PAULA
I’VE THOUGHT ABOUT HIM FOR SO LONG
THOSE MEMORIES ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR
I WAS SO YOUNG, HE WAS SO BIG AND STRONG
I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT HE’S RIGHT HERE!
I WAS SUCH AN INNOCENT GIRL WHEN WE FIRST MET
HE OPENED UP MY EYES, SHOWED ME A WHOLE NEW WORLD...
SO HOW COULD I EVER FORGET... THE FIRST PENIS I SAW!
PAULA/GROCERY CLERK/CYNTHIA
FIRST PENIS VERY FIRST PENIS FIRST PENIS
PAULA
VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW
PAULA/GROCERY CLERK/CYNTHIA
FIRST PENIS VERY FIRST PENIS PENIS/ FIRST PENIS
PAULA
VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW
AND OF ALL THE PENISES I’VE SEEN,
HIS HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT,
AND BY THAT WHAT I MEAN
IS IT REALLY MADE ME DROP MY JAW
‘‘CAUSE IT WAS
THE VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW.
A FEW TIMES BEFORE I’D FELT IT THROUGH HIS PANTS
AND JUST GENERALLY KINDA RUBBED IT.
BUT THAT NIGHT I DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE
I TOOK IT OUT AND HE REALLY SEEMED TO LOVE IT!
I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT
I DIDN’T HAVE THAT PART PLANNED
HE SAID “LET ME SHOW YOU SOME BASIC MOVES”
AND THEN HE TOOK MY HAND...
AND TAUGHT ME ALL ABOUT THE...
PAULA/GROCERY CLERK/CYNTHIA
FIRST PENIS VERY FIRST PENIS FIRST PENIS
PAULA
VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW
PAULA/GROCERY CLERK/CYNTHIA
FIRST PENIS VERY FIRST PENIS PENIS
PAULA
FIRST PENIS VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW
NOT THE DIRTIEST -- ALSO NOT THE CLEANEST
IN TERMS OF PENIS I REALLY WAS THE GREENEST
I WAS IN TOTAL AWE OF
THE VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW
(spoken) He’s coming, bail on the turntable!
I WAS SO EAGER I COULDN’T HIDE MY KEENNESS
EVERYTHING ABOUT IT SEEMED QUITE INGENIOUS
I COULDN’T FIND A SINGLE FLAW
IN THE
FIRST PENIS/ VERY FIRST PENIS
VERY FIRST PENIS I SAW!
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is such a dangerous show to be a fan of, within three days I'll find myself terrorizing the local elderly population by absent-mindedly singing this on the bus or something
The elderly all had a very first penis, too.
fair point ha!
If anyone hears me singing “I gave you a UTI” I have no idea how I’m going to explain it.
Good to be living in a non-English speaking country that usually doesn't give a crap about English lyrics lol
Perks of living in a Spanish speaking country
Y'all are sleeping on the older woman backup dancer. She gave me life.
Fun Fact: The dancer is Gwen Hillier. She is an accomplish performer who has appeared on Broadway, National Tours, Regional Theater, and TV. She is the mother of Sarah Lowe who was one of the show’s assistant choreographers. Also, Gwen’s mother-in-law was Ruby Keeler, star of classic movie musicals such as the original 42nd Street.
@@robertdigiovanni1941 actual fun fact
Agreed!
I did, then I saw your comment and rewatched it two more times. She's amazing!
Nope I noticed! Also Paula has some great turns while I once almost smashed into my half - glass cupboard face first - after getting implants a week before - because I was a bit too fast .On a hardwood floor , at 11 pm, while singing. 🤦♂️
But you gottta do what you have to do .🤷♂️
I love how everything in the store is Jeff
Sebi The Hunter just monika uh..i mean ..just jeff now
And cardboard😂💀
Holy shit
Suggestive vegetables 50% off
OMG I didn't even notice!!
“it really made me drop my jaw” is peak comedy
oh I JUST REALISED WHAT THAT MEANS
ooooooh!
Damn, they really nailed the ABBA-sound with this one
and the moves
I'm such a fan of the costume design everytime. They managed to choose something paula would wear on a normal day basis and managed to symbolise the "innocent girl she once was" with the pigtails and pink clothing, in contrast to the dark blue outfits of the other two dancers. It's very subtle but the message will reach you anyway. And once you've seen it it makes perfect sense.
Yes! I came to the comments to say this very thing. Glad other people saw it, too. 😁
And also how the veggie she's holding is much bigger than what the other dancers are holding males me think that Paula def thought that his was the biggest. But other ladies are holding "average" sizes lol
I appreciate that the dance break finishes with her shouting "He's coming!"
