The peacock was actually one of Heras creations called Argus, who was a creature with a hundred eyes all over it's body. Because the creature was so faithful to it's creater, when they were slaughtered by Zeus Hera gave them a new life as a Peacock.
Expantion on your point because i love greek mythology: Hera created Argus to guard one of Zeus sneaky links who he turned into a cow to avoid responsibility, Zeus asked hermes to kill Argus so that he could release the cow lady and when her discovers her fav guard or whatever was dead he took his eyes and put them on the peacocks feathers, then took the peacock as her sacred animal
Number 6: his name in Greek mythology is actually heracles, Hercules is the Roman version. Number 7: hera actually hates heracles because he is the result of zues' many affairs. Number 8: Ironically heracles means "glory to hera".
Fun fact in addition to fun fact 1: the peacock is a sacred animal to Hera because Zeus had an affair with one of her priestesses, Io. When Hera found out, she was pissed. To protect Io, Zeus turned her into a cow which Hera found out and ordered her loyal servant, a giant with 100 eyes who's name I forgot, to watch over the cow tuned Io so Zeus couldn't get to her anymore. Zeus then send Hermes to get rid of said giant which he did which as a result pissed off Hera more. To honor her loyal servent, Hera put his eyes on the tail feathers of the peacock giving it the iconic "eye" pattern. In German, this pattern is also called "Pfaunaugen" which translates to "Peacock eyes" in English. It's actually quite funny how much of our names and such came from Greek mythology 😂
Fun fact: hercules is actually his roman name. His greek name is Heracles. Why they didnt call him that, i don't know. Also the iconic nemean lion hide that heracles is known for wearing, he doesn't wear it in the movie except in a brief scene. But if you look closely, the lion is actually scar from the lion king.
It's still such a weird choice having Hades be the villain here when he was one of the chillest gods and one of the only ones to directly help Heracles.
I just realised this movie not only laid the groundwork for my love of Greek mythology but also my taste in men - I love thin surfer/skateboarder guys and muscular beefy hunks. Mind blown
I felt they put in a lot of effort to make this movie accurate but for some reason only places that information into small lines and background information. The main plot they were like what myth we write out own story
i mean i think they really js aren’t part of greek mythology in general because Phobos would be Fear while Deimos would be Terror. also those two don’t shapeshift and they are children of Ares like you said. honestly i think they js chose 2 words that relates to like death and scary stuff and created these 2 characters
Fun fact: Technically the movie should be in their Roman personas as ‘Hercules’ is his Roman form and ‘Heracles’ is his Greek form. Heracles was named so due to Zeus’s many affairs. In order to make it up to Hera, he named Heracles..well..Heracles. Which translates to: “Glory to Hera”
i see people talking about him wearing Scar as a mask thing but wasn’t that a reference to the actual myth? Because in the 12 Labors of Heracles/Hercules myth he killed the Nemean Lion as one of his labors and then he would wear the nemean lion as a mask thing. It’s a great way to identity Heracles/Hercules
Hera in children's media: a good family woman who is tender and affectionate Hera in actuality: A relentless psychopath who kills everything Zeus fucked and the villain of most Greek myths.
it’s a reference to the actual myth, the 12 labors of Heracles (greek name that is actually what should’ve been used in the movie) one of his labors was to kill the Nemean Lion (greek monster) and after he killed him he wore the lion as a mask thing. it’s one of the things that makes Heracles easy to identify.
And the number 6 is: the UA-camr is saying the name wrong, heracles is the right way to say if you using his Greek name, but it’s Hercules if you using the Roman way too say it.
that’s actually also a reference to the actual myth, in the 12 Labors of Heracles/Hercules one of his labors was to kill the Nemean Lion and after he did he wore the nemean lion as a mask type thing. still a cool detail referencing 2 different things
So what your saying is they paid enough attention to know that a peacock is a sacred animal of Hera. But they didn't know that Hercules isn't the greek hero it's the roman one. HERACULES IS THE REAL ONE
I did my own research when I was watching Hercules today because I was dreadfully curious. I researched about the 18 years of the planets aligning. What pisses me off about this movie is that everything else is Greek, hades isn’t Pluto and he’s very clearly wearing Greek clothing, but they used Heracles’s Roman name.. (the Roman’s just kinda took Greek mythology and renamed everything, in Greek mythology Hercules is named Heracles)
For example phil wasn't the hero trainer chiro was and phil is a person who look and acts like pan,has the role if chiro and the name of phils..(dont remember the full name😅😅)
