It seems they have the ability to make the transformation as slow and dramatic as they wish, even if they could turn Super Saiyan instantly. Trunks transformed very slowly and gradually when fighting Frieza, even though he had been a Super Saiyan for a while at that point. Probably did it to put the fear of death in him. Then Vegeta made a whole show of going Super Saiyan against #19 even though he already achieved the transformation. In his case he probably wanted to show off since it was the first time people would see him as a Super Saiyan.

So it's no surprise that many people today can draw a similar focus from this scene, and scenes like it.
This is the quintessential super saiyan transformation. It may not be the most epic or craziest one, but it encapsulates the essence of becoming a super saiyan, namely how, at this point in the series, it's a rare and difficult feat to achieve.

Actually, turning super saiyan used to burn through a lot of stamina with each transformation. That's why Goku and Gohan stayed super saiyan so often, to get rid of how taxing it was to use and maintain the form

I don't care what you say, I think this one is better than the one against Frieza, the thing that made this better in my opinion is the build up, we were told that the androids were arriving in 3 years and as soon as Goku gets there, he whips out the big gun Super Saiyan... honestly incredible considering it was only the 3rd or 4th time we had seen it.... The voice acting here is amazing too, Goku's smug voice when he says "you might think you know everything there is to know about me, but you're not even close!" and the voice acting here was actually incredible.. The scream as Goku powers up sends shivers down my spine!

just hearing the sound of the super saiyan aura makes me proud I followed the show from the start to the end back in the 90s. The transformation still had impact at this point in the show.
I like this transformation because this was the first time in the series that we saw Goku in SSJ form where he transformed willingly on the battlefield instead of it happening spontaneously and he's not all beat up with his fighting outfit torn up. He looks perfect and ready in this scene

And to the other guy... Goku was wearing the yardrat space outfit when he transformed for Trunks.

It's 2022 and now Goku has every color in the rainbow as a transformation. I miss when transformations were rare, special, and lasted a while before moving on. I miss Super Saiyan being powerful/important, now it's just another transformation
I have to wonder how much more impressive this would have been and how much more intimidated Gero and 19 would have been had Goku not been in the early stages of the heart virus at the time.

Super will never be this good. EVER. Super wants to be like DBZ, but the raw and amazing talent that this scene shows, is just way beyond anything super could ever do.
I mean I love this transformation to me it's so badass from the music the camera angles, animation everything but the transformation on Namek was one of the greatest transformations I've ever seen. I still get chills when I watch it.
What made this scene badass to me besides Goku epic transformation is seeing Tien's reaction.. once a rival of Goku who at one point was as strong as he is, realized that he'll never be on the same level as him ever again.
Something that I always noticed in this transformation was how it felt less impressive than Goku's other transformations into a Super Saiyan. There was less of an impact in it, and it didn't feel nor even look as powerful as it was when he transformed in front of Frieza and Trunks. The beads of sweat were also a dead giveaway, as well as the constant need to pump up his energy in order to induce fear in the androids, but it was a definite sign that he was struggling to maintain his power. It was an excellent way of highlighting Goku's apparent sickness.
I figured it all out! Super Saiyan 1,2,and 3 are all super saiyan extensions. Goku needed to ascend the super saiyan putting heavy strain on his body.Vegeta will probably never become a super saiyan 3 because it is extremely hard to achieve.Goku died and had to do extensive training on his body for years to pull the super saiyan 3 out.It is easy for Gotenks since he is a fusion, two people.Thereoritically if Goku were to be in Super Saiyan 3 and keep bringing that super saiyan power he's body would become a super sayain great ape. Ever notice why the ss3 resembles a great ape because he is gradually becoming a super saiyan great ape. In both forms Goku has no eyebrows.This explains why Vegeta was able to become a super saiyan great ape in GT despite not having a tail because a saiyan body will become a great ape when he drastically increases his power.So super saiyan 4 is really a golden great ape in Goku's base form, the maximum the super saiyan can reach.There is no super saiyan 5 or above
The way I see is there is only three forms of super saiyan which are 1,2,3 and 4 was like an original super saiyan transformation because of the whole ape thing and god was not real it was something the saiyans made that is what the dragon said so 1,2,3 are stages of ssj 4 is original super saiyan and god is something the saiyans made to reach god status

And he can't absorb energy either. he's not Super 17.
+UbuntuPvP that's cancelling out a keyblast with probably the same amount of ki. He just nullified the impact/explosion. Same thing happened when they traded blows and the universe was about to be destroyed

I don't care what you say, I think this one is better than the one against Frieza, the thing that made this better in my opinion is the build up, we were told that the androids were arriving in 3 years and as soon as Goku gets there, he whips out the big gun Super Saiyan... honestly incredible considering it was only the 3rd or 4th time we had seen it.... The voice acting here is amazing too, Goku's smug voice when he says "you might think you know everything there is to know about me, but you're not even close!" and the voice acting here was actually incredible.. The scream as Goku powers up sends shivers down my spine!

I like this transformation because this was the first time in the series that we saw Goku in SSJ form where he transformed willingly on the battlefield instead of it happening spontaneously and he's not all beat up with his fighting outfit torn up. He looks perfect and ready in this scene

And to the other guy... Goku was wearing the yardrat space outfit when he transformed for Trunks.

It's 2022 and now Goku has every color in the rainbow as a transformation. I miss when transformations were rare, special, and lasted a while before moving on. I miss Super Saiyan being powerful/important, now it's just another transformation
I have to wonder how much more impressive this would have been and how much more intimidated Gero and 19 would have been had Goku not been in the early stages of the heart virus at the time.
Given how Piccolo was enough to take on the Android 19 and 20 here even more so when Gero stated he was stronger than 19 which makes sense since he was a control freak. It wouldnt have been much of a fight

What made this scene badass to me besides Goku epic transformation is seeing Tien's reaction.. once a rival of Goku who at one point was as strong as he is, realized that he'll never be on the same level as him ever again.

Something that I always noticed in this transformation was how it felt less impressive than Goku's other transformations into a Super Saiyan. There was less of an impact in it, and it didn't feel nor even look as powerful as it was when he transformed in front of Frieza and Trunks. The beads of sweat were also a dead giveaway, as well as the constant need to pump up his energy in order to induce fear in the androids, but it was a definite sign that he was struggling to maintain his power. It was an excellent way of highlighting Goku's apparent sickness.

Super Saiyan 1,2,and 3 are all super saiyan extensions. Goku needed to ascend the super saiyan putting heavy strain on his body.Vegeta will probably never become a super saiyan 3 because it is extremely hard to achieve.Goku died and had to do extensive training on his body for years to pull the super saiyan 3 out.It is easy for Gotenks since he is a fusion, two people.Thereoritically if Goku were to be in Super Saiyan 3 and keep bringing that super saiyan power he's body would become a super sayain great ape. Ever notice why the ss3 resembles a great ape because he is gradually becoming a super saiyan great ape. In both forms Goku has no eyebrows.This explains why Vegeta was able to become a super saiyan great ape in GT despite not having a tail because a saiyan body will become a great ape when he drastically increases his power.So super saiyan 4 is really a golden great ape in Goku's base form, the maximum the super saiyan can reach.There is no super saiyan 5 or above

Super Saiyan God is basically the saiyan's hidden full power plus the powea of 5 or more saiyans not part of the super saiyan ascension.
The way I see is there is only three forms of super saiyan which are 1,2,3 and 4 was like an original super saiyan transformation because of the whole ape thing and god was not real it was something the saiyans made that is what the dragon said so 1,2,3 are stages of ssj 4 is original super saiyan and god is something the saiyans made to reach god status
