You would get more oil out if the mower was level.
Magnets in oil sumps is a very common thing. Most cars I have owned have had them, you get them in most gearboxes. My chainsaw and lawnmower have them. They are everywhere.

There's nothing like getting a little grease in your fingernails and if you'd wash that mower and spray it down with fluid film which is made from sheep lanolin it would stop that rust and preserve that mower for a long time love your videos can't wait for mowing to start

Hi guys, all aircraft have mag plugs in the sump and some in the filters. They even have some connected to a warning system and a light flashes when a quantity of chips collects. Great video again Tom. Maintenence is the key to long life of your equipment. I couldn't help noticing that the sight tube of your fuel tank is leaking and not correctly attached. If this was to fall down it will empty the contents of the tank onto the yard. Keep up the great work.

An early oil change never did any machine any harm.
It’s not just iron filings from bearings and gears, I’ve seen sand in oil from the casting process on cast gearboxes, especially if they’re using cheap components made in China, like all companies do these days!!

Hey tom, when we close our clamp we like to put a vacuum under the plastic and you will be suprised how much air it sucks out. When you do this maybe you don’t have any waste in your clamp. You do have to seal the edges better with more tires or the best is sand. Maybe worth trying👍

Magnetic drain plugs are common in motor oil drain plugs. You can get aftermarket replacements in most any size if you look hard enough. When you have metal parts that rub together they will shed metal filings even when lubricated properly. They have them in transmission pans, transfer cases on 4x4s and differentials.

Tom I do not know what knives cost for you mower but here in the US my disk mower knives cost less than $2. So I never turn them over anymore. The corner gets rounded off when down. When you flip them that is now the top. So that missing bit makes the knife have less lift. A good tech also show me how to install the knives with the beveled side down so the top side is one smooth surface. That also makes them work better. We grow alfalfa and a good clean cut helps keep disease out of the crown. * We put magnets on the drain plugs of all our equipment. I found small round ones. I just drill a small hole in the drain plug and epoxy the magnet in.*
