system of having all the races in stages (what a complete joke that is), one other thing I think, though at least its being somewhat rectified in 2020, was having things like an Australian Holden, a foreign car even if Holden is a GM brand, running as Chevrolet's car of choice for the better part of the past decade also hasn't helped people who identified with the sport. That's changed now at least with Chevy running the Camaro and Ford running the Mustang from 2020, but American fans understandably wanted to see actual American cars.
      There is an old saying ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unfortunately NASCAR over the past 25 or so years have continually tried to fix what wasn't broke. And look at what the sport has now become as a result.

      @@gaffneyrailroading1982 I kinda like Kyle Busch talent wise but the guy is a giant douche with no ethics, I've seen him wreck a guy under caution. There's no GD excuse for that kind of behavior no matter what happened to him. I haven't watched NASCAR much since around 2010/2011

      A lot of these new pit rules were dumped by about halfway through the season, thankfully. Other than rightfully keeping the new pit lane speed limits, the lollipop boards on a pole and limiting how many people can go over the wall and when they can, mostly it went back to how it was with teams able to change tyres under yellow instead of the blue and orange sticker crap.
      NASCAR's new pit lane rules were overly complicated in response to Mike Ritch's death at Atlanta. If they had kept it simple and just enforced things like speed limits there probably wouldn't have been an issue.

    It's wild to think we used to watch races with no idea who was where outside of the top two or three cars. No idea of strategy, no intervals, nothing other than the occasional "he's two laps down".

    Boy did the Robert Yates crew on Davey Allison's car have a bad day. Too many over the wall in one stop, the chassis adjustment spanner being left hanging out of the car, dropping the jack before the rear tyre was on just past the races halfway point. They didn't have a good time of it.

    • @evanwilliams6406

      This was before they hired Larry McReynolds. It didn't take until Davey threatening to leave Yates until they hired Larry Mac away from KIng Racing(he started 1991 as Brett Bodine's crew chief.) Larry joined the team at the spring Atlanta race.
