Roli made a product called songmaker kit which bundles the seaboard block, the lightpad block, the loop block, and music production softwares, sound engine, DAWS, and more.
Yes i see, way to expensive. I just bough a Roland A-300PRO with a pressure sensitive keyboard and 8 drumpads with aftertouch, 9 sliders 9 turn knobs. This cost me as much as one of their modules. I'm writing my own Free synth that runs in a website on WebGL, not finished yet i want it to support almost all midi options. If it is finished programmers can easily make extra instruments in shadercode (like on shadertoy.com) that outputs the instrument waveform. And then write shadercode for effects like reverb, equalizer etc. which runs in a second pass. My video-card can easily do over 250 passes and still generate realtime sound so i'm optimistic about it. I'm working on making all midi parameters available with variable names. In the most recent version i wrote a distortion on pressure effect with the line "return clamp(getInputSample(0.0) * (1.0 + 5.0 * pressure), -0.75, 0.75)" which i hope i can teach to people and make it educational. I've had little feedback so far since i'm still building, that's why i'm dropping this here. shadersynth.com Still would like to see what messages a seaboard sends to do the slides between notes.
Brad Barreau people are willing to pay 3000 pounds for guitars that sound the same as something 2000 pounds cheaper but this actually Has something going for it...
kleverklogs buying an expensive guitar Pros: pick ups and wiring is better, wood is better and gives better tone, most importantly the entire guitar tens to feel much more playable Cons: expensive
I bought the Seaboard Block and loved it, for the first 6 months... After a while it got boring being only able to play melodies and barely play drums. The instrument is very difficult to record with because of how glitchy the surface can be sometimes. I recommend buying the Lightpad M because you can play melodies, drums, and use it as an XYZ pad which is way more then what the Seaboard can do plus it’s smaller and cheaper
It’s cool to watch on UA-cam but hardly anyone of us is actually about to buy this thing. Truth is most musicians are perfectly fine with a good keyboard hooked up to ableton or other softwares.

This is a really cool idea, and although most people are just fine with buying a good solid MIDI controller, BLOCKS is an amazing option for more textile people. The whole thing is built around touch, and I think that's a really cool aspect you can't get on any other MIDI controllers.

