We'll go over the type of line we use, how to attach the crab bait, storing the handlines and using the handline to catch some Blue Crabs. I live in Raleigh so hopefully when I retire in a few years I will get closer to the beach so I can crab. I could live on crab alone and Old Bay

Very instructive.. thank you... I would take the old wire hangers from the laundry ( my lawyer step dads shirts) & unwind them & remake them into crab bait clips... EZ...just need the hangers , pliers & snips... you can figure it out if ya haven't already... unwind the wire shirt hanger.. till you have a straight 3-4 feet?? then snip it in 1/2 & make a "paper clip" shape & a curl/hook at the end ... works great... made a good bit of side cash 30+ years ago before we even knew what recycling was!!

I've also caught blue crabs with a cast net and they get tangled lol, but handlines work great, we catch a lot of crab with them. Thanks again for Watching

And you’re right about crabs here in Maryland. They are expensive!
Why so expensive? We pay about $1 a crab here on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. $100 a dozen for Blue Crab is ridiculous 🦀
Right I can't believe the prices but I took the grandkids for an ice cream cone, 4 cones for $25.00 lol. When I was a kid it would have been less than a dollar. I guess the crabs are still a better deal. Thanks for Watching

Sadly, I think the bounty just isn’t what it used to be, and so the price is high.
A lot of the live blue crabs sold in the supermarkets here are shipped up from Mississippi. If you want the jumbo Marylands you gotta pay. 😬

I've caught beef neck bones on sale in the past and used that for bait. Worked pretty good.
Crabbing trip sounds fun.
It would be, we always took vacations that revolved around some type of fishing or gold prospecting but no tourist traps lol.

Could you spray paint the net a darker color so they couldn’t see it or is it the movement of the net they see
We have a black net but it makes no difference. I think they see us, it makes a difference as to which way the sun is facing, but sometimes nothing bothers them they just hang on and you can lift them right in. I guess that's why there will always be crabs. Thanks for Watching

We got some big ones that day
Where are all the bugs. Right now in NJ we have strawberry flies, pine flys. The green heads will be starting soon.
We had more luck, with hand lines. We’d drop traps and maybe catch 2 crabs in the traps. Catch a lot of fish n starfish trapped in the traps.
We use handlines a lot especially to check out new spots. Thanks for Watching

We do especially in the summer. We put ice in a plastic box and put it in our ice chest and wet a piece of burlap or a towel and cover them, that will keep them damp and cool. Thanks for Watching
