Kea Lynn it took about 2 months for my hair to compleatly adjust from the oily stage but i wanted to get away from using shampoos and conditioners. For the days that looked a bit oily i did the cornstartch and cocoa thing too but i havent needed that in ages now. I think im about 2 years without shampoo and conditioners
@@KeaLynn I too also wash my hair 1 to 2 times a week. It takes time to adjust. I started by just washing my hair every other day. Then when my hair seemed to be adapting by not being so oily I would lengthen it by washing every 2 days etc. Your hair generally is oily due to showering daily and stripping the natural oils your hair has so it has to do overtime to supplement the oils.

This was a huge concern I used to have. Over some time I've realized the easiest step towards low waste is to stop buying things you don't truly need :) That on its own will reduce a drastic amount of waste. And I did not know you could ask Amazon about less plastic like Lacilia said, but that would definitely be an additional solution too
OMG I’m so glad to have found your channel. I’ve been trying to make a transition to an eco-friendly lifestyle starting with thrifted clothing but now moving to other aspects of my living.
One way to decrease the amount you wash your long hair is to sleep in satin cap. I find it more comfortable because my hair is very long and it keeps my hair up off my neck and back. It comes out of cap looking nice with non frizzy waves. I end up just using wide tooth comb and sometimes a spritz of water depending on what's going on that day. I try to do every 3rd day wash, but it varies. I'm still using bottle shampoo, but I'm looking to make that change to bar.
Banana baby food is an awesome conditioner plus you can reuse the jar. I like to blend and double strain my over ripe bananas and freeze them in ice trays. Then I store the cubes in a reusable freezer bag or container. Aloe Vera juice doubles as a toner and hydrating leave-in/reparative treatment. The gel could be used instead of flax.
Bar None is at Urban Outfitters! They've been sold out on their own website for a while. They sell their bar shampoos/conditioners at UO and their aluminum bottles at Ulta
Thank you for this! I am recently on a journey to bring back my curly hair, but it seemed like I would’ve had to use all whole bunch of products that come in plastic! And I hated that. This gives me hope! 😄
Ahhh I know the journey well hehe 💛My hair definitely took a year or two to really really bounce back. I hope you like whatever you give a go! Sending you love x
Your waves are beautiful. The journey you've taken from last year to this year shows your hair curling up well. I've been natural for 2 years now and I finally love my tight coils shaped and defined. Flaxseed gel is amazing!
Wanted to say that I've been using a small UK based supplier called AmicaSoap and their products are all vegan, come with the option of 100% recyclable card packaging, the bars themselves are wrapped in recyclable paper, and you can even purchase a travel tin from them to keep the shampoo/conditioner bars in, I've used it more times than I can remember now on my travels and their syndet bars which are NOT made with SLS but other natural ingredients work wonders as I travel through different regions here in the UK with hard water.
I would love it if you did a video talking about supplements for a vegan diet but sustainable :) I always seem to struggle taking the liquid vitamins that come in glass bottles and don’t want to take the ones that come in plastic particularly. I’d love to know what you do :)
One of the things I found that really helps my hair grow quickly is cayenne pepper. I will mix a little with almond oil or coconut oil and place it at my roots. I do a scalp massage and then use my hair cap (I know its plastic but I got it before I started this lifestyle.. it's lasted for over three years!) which holds in my body heat while I stretch/ do the inversion method. The pepper does not burn my scalp, but I do only use about a 1/4 teaspoon total. My hair is not very thick and never has, but I started to use this treatment when my anxiety caused my hair to stop growing and my hair started to grow nearly an inch per month!
If you are wanting to revive your hair but not use shampoo you can try washing your hair with soap nut water. My scalp gets super oily fast and using soapnut water helps me pull through 4 days without shampooing. Also for scalp health try nupur henna. They sell this in Amazon, it's the best henna powder because it has 9 other herbs.
