We finally visited South Island and we started our adventure or shall I say misadventures in Christchurch. We really didn’t plan our time well in Christchurch since we are only spending an afternoon here and it was our fault for not checking the tram timetable and the cathedral’s opening hours but the worst of all the mishaps in Christchurch is that arriving at our accommodation at 8:00PM only to find out it is occupied. It wasn’t a great start to our South Island Adventure but it wasn’t too bad at all since we told ourselves before taking this trip not to be affected by little inconvenience.
We were excited the next day because we were leaving Christchurch and headed to Tekapo. We took the scenic route via SH 77 to make a stop at Rakaia Gorge and South Island beauty started to show off. We definitely recommend taking this route when doing a South Island road trip.