Had to be intentional
why did i not notice this before lmao
This is her kingdom come
Bail on the turntable!!
i really loved the parallels to rebecca running into josh for the first time in the grocery store. the girl with the afro versus the guy with the afro. even the name itself--- josh chan versus jeff channington...im going to be afraid to go to grocery stores now cause i'm gonna be looking for my first love in the freezer aisle....except my first love is married and there is no chance he would ever say 'i regret breaking up with you and i think about it all the time.'
Donna did say "He was my Josh Chan."
holy fuck i've just realised about the the parallel with the guy with the afro. this show is genius!
CHANnington! Omg 😆
OMG I just realized the initials are "J.C.".
if mamma mia ever gets revived on stage, donna lynne champlin better damn well be playing donna
and yes, the coincidence of that just occurred to me too
oh she'd be fabulous!
I knew this musical number sounds similar to something I heard before
She’d be such a great Donna 😅
Suggestive Vegetables 50% Off. 😂 The details in this video is so great.
HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THAT???
There are no veggies there is only *JEFF*. sorry I didn't mean to make it sound wired
"Jeff! Take it home!" That still cracks me up
I NEVER NOTICED THIS, IT'S GENIUS
Where? I can't spot it
Paula is such an icon
“He’s coming, bail on the turntable!” It’s the little inserts like that that really put this show above and beyond. The number is already hilarious then Donna said that and I cackled
I keep picturing the backup singers putting this performance on their résumés.
If this doesn't win an Emmy, they should just stop giving out awards.
For me, this is the best song in the series. It doesn’t get enough credit. The singing alone was amazing, but the choreography should have won an Emmy. It was also one of the funniest songs as well, not to mention extremely catchy. Ten out of ten. Brilliant. I can’t believe this song wasn’t done on the live show at Radio City.
YES!!!! and it's so clever too, the melody and Paula's outfit and hair make her seem innocent and set her storyline in that episode very well
I think my biggest laugh of the entire series was this song back when it aired. I had NO idea where it was headed. I love it.
Most compelling evidence since "Everything I've Done For You (That You Didn't Ask For)" that Donna should get more songs.
Totally agree, but that's "Maybe This Dream" erasure and I won't stand for it
Don't forget Maybe This Dream. That was tremendous.
"Face your fears and run with scissors, cuz you can fly." (Adam Smith - The wealth of the Nations)
“His status is preferred” too
I've felt like one of the main reasons they cast Donna Lynne Champlin as Paula was because they needed someone with some seriously high level musical chops to flex on some traditional musical numbers. Not that the other cast members can't sing (pretty much everyone is at least a good singer, some are excellent like Santino), but Donna is the one they bring out to just flex the fuck out of her sheer vocal performance abilities.
ABBA Rachel Bloom? Stop. My heart can’t take it.
Yes! I appreciate it was ABBA and not Mamma Mia! references 👏👏
Is this a parody of MAMMA MIA?! Lol! ❤
GIVE DONNA LYNNE CHAMPLIN AN EMMY ALREADY!
I could imagine the censors watching this
This is historic
Peter Alcock I watched this episode from Malaysia, a relatively conservative country, and the song was basically 30 seconds long. Thank goodness for UA-cam.
@@phoebel2270 the whole show would be full of 10 min long episodes in that case
Considering it was on a broadcast station.....it really is amazing they let them get away with what they did. The US doesnt really have a watershed like the UK does, and I dont remember what timeslot it had, but considering one side of the merger that made 'The CW' was UPN (the other being the WB) I can see how they might had gotten some room to be edgy if it was one of the later slots. Plus The CWs demo was 18-35yo so.....that might have helped too. But still, usually broadcast networks have tighter restrictions....
Donna's moves are EVERYTHING. Can't really gush about it with everyone lol but the comedy here is so on point.
TwiFascinations she's great! I still can't get over her last solo in which she "peed, just a little" and giggled 😂
I’ve already watched this about 10,000 times. I’ve replaced all my Spotify playlists with just this song. Donna’s facial expressions are murdering me, oh my god.
Melissa thank God it's not just me
I was at the Vulture fest where they were premiered this, watching Donna Lynne react to watching it for the first time was precious.
I will make sure this song is played at my funeral LMAO
This song is a banger.
Denny C. Le It’s been stuck in my head for days. 😂 It’s so catchy.
Pun intended?
😏
Watch the episode the first time around and get blown away by Donna Lynne Champlin's awesome singing.
Watch the music clip the second time around and be amazed that the set designer went to the trouble of making three lanes of a supermarket 'Jeff' themed just for the sake of a background joke.
Love this show so much!
OH MY GOD I JUST NOTICED THAT
The whole thing was on spot! The sales clerks, the moves, the suggestive veggies and all the groceries with Jeff's name on them. Great!!
OMG.
