Mercedes W210 Brake Light Switch Replacement

- If your brake lights are always on, have trouble shifting out of park, and have a ABS/BAS/ESP light on your mercedes w210 then a common solution is to replace the brake light switch which is known to fail. This may not always solve your problem but it is pretty easy to change and not that expensive. This is the 2nd one I had to change in my ownership with the last one only lasting 6 years. Full instructions on how to change the brake light switch in the video as well as some tips if your car is stuck in park. This is pretty easy to do yourself and only requires a Phillips screwdriver.
Instructions will be the same or similar for most models E320, E430, and E55 AMG, but there are 2 different brake light switches so make sure you get the right one.

Dang my cars brake switch went out and mine has the older pos-looking brake switch with the two big metal prongs for one of the connectors, its more expensive too 🙁. The switch for the facelift cars looks modern and fits in with the rest of the wiring down there, the older looks like someone just jammed a old part on there lol.

I have a Mercedes e220cdi w210 1999 facelift model. Before 2 weeks the thunder hit my car and I can’t not open the doors with the key. When the key put in ignation have a contact but no crank and no start. Went to mechanic he changed ecu of engine , automatic transmission ecu and shifter , ignation for key and also they are pared on diagnostic. Now the engine start good but inside on the dashboard all lights are on , speedometers not working . When I start drive the transmission is stuck only in one gear and no shift gears and the car go only until 3000rpm. Also the problem is battery is empty after few days standing a car and when I press break pedal dashboard and instrument panel light blink same like when is headlight on. Any advise or help please? Sorry for my long comment.

My e55 cannot shift out of park unless you jam something in the shift release hole, but there are no warning lights for ABS or ESP and the brake lights still work normally. Could this still be the problem?
Maybe. If your brake lights work properly then it’s most likely not the brake light switch and a problem with your shifter.

My switch has different plug but the same switch itself
Do you know if the W140 1999 S420 computer needs to be driven to reset/sync after the brake light switch has been replaced? I pulled the plunger in my original and the light went out almost immediately (battery unhooked because it's draining despite the brake lights not being lit). Got a new brake light switch and replaced it, but the BAS/ASR/ABS lights are still on. Any ideas?
I had same issue it’s the squib the light sensor on eBay costs about £28
