Yes, yes it did.
It harbors the realities of being a leader and the whole song entails that tune. A king, queen, bishop, priest, whomever - any of the truly honest and good - all suffer from the pains of those they serve. Furthermore, they are required to make sacrifices that may come at great personal cost.
Mind you, its not all bad but the nature of the song focuses on the melancholy of a ruler.

Pretty much what happens from perspectives like hers. She initially only sees the good but once she gets the crown she realizes the bad as well. I don't know the series it comes from (according to another commenter) but I can imagine it goes something like that.

When you suffer mentally no matter how luxurious your life is, it is meaningless if it is your mind that suffers. Hence the "chains of glimmering gold". A slave all the same, just different paths of suffering.

Power is something that have very strong influence. You know how much people fought in the past to become the ruler of everything. But once you have a sense of what a ruler have to go though, you lose interest in it. But then it's too late to turn around, so you must make sacrifices, including sending people whom you love/trusted/are loyal to you to war. You cry when you hear the worst, and you can do almost nothing for them.
I wrote this because my grandfather was a
leader in war and experienced pretty much what I just said. I wish he lived a happy afterlife in heaven. :.(

A story that would fit this
There was a little girl. She was raised to be the next ruler of the kingdom... Her parents adopted her as a baby so that they could raise her as the next queen. Her parents always told her to hide her angelic wings and never tell anyone about being half angel. She hid that from the world and with her angelic wings and abilities she was able to see her friends die one by one...
She didn't want to see them die. She was too scared to do anything so she would just watch them die over and over again...(When her parents died she was left with the task of becoming the next queen)...
She had a really close friend(a herald) who she told about her angelic wings and abilities. Her close friend soon became her secret lover and he ended up dying. She found out soon after his death that she was pregnant with his child and later had a beautiful daughter with angelic wings...
She was very upset and didn't want to send anyone else to die... She had begged her secret lover not to go out and get himself killed but he did it all to protect her...
She secretly cries tears for her lost lover and a trusted herald he was...
She knew that her citizens of her Kingdom came first and her secret lover knew this too...
Her daughter was to be the next queen and suffer the same as her mother once did...
... Losing so many friends and to never see them again...

This is what good kings and queens had to go trough daily, they deserve the highest respect as they did what very few can do, give up their own freedom for the people and all the sacrifices that will have to be done. It truly is a blessing and a curse to rule, being chained down to it with golden chains....how sad.

Angela'sSoRandom the song is from a book series by Mercedes Lackey. And honestly it's been a while since I read all the books set in Vladimar so I can't tell you which trilogy set its from. All the books are great though. And the music sets that go with them are all worth the listen as well.

I always imagined my Inquisitor from DragonAge Inquisition when I hear this. She always sends her friends, along with herself, into danger for the people of Thedas, and I also think of how she cares for everyone in her Inquisition, but no one truly knows how she feels on the inside.(Except her Kadan(Bull) of course XD) She was also a Trevelyan, a Noble(Human) so she already knew the troubles of power before she became Inquisitor.

I feel like you could make this about a queen justifying that she sent her son out into the war, probably as a general and not a soldier but still
You are not that far away. The song is based of the Valdemar series of book. In valdemar there's an order of people, the Heralds that serve the kingdom and the Queen, herself an Herald. Heralds act as warriors, spies and even judge, on behalf of the Queen, but they seldom die of old age because of the sacrifices they must do to keep the common people safe. So most times the Queen must send her heralds to dangerous mission for the good of the kingdom. The herald group is a tightly knot bunch, they are more like a family. So for the Queen it's like sending brothers, sisters, sons and daughter to die.

Not exactly. We so little of Chrysalis, we can't form too much of a character for her. We don't know anything of her backstory, or what happened between seasons 2 and 6. It's possible she cares for her children, but doesn't really show it, or we don't see it. The song honestly fits both. This song is about a girl who is most likely queen or princess that can't do nothing right and when they try to do something right, she messes up. Also this song is also pretty mess up with "Send no more to die" she didn't defend her people like she was told.
