If you think about it. That's like most of Phoebe's career. Whether her sound in a lot of songs, covering his songs, writing process, and her literally saying he's her inspiration.
I love seeing this. He sparked her album “punisher” as she considers herself a punisher for Elliott. You hear her talk about him throughout the album. Really wish she sang this when I went to see her! ❤️
@@MonkeyWrenchClang phoebes said the song punisher in some ways expresses an obsessed fan who like fangirls? over their idol to the point where they feel trapped something like that
This vocal harmony, where both of them are singing a completely different melody from one another, is sang in a way that makes their voices harmonize and resonate in such a fascinatingly unique way. If they were singing the same notes with the only difference being the guy singing in a lower octave and Phoebe in a higher octave, like in the vast majority of duets in pop songs are sang, this would be so lifeless and flat compared to how they actually sang it here! @@rat4sale254 you know what? you just explained me into it... see, i thought my ears were hearing shit, but i guess your explanation means they're not.
The harmonies sound incorrect on a few notes. Sometimes they aren't supposed to follow the lead voice, they're supposed to stay on the same note or jump further than what would be expected. It depends on the underlying chord.
@Catherine M really? It works, it's not true to the original by any means, but it completely works, sounds spot on and is executed well, suppose its just preference at this point.

yeah coming back to this I think he's the issue really. I don't really know how harmony is supposed to work, but he's not hitting the melody notes in a ton of spots.
Phoebe just plain sucks, she thinks she's some hipster Messiah.... the dude sucks also, but at least he keeps the harmonics and pacing of the song to resemble some semblance of proper respect, she always screws up covers thinking she's making them her own when it fact they are often two octaves higher off pitch and makes Dinosaur Junior seem like a metronome....... Phoebe's harmony is so magical
the balance is just kinda off, that's why phoebe's harmonies may sound a bit intrusive or weird. phoebe should be a lot quieter
Screw em all I think this cover rocks.
forever in love with this cover❤
thank u so much youtube for recommending me this
i’m trying to not cry on zoom cuz of how beautiful this is & the way this cover touched my heart. 🥺❤️
great cover. idk why people are complaining about the harmonies. if you know the song the melody is still there. idk what yall talkin about

I don't get it why people are hating on the harmonization and on the guitar playing. It sounded fantastic.
Have you heard the original?
rip one of the best...elliott smith :/
Perfect.
at first i thought phoebe was ruining it but the harmonies are low key genius

YES YES AND MORE YES.
Great interpretation!
Yes!
Sorry, don't like the way she sings it. The dude is on point though.
When and where was this filmed?
Fairly sure it's at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, don't know when. They've done this a couple times though.
I respect them for doing the cover but it doesn’t work for me. Their voices are too similar, they don’t complement each other.
Do y’all not know what harmonizing is?
yea i was wondering that too..

for me, its the other way around. i think the guy is singing the melody straight from the original, while phoebe puts her own twists in her harmonics

you ruined this with background singers it’s not in tune and kills the intimacy of the original. im gonna SAY NO.