One tip my hairdresser told me to grow your hair, is a really easy one, but nothing has ever worked better. He says that your hair brakes on your shoulders and at the hight where most chairs end in your back. It's really hard to get over those two lengths. Whenever your hair is at shoulder-length the ends rush over your clothing whenever you turn your head and that makes them really thin and breaks them. So it's better to keep your hair up till it is a good part over your shoulders, so that it doesn't rush over them as much whenever you turn your head. Then it usually grows really nice till it is at chair-end-length, it breaks the fragile ends every time you hang back on a chair, so you should put your hair up or move it forward till enough of it as reached underneed it and your hair becomes it's own cushion against the chair ;) My mom has never managed to get long hair in her life, she has tried every masker, every pill, every treatment, every diet, nothing works, it never gets over her shoulders, now she started doing this simple ridiculous trick one year ago and her hair is already over her bra in the back! It's insane! So simple and effective and she needs to be 50 for someone to tell her the real key 😅😂 (you do need to hold on to it, almost ALWAYS put your hair up till it's a good part over the shoulders not now and then hehe) Love your video though ❤️ got a lot of nice tips of keeping my hair fairy like ✨🦋😍
I would love to see more hair care videos for coloured or previously damaged hair while it’s growing out. It’s been 1.5 years since last bleaching it and it’s a mess and I have to use specific conditioner, so far no natural shampoo or conditioner have worked. I would love for my hair to eventually look like yours again.
I tried stopping in Ulta because I wanted to try Bar None. Unfortunately, they will no longer be carrying the product. I'm super bummed. I could order online....but I'm trying to find an option that doesn't involve ordering online.
I just saw you on a video with Shelby and subscribed! As I was watching that video I kept saying that your hair was so beautiful and I wondered what you used on it! So glad I found this and a new person to follow on UA-cam!
Can you please make a videou about what lifestyle changes you 've maid to decrease your alergic periods with seborheic dermatities ? I struggle with mine since i was a kid!
So glad you made this! Been waiting like forever on an update lol I was so interested to see how you get your bangs so swoopy, now I know! Must've missed it on your story or something. You got such beautiful natural hair! In shock that you rarely brush your hair! Mine are also wavy but just above the chest, and it tangles like crazy, so I have to brush/comb it at least once a day. PS Bobby pins should be used with the flat side to the front, that way you don't need to "open" them. I did the same thing for years! We've all been there, but now I can't help but cringe whenever I see someone do'em wrong. xD xx
ooooh that makes so much sense!! haha I've been doing it wrong all these years 🙈But so glad this vid was a 'lil bit informative for ya! Sending you luvvvv 💛
The flax gel works REALLY well for curly and wavy hair! I use it as well and have hair quite a bit curlier than Christie’s (and probably half the length) and it works SO well!!
Ahhhh I love hearing this!!! I've heard such incredible things about flax gel and all kinds of curly hair! 💛The more encouragement for curly babes to switch to low waste options the better so THANK YOU! x
Amazing video!!!! But I think it doesn't need the background music, is very repetitive and distracting for people with ADD. BUT I seriously love your advises😊
Ages ago you did a video for itching scalps. You made a spray-on conditioner in a plastic bottle and added some essential oils and said it sorted it. Video said its private now! Can you tell me how u made it please? Thank you so much
thank you so much for this! my hair type is fairly similar to yours and I have such a hard time finding zero waste products! many of the other zero waste bloggers I follow have pin straight hair with no texture and I just know that the products they recommend are not going to work for me or anyone with more textured hair
Oh this is so helpful! Not only have I been trying to find natural and sustainable hair stuff for like 2 years now but also recently (after 3 kids 😅) my hair has changed from supper straight to 2a-2b waves like yours and I have no idea what to do with it!
Using a cotton tshirt to dry your hair is not as damaging! And its easy to tie with the sleeves :) (I'm literally typing this while my hair is wrapped up in a tshirt) ;)
10:32 I usually use talcum (is that how you call it?? The powder thing you put on babies' bums) as dry shampoo and put it on the night before so I can remove the excess in the morning. I think you can also add the cacao powder so that it doesn't look that white
I don’t think it was ever available at Sephora but it is still available at Urban Outfitters I believe, and defs on their website as well 💛 But I also recommend a few new ones and will do an updated hair care routine video in the next couple weeks! This video is a wee bit old. Hope that helps! x
Sedona Christina thanks Christie! I will purchase from there! I started using the JR Liggetts solid shampoo on your recommendation and I’m in love. Forever changed. Excited to foray into low waste beauty!
