    Just a point on the foam strip, yes it stretches, but dont stretch too much as that takes some of the compresion out.....
    Also, its usually flexible and thin enough that there is no need to cut the xorners, you can just go all the way around the bend 👍

    When sealing up on waterproof surfaces, I put the bead of silicone on first and then spray a mixture of water and washing up liquid on to the bead and tool it off.
    The water and washing liquid creates a slightly greasy film that stops the silicone spreading and sticking to where you done want it, but leaves it where you have your bead. Leaves a real neat and uniform silicone line.

      Thank you! That is EXACTLY what I'll be doing when sealing the tiling and back trim on the worktop :) My father in law showed me that little trick a couple of months ago. Perhaps I should have done it sooner on this 😂

    Where can I get that foam gasket from, that goes around the underside of the sink,? I need to replace mine, as some of it is coming off. I discovered while changing the tap and am replacing the worktop 🤯

    Thank you for sharing this. You've taught me quite a bit. I'm going to be doing this type of job myself shortly. I wanted to go with a quartz countertop but I quickly learned that I have a laminate budget. Maybe I'll post my adventure but I'll leave off any dance at the end.

    Not sure why ya didn’t fit the joining strip straight away? Now you’ve got to undo it again? Or is the other worktop lose. P.s I sent an email did you get it

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  5 років тому +1

      Ah, yes, the other worktop is loose under very unusual circumstances which will be explained hopefully next week. And I'm so sorry! I've been so busy ever since Christmas, but will check my emails for it :)

    Great to see you back on the tools... new camera? what you got? A quick tip for the silicone, next time dont remove anything until the sink is completely fixed then spray it with soapy water to help remove it. soapy water stops the silicone sticking to other surfaces... also try using an old credit card to scrape the excess away. Credit card and soapy water thats the way!! looking forward to your next video!

      Actually, I haven't run properly since the pouch video as I fell ill with a really bad cold which hasn't completely gone yet. But, one of the running aids I love is the NHS' Couch to 5k programme, in a series of podcasts: www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/couch-to-5k-week-by-week/
      I completed it in 2015, but still go back to them to push me along :)

    How did you get the tap to play the music at the end? Did I miss a bit??

  • @johnross4605
    @johnross4605 5 років тому +1

    Suggestion: if you use painters masking tape on the edges of the stainless steel and your countertop you can actually push the silicone into the seam with your finger getting a secure bead evenly and smooth. And then immediately remove the tape before it skins over. All you will to clean is the tip of your finger. This practice saves a lot of waste. Plus you can play with different widths of bead to get one clean and straight and professional. Glass edged aquariums are done this way with no mess. And stainless steel can discolor with silicone

    Thank you so much for taking the time to share these incredibly instructive videos. I have watched more kitchen fitting videos than I care to count, and yours are hands down the best, as you really break the steps down and take the time to explain things very thoroughly. I plumbed in my kitchen waste and taps to the inset countertop sink today, and it is currently resting on my saw horses, whilst the silicone goes off. The only thing I am unsure about, is that the waste hole beneath the taps has a rubber washer, which I just couldn't work out properly whether it sits on the front of the sink (just visible behind the decorative waste cover) or behind the sink, where the back plastic thing that the waste pipe fastens to. I have put it on the front as it seemed to fit better, but I really don't know if that is correct? It also looks wrong 🤔The brief instructions are unclear, and UA-cam is no help with this specific issue. Other than that, things went great, and it is largely thanks to you, as I referred to how you did it for all the plumbing, sink clip fitting, applying the silicone neatly, the order to do things, and you really gave me the confidence to take it on. You are so good that plumbers may hate you lol.
    Thanks again, what you do is greatly appreciated 😀

      Glad I helped! Are you talking about the gasket? I thought mine was a bit of packaging but couldn't tell as my husband tore through the instructions 😳 If so, I feature an update at the beginning of one of these videos... I just can't remember which one 🙈

    A good thing to use to open the speed fit joints if they are tight is rubber band bottle opener . It's a rubber band on a handle and won't damage the plastic .

  • @keithbee47
    @keithbee47 5 років тому +1

    Hi Vickie, did you remember to run the flexi washing machine waste up in a loop ( there is usually a plastic former supplied with the machine) otherwise your sink waste water will run down into it. You don't necessarily have to use the former but you do need to run the flex hose up from the connection to the sink waste before it drops down to the machine.Hope you understand what I am saying.

    • @johnross4605
      @johnross4605 5 років тому

      Correct. If the washer drain hose is below the tailpipe connect, grey water and food may wash back into the washer reservoir contaminating the water and causing odor if not used often.

  • @ericcorse

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

      Thanks! I replaced the inserts with brand new ones just in case. I bought a pack of 50 (way more than needed) and thought why not in case I'd damaged any of the rubber seals. I never commented on this in case I came across as obsessive and wasteful 😂

    Just found your channel😍. DIY newbie and trying to build my kitchen. I just installed my sink like you did however made a mess of the silicone 😬. Just wondering, is there a reason you add silcone on top of the sealing strip? My instructions from Ikea actually don't say to do this and I wonder if I have made a bit of a mess by doing so..
