Obelix slapping has to be one of the best grapples in beat-them up games.
Either that or using the enemy as a weapon. But yeah, it has the best grapples

I never knew this game existed.
My childhood was wasted.
One of the best arcade games out there back in the day and even now! Most of the asterix games were generic cookie cutter platforms from infogrames,and some on sega was a little better.The arcade game surpasses those all in every way.With the small problem that this game was hard in general.The XXL asterix games was much better than the classic ones but the arcade still tops it as a whole to be something that sticks much better in the comic genre,a freaking beat em up!

Another obscure beat-em-up game that Konami perfectly captures the spirit of its source material.
I still remember the Italian versions of both comics and movies where they made a clever pun with the acronym S.P.Q.R. and turned it into Sono Pazzi Questi Romani (They're Crazy These Romans)

Man I spent so much money at the arcades with this game. Especially against Boxer (who was their gladiator trainer in Asterix The Gladiator btw). Hated that dodging ass-hole! But man the attention to detail from the books is amazing in this game.

Probably the best Asterix & Obelix game still today (although I had a lot of fun with XXL 2: Mission Las Vegum too). The "about to die" sounds wrong in a game that's as light-hearted as the original comic, but it's really the smallest complaint to make, the Japanese team that developed the game, either they studied the comics a lot before, or had some supervisor from the French publisher.
Well, I rather have the Japanese develop all games that are licensed.
Arcade archives needs to port this on switch!

They didn’t even seem milked either, as each of them had a nice twist here and there and were very faithful to source material.
It's crazy how much talent they had in the studio man. Good lord. Even if it's just the same few people working on all these beatem up games they had it down to a fuckin science.

Very few games allow you to slap around a tiger.
It was the "no context" to the thumbnail that made me curious, the great gameplay and game made me stay.
6:59 Funny that Dubius Status is one of the tougher bosses in this game. In Asterix Versus Caesar, he was defeated twice by the Gauls - despite never even getting into a fight with them!

In comic Asterix the Gladiator he was more dangerous, he manager to avoid Obelix attacks when they first met.
He is one of the toughest Romans in the comics, he dodged Obelix's attacks and Asterix had to beat him in a cheap shot. He couldn't hurt Obelix because of the permanent potion power, but still, he managed to dodge and counter him.

Nothing funnier in this game than slapping your way through Romans, a bull, a tiger, an evil Egyptian king and an evil version of Aladdin

Well I found the enemies weakness in this game is angles. Get them in a position where they are facing away from you when you are attacking and it makes it easier to defeat them without taking damage

In the asterix comics he is a man of honour. I also think secretly he respects asterix and obelix being worthy opponents. However with politics he would be pressured to invade again. I'd say he promises not to invade in the short term