I just started watching your videos and I've been thinking about this stuff a lot. I'm si glad I stumbled on it. I have a tip for your hair routine. Use a bit of that bar as a leave in raking it through with your fingers. Then use the gel using the praying hands meathod (look it up) then wrap or plop your hair in a cotton t shirt(very important it's cotton and even better if it's long sleeved). Do this for about 15 minutes and take it down and scrunch it out.. add more water in gel if needed but it will probably be fine. Try it out darling I have a feeling you will be surprised!!
I recently made the switch to bar shampoo wich I am loving, but I was hesitant to try bar conditioner. I definately want to try it now Thanks to your video!
I watched your conditioner video and went to try the Bar None one. I love it! It is the best!! I also really love the smell :) thanks for the recommendation!
Kind of relevant-ish: If you haven't already, check out Rainbow Natural Remedies on 15th in Capitol Hill. I used to live down the street from it and loved it's DIY, zero waste supplies. It's a super cute small business I enjoyed supporting. Good resource if you're in the area!
Looked up that shampoo bar on Amazon and found this amazing company ethique. All the good things, going to have to check them out. Thanks for the tips.
Have you talked about seborrheic dermatitis lately in a video concerning diet and stuff? I've had it for about 15 years, tried everything over the counter, prescription, some natural stuff and nothing seems to even keep it at bay for a few days. I was wondering if there's a certain way I could eat to heal it tho?
Mea until she said that, I didn’t think there was any correlation but looking back, my flare ups usually happened when I wasn’t eating the healthiest and my good months were when I was minding what I put in my body (minimally processed and overall healthy food).
@@cwestte I was thinking there has to be something with diet and skin health but I looked up some studies and they claim there's no correlation (dermatitis-wise). But I also don't think there's been enough research on that. I'm leaning more toward diet does influence it than not, especially with input like yours and hers! I'm hearing more and more stories about it. Think I'll do a month of strictly nutritious eating and see how it reacts. Thanks so much for your response!! :) It's started spreading onto my face so I guess now is the best time to start experimenting. Lol
ahhhh THANK YOU!!!! It's been a wild ride, and I'm tryn'a make them forever for sure! Nothing brings me more joy than creating them and receiving comments like this. Fingers crossed! 💛 Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sending ya heaps of luv!!!
How can someone straighten your hair without heat when time is an issue? Do you leave that powder in your hair or brush it out after it sits? I have oily hair and some dandruff and need an effective "dry shampoo" for my dark hair?
The Bar None Conditioner is suppose to be available through Urban Outfitters in Canada...going to the city soon to find out....only place we have one in rural Nova Scotia...
Hi! I'm also from Canada (hometown NB, but studying in ON) and I ordered the Bar None conditioning bar through Urban Outfitter's website after seeing your comment because I didn't know where to get it in Canada, so thank you for that! But maybe you could try that since you don't seem to live close to a city? :)
What were the changes you made to your diet to help with your seborreahic (?) dermatitis? I have it as well and even using the extra strength (in the store blue bottles) doesn't seem to keep the irritation on my scalp at bay. :(
The best zero waste shampoo i have tried is rye flour. So simple, but so effective. And it takes only unnecessary oils from your hair (it doesn't mean your hair looks and feels greasy tho). So yeah, i recommend to try it out and see how it works for you guys^^
How do you use it? I am a visual person so unless someone explains what they are doing I would end up taking the flower out of the container dumping it on my head then looking at it like wtfudge did i just do. Then wash it out and never touch it again. lol
@@kaylag9579 Haha, of course i can explain! So you take some rye flour and mix it with a bit of water to get a shampoo-like consistency. Then it's better if you leave it in that container for around 20 minutes, but after that it's ready, and you can use it as a regular shampoo! Hope this helps :) But if you have any other questions, I will be happy to answer^^
@@kaylag9579 Actually no, everything's perfectly fine! It feels a bit more ''slimy'' than a regular shampoo, but definitely not sticky or anything. BUT I know a person who used whole grain rye flour, and she had dry flakes, so I highly recommend using sifted flour :)
I friggin love Chagrin Valley poo bars and JR Liggetts! I used to have crazy dry scalp (used to use suave), and ever since switching to bars my hair and scalp are so much healthier! Also love your wave/curls :) my hair is slightly wavy.
