BROWN COUNTY, INDIANA: Bring the kids!

- We love sharing our love for the outdoors with our girls! We take a family stay-cation to Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. I will share some small hikes(and mushrooms along the way!) that toddlers can handle, some unique shops and stops in downtown Nashville, a few fun things to do around the state park lodge, and some great places to EAT!

Mt. Ida in the Ouachita mountains of Arkansas has the highest quality crystal gem stones in North America. There are several dig-your-own mines there.
I can tell you are an experienced mom… Cora got carried through the blown glass shop! Good thinking… you didn’t end up buying a unicorn with a broken horn!
That was an excellent family fun excursion. I wish we’d slowed down a bit and taken more of them… when our girls were small!
Coincidentally… I put out a video on mushrooms last week. It has several different ones shown.

Crater of Diamonds State Park, Murfreesboro, Arkansas. The only place in the US where you can dig for Diamonds and keep what you find.

It's been a long time but visited Brown County several times in the 50's and 60's. I went to a church camp near there and they would take us to the part to
swim. We went on the boat ride into one of the caves that are part of the underground river network. There were blind fish in one of the caves.

Every time we go to a state park we are just in awe of the work they did. Hard work at its finest. People take it for granted.

great video. I enjoy that you love nature and are showing the kids what it is about. If you ever make it to South Dakota you should go to the Badland. The area is amazing and is so different then your area and the kids would enjoy it. Also they have areas around that area you can do the rock/gold mining with the kids

Try Bryson city NC railway through the mountains past some beautiful vistas. Rock hunting and gem hunting nearby as well gold panning in some creaks. We live in NC and have been to several sites out that way. Very nice area to explore and hike but the hiking is more for adults. Go to google earth Park, Rector Street, Bryson City, NC to look around the area. Good luck and enjoy.

The train ride at French Lick is cool. Around Christmas time they do the polar express for the kids. Not sure if you have been through the West Baden hotel. Amazing building. I don’t know if it’s open to anyone since COVID.
Yes our girls love the polar express. Last I heard you couldn’t enter the resort without renting the room so we haven’t been in a while 😒

Great to see your daughters tagging along, they sure do add another dimension to your escapes, never a dull month with them!!! Unfortunately I don't know of any other places you can visit, I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic! 🤦♂️
How did you manage a visit to Nashville when it wasnt overrun with cars and people???? Love to visit whenever I get back home.
