She also recently started a YT channel as well. It is about theme parks and recreating some dishes from the parks, or restaurants etc. Maybe if you like, please subscribe to her channel down below👇 BelieveInTheMagic Vlogs! @@CookingwithShirani I'm really enjoying your recipes, I've done a few of them so far, fry Jack's, tortillas, meat pies, and now chicken and pork tamales 🫔. Thank you so very much. You've made me into a more confident cook, keep 'em coming!
like you said everyone makes it different. Good video however for those who had no clue of how to make this your version of belizean tamales. in the west where im from tamales is a totally different style im not sure, but what you made is what we call bollos, and tamales is a more finer and thicker part of the white masa, and not so much col. so not only is it made different in all of belize, but depending on where your from in belize they have different names too tamales and bollos.
My family is from PG and they all make it kinda the same. I've noticed the other cultures in PG makes it different also. That's interesting I've never heard anyone call it bollos.
Hello, do you by chance have written instructions? That'd be very helpful. I love your soothing, sweet voice. I have become an instant fan, I've subscribed to your channel and I made sure to give it a thumbs up on all of them. I love to hear your creole also...caz " I da fah" Belize too lol, Orange Walk specifically. We know how to cook up in the North too, Tacoville , but your versions are excellent as well. It's interesting to see how you make your Escabeche, different from ours but I'm sure it will be delish. Can't wait to try that out. Thank you so much for all your excellent recipes and the marvelous work you're doing!
You are very welcome! Aww you are so sweet and kind. Thank you so much. That means a lot to hear that. I do have the exact measurements for all my videos in the description box of each video. I don't have written instructions though. I've heard people make Escabeche different up North but I have never seen or tried it. I would love to know the difference. This da di only way I know it 😊. Thanks so much for watching. Take care 🇧🇿❤
Nothing like being about to turn off your fone for the nite and see the notification for tamales recipe from u girl. I never clicked on anything so quick in my life 🤣 I’m probably the first view 😆 I’ve always been super intimidated by making tamales but I loooove it so. This looks like I could actually do it and it might come out decent enough. Yours look delicious! And nothing like pork to make it extra tasty! Yum! 🤤 Please send me some I suddenly became very hungry 🤗
Hahaha thank you so much! Yeah I think you are my first view 😁. Good luck with your tamales making and let me know how they turn out for you. Thanks for watching ❤.
Hi Shirani, tried your recipe before and it was delectable! I’m attempting to do it again but the masa I got is yellow. Will that negatively affect the tamales?
Hello! I'm so glad to hear that, thank you 😊. No, the yellow corn won't affect the way the tamales come out. The only thing I don't like about it is the strong smell.
You are very welcome Lalita and thank you for watching also! You can buy culantro from Latin or Asian supermarkets. Have fun making your tamales and enjoy 😊
Hey, hun. A Puerto Rican fan here, married to an amazing Belizean. I want to make these for Christmas. I don’t have the real deal recado paste. I only have the powder. How much should I use? Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you soon! 🇧🇿🇵🇷🇧🇿🇵🇷🇧🇿🇵🇷
Hey there! You can use anywhere from 1 to 2 teaspoons. Start out with 1 first and see what the color looks like and be sure to taste it. If you put too much it could have a bitter taste. Good luck with your tamales and please let me know how it turns out 🙂.
Omg! So excited! Awesome job on the video. Am I able to get the corn dough at any Mexican grocery? P.s I know your mom and sister is looking down on you.
Hey I can't find the masa that's already made. Only the one from scratch should I just add water and the other seasonings 🤔 N that goya seasoning, is that how they call it in Belize too?
Yes just add water and the other seasonings. The texture will be a little different but that's just the way it is. You might need to add more water though. I'm not sure what other people call it but my family calls it sazon.
This recipe looks pretty easy and tasty. Thanks for your recipe. I give this recipe two thumbs up !! One question I have; how much lard and salt you used for the outer dough ?
Hello there o just became a subby of urs can you tell me exactly what kind of corn Masa is it for gorillas or tamales plz!; cause they are two different textures ur cull looked very smooth and Masa also thnk you my other half is beliziean from cayo but his mom will not share recipes I had to learn all the other ones I'm glad I found ur channel thnk you so much
Hi there, thank you for subscribing! I don't have a specific masa I use. I use the ones for tortillas or tamales. It doesn't matter to me because I haven't notice much of a difference. I make either one work because I never know which ones the store will have in stock. If you have any more questions feel free to ask or email me and I'll be glad to help you 😊.
The foil is not safe it's aluminum it is bad for the brain it can get in your blood stream it's dangerous . Use the husks, of your choice. P.S I definitely am going to try this recipe, I do regular Mexican American, tamales like my Mom❤️ And your tamales look so good👍

Right..like up north bollos is actually made with beans mixed in to the corn. No meat!! Belize has such a rich diverse heritage
My husbands from PG also, we might be family, lol. Montero is his grandfather and Woodye is his grandmother side of the family
@gabbydjc That's interesting, I would like to try that.
I think we are related but I'm not so sure how, I'll have to ask my dad 😊.

You should, don't wait too long 😊.
Where do you get the mass mix in the plastic wrap already made?
I purchased it from a Latin grocery store called Fiesta.
Hi Shirani
can I use real masa in place of the maseca?
Yes, I showed in the video how to use real masa.

Thank you Steph 😍. Yes you should be able to find it, if not Maseca works pretty good too. Let me know how they turn out for you.
Sorry about that the word didn't come out right tamales there we go but it's nice to see something different
No worries, I know we all make them different but they all taste good 😊. I'm curious what do you do different with yours?
Hey I can't find the masa that's already made. Only the one from scratch should I just add water and the other seasonings 🤔
N that goya seasoning, is that how they call it in Belize too?
Yes just add water and the other seasonings. The texture will be a little different but that's just the way it is. You might need to add more water though. I'm not sure what other people call it but my family calls it sazon.
@@CookingwithShirani thank you hun. Made yesterday but couldn't find any sazon. It was delicious 😋😋😋
It is similar to the one in the Philippines. They said Mexican Jesuits were the ones to introduce tamales in the Philippines.
Canyon make stewed pumpkin?
Yes, I have it on my list of things to make.
Shirani thank you. You saved my marriage... from Stann Creek :)
Oh wow 😊😁
If I use banana leafs should I cook it for an hour still?
Yes
@@CookingwithShirani Thank you. One more question what kind of lard? What brand?
The brand I used was ARMOUR. It doesn't matter though, use whichever brand you like.
This makes making tamales look easy...i might actually give it a try now...😊
You should girl 😘
This recipe looks pretty easy and tasty. Thanks for your recipe. I give this recipe two thumbs up !! One question I have; how much lard and salt you used for the outer dough ?

Thank you drinz 🤩. I glad you di tek notes gial so you could mek fi me 😘
Can I use shortening in substitute to the lard???
Yes you can. You should try lard/shortening one time and then oil the next. It gives the corn a whole different texture. I like it both ways.
Look nice😎😎😎😎😎😎
I like to cook my massa dough first. It gives softer Tamales
I never really learned how to do it that way. I like it though 😊
Never seen that
Okay that's way different cuz that's not how I make my thumb my list way way different
