I was very surprised at how many times I saw the person being thrown land on their head before landing on their side or back. I would think it is very possible to break a person's neck when they are landing directly on their head as part of the fall. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful video.
I’m a non confrontational person, and I’m not looking for trouble. However, I believe as a man, you should know how to defend yourself. Did learning Judo give you a different level of self confidence?
@@DannyBoy426 100% yes ,, you learn how to use there energy against them . i call that "bull fighting" . someone rushes at you, side step , grab the punchng wrist and throw them across the room . had some drunk clown do that in a night club. i didnt go there to fight . but i wont be a victim ether.. i also like the Muay thai fighting stye too,, but i use it open hand style.. like you are trying to diffuse the situation , if they throw a punch,, grab that wrist and throw them away like a wet towel.. if you can throw someone like that,, they wont come back to try out your punches .

Poeple may disagree, but UA-cam is indeed a very valid source of information once you got the basics down and know what you're looking for. One just needs to turn viewing into doing, and actually train the stuff he sees.
Very informative, shame a lot of these techniques are not legal in competition anymore. I have to agree it makes for more exciting Judo though! Those leg techniques were looking a lot like wrestling and the IJF wants more of the spectacular throws.
Excellent video!! I think my personal favorite techniques (in no particular ranking order) are: Koshi Guruma; Tawara Gaeshi; Sumi Gaeshi; Tani Otoshi; Yoko Guruma; Kani Basami; Soto Makikomi; and then some other modified techniques which I'm not sure how they would be classified. Tani Otoshi and Kani Basami are the only two techniques with which I ever threw my Chief Instructor, way back a long time ago.
7:32 - I realize one judoka in competition who did a "seoi-otoshi" to the big "tap out" type of judo joint lock - the classic armbar to the tap out after the seoi-otoshi. If you are a judoka expert, they all call this the "juji gatame." So if you cannot finish off the opponent after doing the "otoshi" for the ippon, do the juji gatame and you will definitely get the ippon in judo competition.
great video. I haven;t trained or competed for a long time - pity to see a lot of the throws involving leg grabs are gone in competition though. Personal favourite for me was te-guruma as a counter throw - I guess thats pretty much Sukui-nage in this video and correct me if I;m wrong would now be illegal ?
Oh yeah, I guess Morote Gari is a technique I like too. I forgot. If done correctly, it can get you into some other nice things like a "Boston Back Breaker". Or a Double Achilles Lock. Nice open shots to the groin, etc.. I first learned it in another Art, before I trained in Judo. So I would like to open Uke's arms up, give him a Double Rising Palm Strikes up under his chest (to lift him up a bit and back a bit), then move in with one of my knees inbetween his legs, then execute Morote Gari by scooping up behind both of his knees and then standing up myself. Thereby Uke would be on his back, I'm standing up straight with my arms wrapped tightly around the back of each of Uke's knees. Then I simply arch backward to raise his butt and back off the ground so that he is on his shoulder/head. Then from there, many things you can do.
"Banned" is probably the wrong word to use. A better word to use may be "prohibited" under current Judo Tournament Rules. But I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you. It is ridiculous some of the techniques that they now prohibit, versus some that they permit which are dangerous, IMO.
@John Sm I saw a video in here, quite some time ago, showing all of the techniques which are prohibited in tournaments. I believe it was by a Judo Black Belt at Jimmy Pedro's Dojo in Wakefield, MA (I believe it is located). It was very informative as well as disheartening.
@John Sm Judo has turned into "Push Me - Pull Me", Who gets the least penalty points wins, lets turn it into UFC and just tackle and wrestle around on the ground. Very sad!! IMO.
@John Sm You seemed to have gotten cut off at the end. I studied and trained in Judo, ages ago, for Self Defense, exercise, fitness, interest, and hobby NOT to enter tournaments. But the emphasis is to enter tournaments. Oh yeah, we trained in all the throws and many of different variations, even made up some of our own. Many people, including myself, brought in "principles" from other Arts, such as Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu, Kenpo, and others. The black belt instructors and a number of students would often go to seminars of other Arts. Try adding an Aikido finishing touch to an O-Soto Gari. Really nice!! I had a black belt in another Art before I started in Judo (although had done it for awhile when I was a little kid), and I brought in some different ways of doing things. Some violated Judo Rules, and pissed off Chief Instructor. Such as how I do Kani Basami and took him down with it, violates Judo Rules. But even as a white belt, there were 1, 2, or a few things that a seasoned black belt instructor (probably 35 years) would ask me to demonstrate cuz he had no idea how I did it. Not sure which of the 67 throws it might be classified under, I'd have to think about it. Not sure if it violated Judo Rules of not, no one ever said. But it works really nice, for me anyways. Oh wait! There is a variation that is often used by Judoka. So that would be a Kouchi Gari (my right foot behind uke's right heel from between legs, right?). My Left hand grabbing uke's right wrist. Now some people will take their right hand, grab the gi pants at top of knee, lay their forearm vertically across ukes' right thigh, and drive their elbow into front of uke's hip. Then execute Kouchi Gari with right foot. Well my techinique .. I don't even use my foot at all. I go in and wrap my right arm around Uke's right knee, from the front and outside, while holding his right arm with my left hand. Then jump up and barrel roll up into uke's midsection, bringing his right leg with me. Uke goes down on his back. I let go of his right arm. I'm laying on top of his mid on my back, feet to his left, head to his right. Now from my Art, and in life, I'd strike with an elbow to head, neck or upper chest, then strike with right elbow to groin. But for Judo, you can turn over and get into a side hold. So I guess it's a Kouchi Gari variation without actually doing a Gari with your foot.