Also, let's not forget about 1:46 and the "suggestive vegetbles" on sale.
I just recommended the show to my sister in law, a therapist... Now I'm worried this will be the first thing she sees of it and will never stop judging me for it.
As a therapist who watched the show, the judgement will be NOTHING but positive - you have to have a good sense of humor about sex if you’re gonna spend a bunch of time talking to people about very private things. Like sex 😂
I mean if she did and? U realize ppl who go into that field go for their own answers in beginning right. Not uncommon w any field. Luckily most get their demons fixed. Just there a few a who. Lawd help you if you know them _outside_ being a therapist. My mom dated one and I knew another dude..but not put down kn therapists I'm a HUGE advocate for them. I always say no shame, everyone needs them at some point in their life, and every therapist isn't gonna be a fit for everyone but communicate ur style since they could maybe adjust (some personalities but some is their default styles like w my therapist I love I thought was too soft approach and I'm like I can't do this I bulldoze over you and if I I have someone push back/challenge and call me on the ish or I won't get nothing from therapy.. She like lol most Pol like the soft approach but i do group therapy for addicts so I can be way firmer so all u had to do say something)
Donna deserves an emmy
Give it up for Donna's best dance moves yet.
She’s probably the best dancer of the main cast and I love that
“Not the dirtiest, also not the cleanest” 😂😂🍆🍆
That’s my favorite line too!
I had no idea so many things could rhyme with "penis" until I saw this song.
Tennagers probably. HAHHAHA
Love the use of that eggplant as a microphone: very emoji-relevant.
The amount of detail in this song is ridiculous.
I love the mix of the innocent pigtails and ABBA melody with the really graphic lyrics 😂😂😂
I love everything about this. My favourite part tho is that all the products on the shelves are facades and not actual bottles, bags, or boxes LOL.
I'm so glad that Paula got a "fun" song... This has been stuck in my head for 4 days and I get funny looks from strangers when I'm singing it to myself. This just might be my favorite Crazy Ex Girlfriend song.. well, maybe "Dream Ghost"... how about Gregs "I Could if I wanted to"... no, no.. "Feeling Kinda Naughty"... oh dammit... I almost forgot "Ping-Pong Girl"....theres about 30 songs in my top ten list!!! I absolutely adore this show and wish more people would just give it a chance. Its relate-able, its not afraid to tackle tough subjects and serve up some dark subject matter with a smile! (and a song)!
I also really liked the song that Rebecca's mom sang in that holiday episode in the first season. I forgot what it was called though....
This was the first Crazy Ex Girlfriend song I ever heard, from the first episode I'd ever seen. As soon as I found a place to watch it I binged the series from the start and I've been a dedicated fan ever since.
OMG THE BEST ABBA HOMAGE> EVER>>>>>>>
OH YES MAMMA MIA!!
Ebonyfire finally, been searching for this comment
Anyone here has this song stuck in their head for two weeks now because it was uploaded on another channel? Lol
Omg, these songs really hold up. It was such a great show. True gratitude to the CW for completing Crazy Ex girlfriend and Jane the Virgin
It's genuinely such a blessing that both shows got to finish considering they didn't have the best ratings!!
"HE'S COMING, BAIL ON THE TURNTABLE"
It pains me to see this wonder has less than a million view. This show has some of the most hilarious music segments ever seen on TV.
The older woman backup singing is KILLING it, I can't stop watching her
And the award for the "most awkward video to watch if your name is Jeff" goes to....
😂
The bench depth on this show was incredible. So many brilliant actor-singers who could steal a scene, then sell a song. Nobody was better than Donna Lynne Champlin. And it really says something for Rachel Bloom, with her amazing talent, that she was so generous about giving her co-stars their time in the spotlight. Even though it totally undercuts the final reveal that all of this is happening in Rebecca's head, when she's not anywhere around when this song (and so many others) gets sung. I mean, no way, man. Musicals are MAGIC. Don't explain it. Just go with it. Seriously, my only quibble relating to the entire series. It was not just in Rebecca's head. This really happened. But in a magical dimension of music.
This is amazing for all the previously stated reasons, but also it’s a master class in how to mix! Donna Lynne has such amazing control over her voice and she can always seamlessly meld it to the genre at hand.
This show cracks me up. I'm not a big fan of musical shows, but this is something special.
Never thought Paula could get a song that supassed bot Face Your Fears and After Everything but this is a knockout!!!
I love that the backup dancers are so different (one is very tall, one is an old woman), and since the beginning this song made me think so much of Abba and when they did the iconic Abba face thing I was like omg, that's so cool
Donna Lynne's enthusiasm is contagious and I love it.
The older backup dancer is my spirit animal.
It's genuinely amazing to me how they got so much of this show past the FCC.