ahhh I've been so keen to try Chagrin Valley's stuff! I've heard good things but have loved my routine so much, that I haven't tried them just yet. You just convinced me to give them a go! Thank you!! x
Ordered the conditioner bar and it was delivered with an insane amount of plastic packing. I have messaged Ulta but will have to look elsewhere for this product. Just a heads up since we are all trying to reduce packaging.
Your hair is gorgeous!! 😍Has it always been this shiny? I'm so glad you made this video, I've just watched your other 2 hair videos and was full of questions, so this was perfect timing! :) One question, when you use the ACV rinse, do you use it before or after conditioner? Also, I think your curl/wave pattern has been enhanced by having your hair thinned. When I used to have layers in my hair, it would curl much more beautifully than it does now that it's all basically the same length. But I can't put layers in my hair because my hair is so thin. I miss the way my ponytails used to look like with layers, now it looks like an uneven limpy mess when I put my hair up 😭
I love your hair videos, so glad you made this one. I meant to try the flaxseed gel after the last video you mentioned it in and totally forgot. I’m defiantly going to try it now though! I’m also going to try out the inversion method!
What other shampoos from that brand did you try? What didn't you like/ what do you like better about the tea tree & hemp? I was just about to order from them!
Ethique has some really great zero waste hair products (shampoo and conditioner bars and concentrates) and all their ingredients are sustainably and ethically sourced if anyone's looking for a good shampoo. They also have a pretty wide range of products for different hair concerns (sensitive scalps, dry hair, oily hair, blonde hair, curly/coily hair) which isn't always the case for zero waste brands so if you haven't found a shampoo bar that works for you they might be worth a try. Not an ambassador or anything, I just ordered some products I love so just wanted to share :)
Hi christina ! I would like to have your advice about no shampoo method. Ive been reading a lot and I found that some people had issues after years of no washing their hair (like hairloss) I recently stared my transition but im a little bit worried, is that true? can you help me with that 🤗
Hi Christina, your videos are so helpful, I love them! I recently started using Hair Masks made at home because i've been loosing a lot of hair. My hair is very fragile looking, dry, etc. But these treatments have made a world of difference. However, I can't wait to make a mask you made with Shea Butter, I have never purchased it before. Where can I get real Shea butter? I've heard is not easy to find pure Shea butter because is mixed with other additives. Thank you for you help with this!! :)
Hey I was just wondering what you didn't like about the other shampoo bars from liggett? I can't find anywhere to purchase the tea tree one so I thought I'd give one of the other types a shot
Suuuper weird question, any suggestions on where to find tin/stainless steel boxes like the one you're using for the shampoo bar? Somehow I can't seem to find any
Can you do a video of what you eat in a day, doing the healthiest meals so i can cook them everyday and know that im been healthy ? Pleaseee. And can they be simple i dont mind they been boring. I want to cook healthy for my two little girls and husband that im trying for him to be plant based together . Thank youu love youu mama 😘😘😘😘
I can try to! I sometimes shy away from them because I think they encourage disordered eating but I'm open to figuring out a video format that sits well with me in the future 💛 BUT I also have a recipe eBook coming out next month (finally) with all my favourite healthy and sustainable meals + tips/tricks! I absolutely can't wait to share this little creation with the world finally & hopefully it helps a little bit! x
Have you heard of The Happy Pear? Their meals are super tasty, healthy and really easy! But they are just sooooo excited and energetic that they're a joy to watch and they really influenced my attitude toward cooking in a great way :)
For your wave spray - try adding sea salt to it :) It'll help with the texture and bounce and be more than just water. You can even add a smidge of aloe if you're feeling faaancy. I know you've had seborrheic dermatitis, so IDK if that'll be irritating, but I thought I'd share :) Love your channel, newly subbed!! LOVE the tip of EO water for no wash day refresh - I'm definitely going to try that!
