Hi Mr. Benisek, I am currently 22 years old and will be graduating with a bachelor’s in December. I was planning on joining my local sheriff’s office here in Jacksonville, FL. I’ve been told to look into federal agencies for a safer and better paying job. The thing is I just don’t even know where to begin.

Apply to CBP they accept applications every first of every month you need to create a usajobs.gov account

1st step is research. Looking into CBP and USMS.

@@JM-dk4ec Why do you recommend CBP?

@@ejhite99 Because they always taking people at the entry level, is the easiest federal law enforcement agency to get into. And you can always switch to another federal agency later and your retirement carries over

@@JM-dk4ec Hmm okay, that’s good to know. Thank you. I wouldn’t say I have much of an interest in CBP

How does law enforcement view a dismissed/nolle prosequi case? Police work is definitely in my blood and has been for some time. I've known for while this is what I want to do, but life circumstances got in the way and I had to put it off. However, I am ready now and have been applying to local law enforcement agencies (4 so far). All showed initial interest but have since turned me down. So needless to say I'm feeling a little down about that but going to keep pushing. Anyway, it seems like the previous case which was dismissed and expunged is preventing me from moving forward. Any advice?

Clerk of court will have record. Usually it’s online and it’s completely public. Look into expunging it completely, and always be up front about it. Not disclosing it is an immediate DQ and viewed as an integrity issue. If it’s Domestic violence related you have 0 chance of getting hired. Good luck
If it’s expunged they shouldn’t even be able to see it unless it’s the same agency that charged you. Look in to a FOIA request to obtain that information if you still aren’t having luck.