This is the kind of song that gets stuck in my head & I want to sing out loud... damn you Rachel. I love this show!! :D
Okay, but I work at a grocery store, and whenever I'm stocking zuchinni I have to fight the urge to sing this outloud. XD
I've had this song stuck in my head and I can't exactly sing it at work 😂😂😂😂
You should do that.
I sincerely think is the funniest, most polished song of the whole series. Donna Lynne Champlin killed that performance!
That really awkward moment when you sing this song out loud in public...
That awkward moment when you stop caring because of seven months of quarantine, mixed with how stupid awesome the song actually is...
I know Cegf is only supposed to be 4 seasons - but can we get like a prequel spinoff of Paula?
How did Donna Lynne Champlin never get recognized by any of the major TV awards at any point during this show's run? The CW gets shut out of the Emmys (much like UPN and the WB did) but still....
I'm really loving the "Jeff! Take It Home!" sign
I love the face of the grocery lady when Paula tells her he was her first everything hahha.
This song WILL be played at my funeral!
I’ve watched this 3 times in a row. I loved it so muchhhh! especially the backup dancer to the right. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She was greatttt. All three girls were! The song was so good too. So up beat/feel-good. It’s my favorite out of all of the songs. ❤️❤️❤️
"Suggestive Vegetables" yeah they sure were
the "suggestive vegetables 50% sign" ALWAYS gets me
Seriously how did this show not get that much attention?
Everything Donna Lynne Champlin does is perfection and she always gives 1000% - we know this; her facial expressions are incomparable throughout, but still, her face during 2:35 to 2:37 especially just gives me the giggles every time.
Paula songs are always so steller. Also Donna lynn always kills it give her Emmy please
Ooh Mama Mia!, this show is so relatable! I fell in love with a penis a few months ago but its owner was a dick. Anyway, life goes on. On a sidenote, I love Outlander too
Too often the case. Don't give up the search.
Thanks. I'll try not to
ugh i feel your pain. i fell in love with a penis recently and then found out it had genital warts...life is cruel.
Can’t listen to Abba now without hearing this
Donna Lynne just does such an awesome job in this show.
dude just realized the cool details of the set itself. even though it’s not showing in real time or a stage musical on the stage, it has those elements of a stage musical. aside from the dancing and all the singing, the different products like the detergents and cereal boxes turn into 2d versions with the name jeff and are cardboard versions. and i think that is how it would be like for props on a stage musical and those products turn into that the minute she starts singing
“He’s coming, bail on the turntable” gets me every single time. It’s such a great simple joke, but it’s so effective and charming.
Wow I just noticed that all the products are named Jeff! That's such a great detail
The old lady cracks me up!
I can't find words to describe how awesome this song is!
Every song with Paula is amazing
Donna Lynne Champlin is so talented!
the set design....how long it must have taken to set that all up.... THAT puts me in total awe
I feel so bad for the people who don't watch this show. Absolutely brilliant
Yessssss Paula, give me that mamma Mia realness
I love how relatable + catchy this is! Thank you so much for an incredible season so far, the cast and writers continue to outdo themselves and raise the bar even higher for other television shows!
Mamma Mia(2008) when your parents walk in:
Rachel Bloom is a genius lol.
I’m a lesbian but this is honestly one of my favorite songs from the series
This is a dangerous song to have stuck in your head
I can't help laughing at that xD
He’s coming bail on the turntable! 😂 kills me every time
She's having so much fun with this isn't she
The Mamma Mia vibes are strong here. I love it!
“JEFF! Take it Home!” lol I LOVE this SERIES! It’s GENIUS! ❤
This show is full of inside jokes. And I think that's why these songs are meaningful for us even if they aren't. Lol.
Sorry to hear about Adam Schlesinger~ Sadness~
I love that everything in the store is suddenly “Jeff!” Brand. I appreciate that level of dedication to comedy.
I still cant believe CW let them do this
"Suggestive Vegetables 50% off" 🤣🤣🤣
Has Paula been hanging out with Rebecca so much that she has a musical mind moment??
Disgustingly underrated
I love how the grocery clerk had the same hair as Marty (I think was his name!) who also met Rebecca back in season 1
This is one of the best music video ever.
I was a video call with my friend and this was playing in the background and I scarred her for life😂😂
This one never gets old.
Excellent! I had been waiting to hear this one! Also major props on the cutouts of the food being everywhere! It was hilarious to notice! XD
I love the side ponytails, they accentuate her innocence
One day someone in my family will figure out that the song I sing about the New Zealand covid response (the lyrics change depending on my opinion of Jacinda’s latest actions) is to the tune of this song. I was listening to it right before we got declared covid-free the first time.
I've woken up with this song stuck in my head for the last THREE DAYS