Your hair is so beautiful!! It looks a lot like my daughter's so I'm excited to try some of this things, maybe make some of that flax gel and semdmit to her to try 😀😊 thanks for all the advice! Can't wait for current products to run out so I can make the transition to plastic free options 😀😀💜💜😇
I only wash my hair once every 4/5days ATM but use normal shampoo. I've ordered a shampoo bar and heard it can take a while for your hair to get used to it. Is it likely my hair will need washing Alot more often when I change over? X
I’m definitely going to go look for the conditioner at Ulta! I am having trouble finding a conditioner bar. I am also doing no fragrances so I hope it doesn’t have any. I just found your channel today and have already watched a few of them! Definitely subscribing 😊
Is the shampoo bar safe for colored hair?? I actually was wondering if you knew any all natural cruelty free brands for shampoo and conditioner for colored hair??? Lush is my go to but their shampoos have sls
I bought bar non back when you first recommended it and I would rub and rub and rub it on my hair and between my hands and nothing would come off of it. I want to love it but it hasn't done anything for me when I use it so do you have any tips on how to use it.
I've literally been trying to find hair products to use since I've started transitioning into more low waste. It's hard though because I have super oily hair and I dont really know products that work well with it🙃 even when I was using the synthetic crap! This was real helpful though! I know it'll take time to find them but aghhhhhhh

menstrual cup! my favorite is a brand from Brazil, but Lena Cup is awesome as well
Use a tshirt to dry your hair and scrunch out the excess water with a microfiber towel trust me its so much better

I was so interested to see how you get your bangs so swoopy, now I know!
💛The more encouragement for curly babes to switch to low waste options the better so THANK YOU! x
You can also use activated charcoal in your dry shampoo to make it darker
Bar None is no longer available on Ulta or Sephora...RIP! Was excited to try.
Conditioner bars sounds so interesting..
I watched your conditioner video and now the bar none is my main conditioner! I love it so much. Thank you for all the zero waste recommendations. xx
Have you tried the aluminum bottle that Ulta now offers for Bar None hydrating conditioner? If so, is it comparable to the conditioner bar? Thanks
I find that a mixture of water, ACV and tea tree oil helps keep my hair wavy.
Ecoslay Orange Marmalade is a great option if people don’t want to make their own flaxseed gel
I watched your conditioner video and went to try the Bar None one. I love it! It is the best!! I also really love the smell :) thanks for the recommendation!
ahhh I'm so glad you like it! It's definitely one of my favourite low waste finds so far! 💛
Just wondering if this is still your favorite condition bar now that its been a few months?
Kind of relevant-ish: If you haven't already, check out Rainbow Natural Remedies on 15th in Capitol Hill. I used to live down the street from it and loved it's DIY, zero waste supplies. It's a super cute small business I enjoyed supporting. Good resource if you're in the area!
i've been wanting to check that out!
Lol
I loove your videos soo much!! Please never stop posting❤❤❤
ahhhh THANK YOU!!!! It's been a wild ride, and I'm tryn'a make them forever for sure! Nothing brings me more joy than creating them and receiving comments like this. Fingers crossed! 💛 Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sending ya heaps of luv!!!
I have the same Body Shop comb! Except mine has a broken tooth, Had it for years.
I also have seborrehic dermatitis and looking for a shampoo bar. How often do you wash with it?
The travel bars are called Little Delights @ Ulta ☺️ lol
How can someone straighten your hair without heat when time is an issue?
Do you leave that powder in your hair or brush it out after it sits? I have oily hair and some dandruff and need an effective "dry shampoo" for my dark hair?
You can just freeze the flax seed gel in a icecube tray and then just defrost some each week!
I have the same scalp condition! I must dig through your channel now
Have you found a solution for a revitalizer spray for your curls?
The Bar None Conditioner
is suppose to be available through Urban Outfitters in Canada...going to the city soon to find out....only place we have one in rural Nova Scotia...
