  • Ride with me while I attempt to start an International Harvester Loadstar 1600 for the first time in way over a decade! Will it run!? Or will I fail... Hopefully we can save this cool old farm truck from the certain doom of rotting into the ground or being crushed at the scrapyard!
This truck would make a great addition to the homestead for moving logs, firewood, lumber, or whatever else I want to haul with it. Don't forget to Like this video and Subscribe to my channel to follow along for more adventures, because this is only Part 1!
    Thanks for watching!

Just started work on my 1977 Loadstar 1700 project. This brings me back to when I got mine out of a field.

I am looking at a '73 1700 dump truck. Runs well but no brakes. I told the guy if he gets the brakes fixed and 2 tires fixed I would buy it from him. He just texted me tonight he has the brakes figured out and waiting for parts to deliver. I am excited to get it and start fixing it up the rest of the way. Looking forward to your next video on yours!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments! There was a slight hiccup with the owner of the truck but it's all worked out now. Part 2 coming soon!!

Hey, Mac! I have a completely unreasonable love for these old Loadstars, I have a '66 1700 myself -- I have to say that this one is really rough. If you're willing to put the effort into her though, she'll repay you in kind, it's amazing how hard these old trucks will work. Not to mention the powertrain will long outlive the cab on even well-kept examples like mine.
Some parts I can almost guarantee will need replaced/rebuilt immediately on this truck: brake master, clutch master/slave, and the accelerator pump diaphragm. Those are all pretty common problem parts on derelict Loadstars, definitely inspect them before taking a drive on surface streets of any kind.
Anyways, best of luck to you -- I can't wait to see how this project develops and will certainly be following along!

Thanks for the heads up KingCub! There will definitely be a good amount of work in this truck before it's ready to work. I have a friend who is currently rebuilding an entire brake system on a late '60s Loadstar. He is tackling it ok, but has run into trouble finding certain parts. Do you have a preferred place to buy parts other than somewhere like NAPA? Our local one seems to do pretty well cross-referencing part numbers, but still somewhat limited. Thanks for watching! - Mac

@@adventureswithmac7564 That doesn't surprise me, a lot of the parts on these trucks are obsolete and haven't been made since the 80's. I use OutBack Parts in Spokane, WA, but they mostly deal with Scouts and Travelalls so it can still be kinda hit or miss.

Thanks for watching Mason! I'm pretty sure this truck has a 345. As it turns out, the old farmer tells me it had just been gone through before he parked it. Win!