This video, everything in it: Voice actor, features, music, BUTTONS, TOUCH, cut, camera. pictures, syncing everything together. I think this is definition of creativity. Feels like by brain can't even handle all those things in those 3:38.
I have to say, this is an amazing advert. So much coordination is needed between the video, music and voice over. I'm tempted to get one even though I'm not really interested in electronic music (P.S. I'm a pianist)
@Inthegarden 123 Hahahaha and what are you? Bruh, the only people who use "virgin" as an insult are the ones who are too insecure themselves. My first comment was just stating a fact. No aggression at all. It seems like you're the pathetic one here.
This makes me feel so small because no matter what you make on this instrument there will always be more combinations you can do. There is so much one can do with such a small piece of equipment its insane.
Do you're research the Launchpad S cost around 100 Bucks (If you count the MK2 then yeah its 200 bucks but that one has TONS more Features then the little light box)
I'm no music producer, but I am a music teacher and I will say this would be a neat thing to have for kinesthetic learners who would like to make music for fun. It's definitely a gateway for creativity for people who learn and create by doing/feeling rather than just listening or writing. Albeit, it's a bit expensive. Lower the price and I'll consider buying for something to do in my free time
Now for only 300$ for the seaboard block and a small fee of 200$ to get the lightpad block M, don't forget the M for we have a block for letters A, B, C basically the entire english alphabet for only 200$ each. For full control buy the loop block, live block and the touch block for only 100$ each. We recommend buying 3 of each for extreme control of the instrument. (what i'm trying to say is that this costs too much m8)
I came up with this idea about 12 years ago, but didn't have the cash to build and market it. A keyboard with modules that could grow into a mini studio. But I'm glad that someone else eventually came up with it again and funded it. Nice work, but no doubt out of my price range, so I'll stick to my normal synths, computers and system, as much as my wife hates how much room it all takes up. Edit: Not expensive at all. Follow the link. Just very limited in polyphony.
exactly... here is little example, of what you can afford • The Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX2 will be available for US$1699 from September 2017. www.digitaldjtips.com/2017/09/pioneer-dj-officially-launches-xdj-rx2-one-system/ nice example how much they try fuck with us...
cool concept, but these are just toys. You cam honestly do the same thing in every musical hardware/software you use. Its all for the fancy looks and the expensive price tags that gives it popularity.
Can you suggest a piece of hardware that does the same smooth shifting between notes thing that happens at 0:25 in the video? I don't think I've seen one that can do that and the feature looks really cool. Thanks!
its a low frequency oscillator algorithm on the violin stroke audio sample, activated by the motion of you moving your finger in that specific gesture. all they did was make a silicone-coated midi keyboard with innovative buttons. however, due to this, the functionality of the product is limited, and what you may often notice with this product is faulty gesture interpretations (the equipment acting on its own) or missed gestures (the equipment not responding whatsoever). \ As for hardware that does this, the idea would be impractical, as you can do this yourself, for free, with common software and any piece of electronic equipment. And now, ALTHOUGH the idea is impractical, i will now proceed to list off equipment that can do pitch vibrato on synths. 1.) any midi controller in existence i will now name off hardware that is actually MORE LIMITED in its capabilities as a music production tool, than an Akai MPC60, released in 19-fucking-88 1.) this dumb ass block thing 2.) anything else you would probably buy, my dude if you want something cheaper than this, that does the same thing, do some research. if not, please buy this because it thins the heard in an industry where everyone wants to become the shepherd
Jonathan Rothenberger the thing is, I'm not buying a product like this to perform or make actual music. i just want it because it looks cool as hell to play and toy around with. I'm not looking for a launchpad because I don't like how membrane it feels (personal opinion, but I know launchpads are great.). I like how this adds sort of a physical characteristic (although I agree it is quite gimicy.) and makes it more appealing to me.
The block idea is cool but the actual capabilities of the complete instrument should be the main thing they should advertise instead of the block shit.
people trippin cus you can get a better controller for much less. this is a toy, and selling it piece by piece is just a way for them to charge more. They're ripping you off, in a pretty smart way
Tvrdy Livaja It would only be fun for a little bit, and I would probably end up forgetting about it after a while. But I'm not as in to creating music as other people, so that's just me.
I’ve had the lightpad since 2016, the seaboard since 2017 and controller block I got this year. Don’t be turned away by price or difficultly. It’s taken me two years to finally notice how they truly grow with you, and how I’ve developed patterns and routines. I would 100% recommend starting off with the noise app and one block. Master it, then slowly buy more and your creative side will definitely show.
Hollow Scorpion they're doing a song maker kit at the minute which includes the block seaboard. The lightpad m and the loop block with all the software for 550. I think that's fairly decent considering how powerful the kit is
I think this is much easier to use since gesture is the pattern for the music you want to play and it incredibly can play multiple instruments like it sounds guitar, piano, violin and so much more if you can imagine the different sounds it will make when you already try it to yourself. Oh myy GoOodnessSs. I wish I can bought one for me😭
The reason this was iOS only at first was because 3D Touch allowed for proper use of the sound board in the app. You won't be able to play music on android without the roli hardware I don't think.
Data Hogs 3d touch was a lie, what u were actully doing was holding it down slightly longer, which gives you a false impression that it sunk in, there are some videos floating around of people taking the phone apart and proving the screen isn't sensitive to the force of the touch
3d touch is no lie. If you've ever used an iphone you would know that there are multiple levels of pressure you can apply. Take the live wallpapers for example. I can pause the lock animation at any point depending on the amount of force I apply. It is not a timer. It is a pressure sensitive screen.
Wen I was younger and really into composition. I remember wanting this huge setup with like 4 of EVERY block. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I may be buying these as gifts for my friend's birthday because he's the one taking music theory.
You could buy an alien ware r8, razer black widow elite, logitech g502, oculus rift, MSI optic g24c, and have $180 in the steam/oculus store with $3.13 to spare (this is all with sales tax of 8.25%
This feels way too nostalgic, I might've watched this when I was around 14 Thanks to that, I've now gained some composing skills, just from watching this specific video
I am gonna get one of these. May take a while to save up, but it will be worth it. No price is too small to get something that fits perfectly with my playing style.
Even after 6 years, this thing still feels like something from the future. Great job on being innovative!

