    Ms.Tara if I might
I had a stroke from a fall on concrete steps in 2016. I was in the hospital for a month because of my blood work. Unfortunately at the time I did not have insurance to help me but I researched deeply and worked out daily and I wish I had had your channel when I was in the middle of research. Great work. I love the clarity of your explanations.

It would be very helpful to have a video tailored for EDS sufferers too, because we tend to have this problem frequently, and our needs and prevention strategies are not the same as stroke patients. It would be especially helpful to talk about the complications for manual wheelchair users who have no caregiver to assist with wheeling or transferring. I’m such a mess right now. 😭

I thank you for this video as I have shoulder subluxation!! You mention preventing shoulder subluxation I woke up in a rehab hospital after being in ICU for almost 2 weeks after
Hemorrhagic stroke. A few therapists told me I had a subluxed shoulder thedoctor mNEVER talked to me about it and I was not told to do anything for it and it just got worse. I understand that the only way to treat it is to do occupational therapy! To streengthen the muscles and But it is very painful!! which makes the therapy very difficult!! It just keeps popping in and out during the day especially during OT and PT as I use my Walker! I don’t use a sling because I want to be able to use my arm as much as possible. my Ortho Dr. explained that it is mostly due to axillary nerve dysfunction he said at my most recent appointment “ good news is that your nerve function is getting better, the bad news is that it is very painful!! Do you know of any tips that may help the pain?

    • @rehabhqofficial

Generally speaking, the longer a shoulder remains subluxed, the harder it might be to strengthen the muscles to "pull it back into position". But the last 20 years has taught me is that nothing is impossible if you have the will and the discipline to improve. :)

Thank you for this video. Most of the time my shoulder stays in now. Occasionally I can see a very slight dip. It was really bad and in fact my NHS physio said I’d probably never get rid of it. I used a saebostim go which is wearable estim. I worked up to 4 hours a day of use. Before this I didn’t have any real movement due to the pain. From there I was able to start doing other exercises including your videos and I can now lift my arm above my head.

Hello! I’m 19 and have a shoulder subluxation on my right arm. I also have misalignment in my rib cage. I’ve been going to a chiropractor but I feel like it’s not really doing much, I know it’s not curable but I still hear popping all the time, thankfully doesn’t hurt. I asked him if my sleeping posture was important and he said not to worry too much. But I sleep on my side, I also do have epilepsy so sometimes I wonder if that caused it. It feels so frustrating because I’m going to the gym right now, and I’ve been lifting weights and it has definitely helped a little, it’s helped with balance and strengthening my right side of my body. But I just want to make sure I’m doing everything right. My chiropractor said basically all of my right side of my body is a little misaligned and has something to do with my nerves in my spine. He said my right leg was a bit shorter and I have always noticed I rely a lot on my left leg. Does sleep posture matter? I feel so lost at times haha

I’ve had problems with the shoulder for over a year and half and it’s frustrating that doctors just wait and wait trying all kinds of different things. I’m finally ordered an MRI. Hello and thank you. Instead of an arm sling would a shoulder type holster be useful? The one I had reminded me of my son's football shoulder pads. The arm band was difficult because it didn't open and close around the arm like a blood pressure cuff but was a cylinder sleeve which made it difficultult to put on over longer sleeve clothing. Yiur thoughts on this please

I had a dislocation in 2013 and after my surgery (my labrum cartilage tissue was damaged and repaired during surgery) I went for physio. The physio is aimed at scapular position and posture (this is what she means with the shoulder cup position) and also strengthing your scapular and upper back muscles as well as the external rotator cuff strengthing. Therefore, maybe go for an assessment at a physio before heavily progressing with weights?

Should i start these stretches right away? i believe i had a sublaxtion on my left shoulder i was sparing at a boxing gym and threw a sloppy hook away from my body and if dislocated or partially for a few seconds then went back in wasn't painful but the next day it was pretty sore now im on day 2 and can raise my arm to to 90 degrees in front of my body with very little discomfort I've been icing it and i think that has helped a lot because with in ine day it has gotten much better still tender though

Doc Tobias. You are perfectly right I had the subluxation when I had the stroke 2018 but X-ray shows that it has gone back I cannot lift the lift arm. I get no pain the length of the arm is good but what I get it’s very cold and when it cold my arm draws upwards. I get thigh mess in my fingers. U got so much knowledge. Thank u very much. 🌸🧡🌸 Thank you very much Dr. Tara, everybody warns about sublux, but nobody tells you how to get the inevitable one finger lux back in place. It seems to be all about the muscles around it to be softened through stretch and building them up again to hold the structure. Many thanks!!! 🌸💖🌸 By the way you look great and relaxed from your forced holiday!

I feel like i have a subluxation but it doesnt stay there. I can pop my shoulder in and out with no pain. The worst pain is when i am batting in baseball and swing really hard. I feel the should pop out and i guess with following through on the swing while its out is what causes the most pain. It hurts so bad i cant move the arm up past a certain point for 20 minutes then its really sore for the next 2 days then im back to "normal" please help me out with this its getting frustrating that i cant swing a bat at full strength out of fear

@@prettylittlething4145 i have searched for forever trying to figure this out 😅 the only thing i have found was strengthening the muscles in the shoulder. It has helped a tiny bit, but i can still do it as well as swinging a bat hard makes it pop out as well.
If you ever find anything please keep me in mind, and i will do the same 😅After it pops hard it hurts for a few days after, i just dont want it to hurt anymore!

what are your thoughts on using a mcdavid shoulder brace to prevent shoulder subluxation?

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  4 роки тому +2

Thanks for watching and for commenting! The Mcdavid brace is definitely more for an orthopaedic injury. Most of the time (due to the slack in the fascia/skin) the arm bone will still sublux. Even the braces made for hemiplegia have this issue.

I'm 70 percent recovered from stroke but when walking, My one side arm tends to over actively swing right from the shoulder. It looks shorter too. This happens only when I walk, but comparison in standing position. Its perfectly normal. Can you help me out here, please. Thankyou so much!

Thank you for watching and for sharing! This is a very common problem. Generally speaking, if the arm "feels shorter" it is most likely spasticity. This video might help to understand what is causing this: ua-cam.com/video/6H5Q_XcYZrM/v-deo.html

How common is it to have shoulder subluxation in both shoulders? I am experiencing pain in both shoulders but only one seems like it slips out of the socket slightly then goes back in but is very painful. I have injured them quite a few times while snowboarding. I have also been active in other sports such as baseball, waterskiing, swimming. I am 45 yrs old.
