Thanks a lot for the great video! Elgato Video Capture is good (fast and easy to use) for digitizing VHS videos. Please advise, can the setting be set to PAL 720x576 25p, because the video was only 640x480? If possible, please teach how this can be done.

This particular video was edited using Final Cut Pro, where the settings can be adjusted within the software when rendering.
I would eventually like to do a video on the basics and tips/tricks of using the Final Cut Pro video editing software.
The El Gato device itself captures video in the universal H.264 digital file and handles PAL and PAL / 60 video. I hope that this helps.
...bought a 'used' Elgoto thingee. after trouble shooting it on the Elgoto site (wires are now properly connected and the camera is 'on'). The thing copied a 30 year old 2 hour tape that sat on a shelf in a basement and did what it was designed to do. The digital file is visually acceptable with very good audio and the voice and picture are in sync. Worth repeating; Elgoto thingee did what it was designed to do. Will convert other vhs tapes and definitely recommend this little unit. ...of course, the condition of the vhs original will have much to do with the quality of the final outcome. 🙂

good video - thanks. I've seen several of these and they are all based on converting a whole tape or movie. In my case I have many videos of family affairs (such as Christmas mornings). I have no wish to convert all of them but would like to grab the best 10 or 15 minutes from each. Can yo start and stop the record function as you go through the tape or can you edit and cut out sections with this trim feature?
Hello and thank you for watching my video. I am not sure but I would think you can do individual recordings and save them as separate files. If you have a good editing software you can then combine the files into a longer video.

Helpful video! Can this device be used to transfer mini DV tapes from a Sony handycam camcorder to my Windows computer? If so, would I plug the device into the S Video cable on the camcorder or would I use the composite (RCA) cables? Since the camcorder has both types, I wasn't sure which I should use. Thanks very much.

Have you copied a finished file from your laptop to a thumb drive to verify it works properly? This would be my intent. I want to put several old

Very strange how this is in my recommended videos. I have the same elgato cable or whatever it is. But never used it.

Any issues with audio going out of sync on a long 2hr record? Also, I would like to transfer the finished captured file to a flash drive or external drive. What’s the best software to use to do this?
Hello and thank you for watching my video. I have not personally had any audio problems; it might depend on whether the equipment or devices being used have any limitations. As for transferring the video files, I have transferred them the same as any other files and have not needed any specific software. I have to say that it is great to be able to bring to life the old VHS videos again.
Audio sync issues are due to dropping video frames and not audio.
Do you know if the current version of the Elgato works with the Apple M1 Ultra Chip? I am using Mac Version OS 12.6 Monterey. Thank you!
Hi and thank you for watching my video. I only have the M1 chip in both my IPAD Pro and IPAD Mini so I have not used them with the Elgato device, but only with my PC. On the Elgato website it only states that system wise it can operate on OS 10.6.8 or later but does not state any problems with the M1 and / or M2 chips.I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.
What software can help record only the videos? I remember using Dazzle (i dunno who borrowed it and never brought it back) but it would pause capturing when there was snow/blue screen and capture only the video portion. I have an Elgato, and it DEFINITELY doesnt have this feature.... Video files are up to 20gb
Hi and thank you for watching my video. It's been years but I remember Dazzle software. It appears that you can still purchase Dazzle on Amazon, but since I haven't used it in a very long time, I don't know how well it works now.

I personally utilize Apple’s Final Cut Pro software on my IMAC computer for all of my video editing needs. However, there are other great video editing software programs available.
As for burning the videos onto a DVD, I use the software that came preloaded on my computer for burning DVD’s.
Will this work for macrovision bypass
were you using this cable on Windows 11. I seem to find lots of people saying it doesnt work, then some saying its ok? any advice much appreciated before I make purchase.

Although I did not have an issue using Windows 11, I too have heard complaints about that particular operating system with the El Gato device. If you are not sure, you may want to consider just using Windows 10 then if possible. The El Gato capture device works very well with that operating system.
@@knowtech2576 thanks for the reply, theres an option when you right click on the driver for most things to have it operate to a lower OS, so I may just purchase it and give that a punt.. thanks for your video.
I've tried it with windows 11 and there's a problem with the driver. In order to use it I've had to disable the Memory Integrity which apparently renders my PC vulnerable to malicious code. Therefore, when using the elgato device I disconnect from wi-fi. In fact, that's why I've been searching youtube videos to learn if there's a solution. So far, I've not learned of any.
What is the "File Extension" capture format. H.364, Mpg4, avi or other ? THANKS

I’m working on transferring my videotapes to digital but the issue I’m having is that many of the videotapes won’t rewind, I’m able to play, and sometimes fast forward but no rewind ☹️
Hello etzivero4189, and thank you for watching my video. Have you tried using a dedicated video cassette rewinder or different VCR? It's sad that the tapes don't hold up well over time.
@@knowtech2576 I haven’t try a video cassette rewinder, I completely forgot they existed. I will check couple of things first to figure out either if my VHS is damaged or if the videotapes reels are stuck or both 😩

Approx. how many GB for say 1 hr of vhs tape?
People like myself are fixing a break vhs movies with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's

Hi, not that I recall. Once it was downloaded, the software synced up with my operating system very well. I was then able to transfer numerous VHS videos to the digital format with no problem.

Thank you for subscribing. Windows 10 works very well with the El Gato device but I have also used it with Windows 11. So far so good.

What is wrong having vhs tapes VCR players
Hello and thank you for very much for watching my video. Over time my VHS tapes had begun to oxidize and lose both video and audio quality. Also, VCR's are not now as readily available as they once were, and I have had some tapes get chewed up in the machine. Therefore, I chose to back up the videos to a digital format for safekeeping, as well as for peace of mind and lots of kept memories.
TVs causes problem's not your vhs tapes everything proven people are not thinking right now days everything proven tvs taking quality out of your vhs tapes or putting more greater quality in your VHS tapes everything proven people like myself are whiching them myself and I know that some tvs taking quality out of your vhs tapes and like my own tv I have it continues to put more greater quality in my vhs tapes
It’s a personal choice. I doubt he cares if others watch there vhs instead of digitizing them. Most people like them digital to share and watch.

You need to sharpen your video more dude, cut to the point you title says How to use elgato capture car, but you spen half of the video talking about VHS tapes and vcr, c'mon bro
This device is incompatible with Linux, so it is completely useless. Fortunately I already have a Dazzle video converter (which DOES work with Linux), and this device doesn't appear to do anything different than the Dazzle.