It's been collecting dust in his closet. He just made a few beats with it the first few months and that's it
Wow! Santa must have been stocking up his wallet to get this for you! 😂
Is your dad Jeff Bezos???
So much block, next update they'll add cobblestone block so you can build a fort out of music.
Lol, yes! Totally agree with this. Cobblestone is Lyfe!
I heard if you combine the Lava block with the Water block the right way you can use the result to create a portal directly into Skrillex's bathroom.
Sad's Channel I love this comment of a comment lmfao

Me, who can't clap in sync: damn I wish I had this...
I have to say, this is an amazing advert. So much coordination is needed between the video, music and voice over. I'm tempted to get one even though I'm not really interested in electronic music (P.S. I'm a pianist)
I can see buying this and making it sound like a exactly not like the video.
For ios its terrible the touch blocks are very unresponsive and there is lots of delay when more than two things are added
Remy well, fucken, don’t try and use it with a _phone_
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👌🏾
Sound like to lazy to get one
I'm gonna buy it...
When it will cost less than 50€
Never then
In your non existent dreams dude. Even though I also think they're really expensive, 50 pounds is way too cheap to produce something of this calibre.
@Inthegarden 123 I wasn't particularly aggressive
@Inthegarden 123 Hahahaha and what are you? Bruh, the only people who use "virgin" as an insult are the ones who are too insecure themselves. My first comment was just stating a fact. No aggression at all. It seems like you're the pathetic one here.
Bro, that's insanely cheap for this kind of technology
This makes me feel so small because no matter what you make on this instrument there will always be more combinations you can do. There is so much one can do with such a small piece of equipment its insane.
i love refrigerators
*Says in Chinese
Literally the mobile version of garageband does everything this does
Ew garageband, fucking use Auxy for the love of fuck
Abyssal auxy costs money lol
SteviArts LoL so true. Just fire up your iPad and you’re good to go.
except for the fact that you don't get the feedback of pressing actual keyboard notes and buttons and the pressure sensitivity
@theLMGN You can connect Garageband to most keyboards with either Bluetooth or a cable.
I aint paying 200 Bucks for a little box with funky lights on it. I'd rather go to Novation for that
I'm pretty sure a Launchpad is just a funky box with lights on it that is also....$200...
Do you're research the Launchpad S cost around 100 Bucks (If you count the MK2 then yeah its 200 bucks but that one has TONS more Features then the little light box)
If they make a part that has knobs I'm 1000% buying this since it'd be so useful for synth plugin design and live playability.
I’ll just stick to my minecraft note blocks
OH WAIT, who couldn't forget about the songmaker kit which only costs a measly 599$
but i want to release n o i s e
That electronic part was literally.. I’m speechless, anyone with headphones is missing out
Me:Oooo that’s awesome totally buy

Me:Well there goes my interest
I came up with this idea about 12 years ago, but didn't have the cash to build and market it. A keyboard with modules that could grow into a mini studio. But I'm glad that someone else eventually came up with it again and funded it. Nice work, but no doubt out of my price range, so I'll stick to my normal synths, computers and system, as much as my wife hates how much room it all takes up.
Edit: Not expensive at all. Follow the link. Just very limited in polyphony.
and that whole set up only cost $1500??? Forget my hopes of ever having the chance to play blocks.
exactly...
here is little example, of what you can afford
• The Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX2 will be available for US$1699 from September 2017.