@@anikarichard4630 thank-you I will try that myself😊
What were the changes you made to your diet to help with your seborreahic (?) dermatitis? I have it as well and even using the extra strength (in the store blue bottles) doesn't seem to keep the irritation on my scalp at bay. :(
You can do a hot oil treatment which is good for damaged hair.
Can the flax seeds then be used for food, after they're strained?
The best zero waste shampoo i have tried is rye flour. So simple, but so effective. And it takes only unnecessary oils from your hair (it doesn't mean your hair looks and feels greasy tho). So yeah, i recommend to try it out and see how it works for you guys^^
How do you use it? I am a visual person so unless someone explains what they are doing I would end up taking the flower out of the container dumping it on my head then looking at it like wtfudge did i just do. Then wash it out and never touch it again. lol
oooooh! I have heard of this but haven't tried yet! Now I NEED to give it a try! THANK YOU for recommending! 💛
Park Jimin oh that sounds super easy and no big deal. How do you find it on your scalp? Do you get any flakes or dandruff?
Thank you!! x
I didn’t find a bar of theirs that worked for me, but I love their zero waste skincare, deodorants, body bars, and lotions!
I miss the way my ponytails used to look like with layers, now it looks like an uneven limpy mess when I put my hair up 😭
Hi! I wanted to let you know the bar none conditioner is priced at $12, not 6. No biggy but in case you wanted to make a note or something.
They no longer sell bar none at ulta. Does anybody know where else sells it?
I always love your hair tips! I love your hair I wish mine looked like that!
Thank you 💛
Do you know how many drops of the grapefruit seed oil we have to add to make it ? Thanks!! I can’t wait to try it!!!!
Have you tried using aloe in the place of hair gel?
What do you do with the flaxseeds once you’ve used it to make the gel?
Do you have any tips or recommendations on zero waste soaps for the body? DIY’s, body washes etc.
I love your hair videos, so glad you made this one. I meant to try the flaxseed gel after the last video you mentioned it in and totally forgot. I’m defiantly going to try it now though! I’m also going to try out the inversion method!
Thank you Elise! 💛I hope ya like the gel! It was definitely a game changer for me. Let me know if ya like it! x
How much grapefruit seed oil do you put in the flaxseed gel?
I'm wanting to know this also!
I was just starting to look into plastic free hair care! Thank you 💕💕
Hey I was just wondering what you didn't like about the other shampoo bars from liggett? I can't find anywhere to purchase the tea tree one so I thought I'd give one of the other types a shot
Suuuper weird question, any suggestions on where to find tin/stainless steel boxes like the one you're using for the shampoo bar? Somehow I can't seem to find any
Eleonora Mantovani lush has tin boxes c:
I absolutely can't wait to share this little creation with the world finally & hopefully it helps a little bit! x
@@SedonaChristina aww you are the sweetest. Make a video of the healthiest Please. And will wait for your eBook anxiously !!
Do you know the channel "The Vegan Solution"? I think it's perfect for what you need!
So thrilled about the ebook!!!
@@camilacarnevale2152 thank youu mama
Have you heard of The Happy Pear?
Their meals are super tasty, healthy and really easy!
But they are just sooooo excited and energetic that they're a joy to watch and they really influenced my attitude toward cooking in a great way :)
Can you recommend products for oily hair/skin?
I don’t understand what the hair spray is but I’m very interested? Is the hair gel some old normal gel you got at a store or it’s aloe gel? Thank you!
Where do you buy your conditioner? It is no longer listed on the Ulta website.
Where do you get the tin container that fits the shampoo bar? ♥️
I just got the bar none shampoo and conditioner! They were at the little kiosk :)
I wonder if you can use activated charcoal for black hair? I don’t like the idea of cocoa powder in my hair for some reason 😂
I've literally been trying to find hair products to use since I've started transitioning into more low waste. It's hard though because I have super oily hair and I dont really know products that work well with it🙃 even when I was using the synthetic crap! This was real helpful though! I know it'll take time to find them but aghhhhhhh
I'm late to this i know! but i was wondering if that shampoo bar gives a good lather