@@ywrtqq you're lucky, mine is 1500 x 50.
@@niko-oy1cq
you know it's still the sane amount of money? maybe little less, maybe little more. It depends on the country.
"But how can we sell someone a keyboard in 8 pieces?"
cool concept, but these are just toys.
Thanks!
yeah same as Kent I don't really know much about the creation part of music but this looks hella cool. what is the cheaper alternative?
The only alternative I can think of is an iPad mini.
its a low frequency oscillator algorithm on the violin stroke audio sample, activated by the motion of you moving your finger in that specific gesture. all they did was make a silicone-coated midi keyboard with innovative buttons. however, due to this, the functionality of the product is limited, and what you may often notice with this product is faulty gesture interpretations (the equipment acting on its own) or missed gestures (the equipment not responding whatsoever).
\
As for hardware that does this, the idea would be impractical, as you can do this yourself, for free, with common software and any piece of electronic equipment.
And now, ALTHOUGH the idea is impractical, i will now proceed to list off equipment that can do pitch vibrato on synths.
1.) any midi controller in existence
i will now name off hardware that is actually MORE LIMITED in its capabilities as a music production tool, than an Akai MPC60, released in 19-fucking-88
1.) this dumb ass block thing
2.) anything else you would probably buy, my dude
if you want something cheaper than this, that does the same thing, do some research. if not, please buy this because it thins the heard in an industry where everyone wants to become the shepherd
The block idea is cool but the actual capabilities of the complete instrument should be the main thing they should advertise instead of the block shit.
imagine needing all the 88 keys, that’ll cost thousands of dollars only for the keys
But they didn't make a new instrument it's for production
Oh neat I'll just grab the thousands of pounds I have lying around and get all this weird ass equipment that I'll have no clue how to use
It's even more expensive than the iphone
Not much
Well obviously you have to know how to use stuff like this first
use a real currency britbong
@@redoutlawrisen oh yeah he will sure get something else to use in hhhis country, sure, surely
We took the synthesizer experience you knew and cut it up into little bits so we could sell it to you separately.
Brilliant.
people trippin on the price of this but really its not that outrageous compared to some traditional instrumental setups ive seen
people trippin cus you can get a better controller for much less. this is a toy, and selling it piece by piece is just a way for them to charge more. They're ripping you off, in a pretty smart way
Alex Forte you can get the same things on a computer for free and similar things in real life for half the price
Alex Forte seriously? just buy a $500 piano and boom its way better, and like if you want to play a song you need way more than like 12 keys
Cyrillic lmao you do not know what the fuck you’re talking about dumbass
Alex Forte ya that’s true
People:So what instruments do you play?
(Shows blocks)
Me:All of them
(Edit: Dear god, this comment got so many likes! Quite impressed)
LFCookie • or none of them :/
LFCookie • blocks is for rich brats who don't know how to play anything
Great Mallard oh...So its a nice way of wasting your money on something you will use for the first 30 minutes and get bored
LFCookie • what about the acoustic typewritter
Mr G 1324 I gotchu fam
Setup at last third of the video costs 1400 bucks. yea, I'll wait...
thedvas 1310 euros.
That's actually 1500 US dollars.
Not including the MacBook? Cause that'll run you a good 800-1500
UA-cam stop recommending me this, I want these things TOO MUCH.
FL Studio in its physical form😂
someone doesnt know what physical means :3
god no
Zacky but fl studio is in real life...

when is summer sale?
Tvrdy Livaja its already over sry dude
I barely got the last one!
Tvrdy Livaja people actually want this shit?
Johnny Cat why not.. For fun
Tvrdy Livaja It would only be fun for a little bit, and I would probably end up forgetting about it after a while. But I'm not as in to creating music as other people, so that's just me.
You add blocks to expand your playing surface, or add control... i'm not really adding much if i'm loosing a couple hundred quid
P R O D I G Y expand
Todays episode of "Things you will never own"
I’ve had the lightpad since 2016, the seaboard since 2017 and controller block I got this year. Don’t be turned away by price or difficultly. It’s taken me two years to finally notice how they truly grow with you, and how I’ve developed patterns and routines. I would 100% recommend starting off with the noise app and one block. Master it, then slowly buy more and your creative side will definitely show.
Oooh shit I need this ;-;
*LOOKS AT PRICES*
Hollow Scorpion
It’s about 2000 or maybe 3000$ to get everything
Hollow Scorpion they're doing a song maker kit at the minute which includes the block seaboard. The lightpad m and the loop block with all the software for 550. I think that's fairly decent considering how powerful the kit is
I like it. Works well with a loop station setup and i like touching SOMETHING. It's still an instrument at the end of the DAY.
Why do you type like THIS
I think this is much easier to use since gesture is the pattern for the music you want to play and it incredibly can play multiple instruments like it sounds guitar, piano, violin and so much more if you can imagine the different sounds it will make when you already try it to yourself. Oh myy GoOodnessSs. I wish I can bought one for me😭
You guys are doing great things for the music community! :)
I was expecting him to say also get our cheap app
**Checks price**
**Cries**
The8-BitNerd You don't actually own an iphone right?
I do in fact, if you were asking me.
The fact that this was all in B made me happy
0:27 damn i'd like this to get a full version lol

Does anyone want a full version of the melody at 0:08

Wen I was younger and really into composition. I remember wanting this huge setup with like 4 of EVERY block. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I may be buying these as gifts for my friend's birthday because he's the one taking music theory.
they dont sell them anymore... now that i'm older, i wanted to buy these but i can't find them...
I wish i could have this instrument, it's so cool and seems way better than doing synth on computer!
could you just have like 5 hundred of the seaboard blocks hooked up and get ridiculously high notes?
you can only hook up 2
Even if, the humans ear, only handle up to 20.000Hz
@@steviejandjoseline776 you can hook up more
