You are correct, Alien was a movie released by 20th Century Fox long before Disney purchased that company, was in the Great Movie Ride in Orlando. Chris was stating that a movie under the Disney brand/title (not Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Silvers Screen Partners IV, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Buena Vista Pictures) was rated R and that product was being intriduced into a Disney park.

In my opinion, Walt's goal was to create a happy place for children and families. The current company's goal is to create a return for the shareholders.
In many ways your option is correct. Aliso correct is that it’s 2024 - Not the 1960’s. People forget Walt was only alive for 40% of the Disney company’s life.
If their goal is to create a return to shareholders, their woke ideology has certainly has not allowed them to accomplish that fiduciary obligation. This new movie is a throw back to fun non-woke times. I saw it and it’s fun. Should do well. Maybe it’s time for the board to rethink its DEI virtue signaling mantra and, as you say, refocus on creating movies that provide a return to shareholders.
Unfortunately it's BlackRock and similar that are ruining Disney. Bob Iger as well who claimed to not want the position last time, and now is accepting a vote to keep him in, and now coming out as an activist. So he pretends to be passive and not use Disney to get deals for his activism but that seems false at this point. Thankfully the parks were tempered this past year vs last....but I am concerned that might not continue. We'll see if they are determined to run the parks and the brand into the ground or not. There are a LOT more people, including multi-generational fans that crave nostalgic family-oriented classic Disney, if they keep stomping on them they will see loss like never before. They already have been using funding to fund political movements in ways that should be illegal TBH. That should be reserved for personal accounts. No wonder they have struggled to pay cast members what they deserve, but they need to fund pdo parades. I'm happy that's not in the parks at this time. Hoping for the best.

In my humble opinion .... That since they bought an existing franchise ; I think that it is great that they are keeping true to it's character and story line .... This is Deadpool... he is being portrayed as he should be, and I am glad that Disney didn't censor it...... it just would not have been the same and Disney would have come under fire for censoring it. If they were going to keep Deadpool as part of the MCU making a movie that complimented the rest of the franchise was the best move they could have made. Even movies made while Disney was alive, had jokes for adults. Sure back then they were very tame, they've progressed. Toy Story has loads and I guess what I'm saying is I doubt Disney would be apart of making a Deadpool movie, but I doubt he'd be overly offended. Remember, his Disney park had a Bra store.
I rarely get into the "What would Walt think" discussions because none of us knew him personally. We only knew the image he presented on camera. I highly doubt that was who he was in real life. That said, the word has changed since 1950, and Walt aside, you can't judge 2024 from a 1950's view. For all we know, Walt would have been the first to see the money stream of appealing to adults as well as families. Plenty of parents took their kids to hear Deadpool's colorful language.
On a far more serious note; Thank you so much for standing up for the fantastic employees who make Disney special. Hope to see the same for the 75,000 employees at WDW soon. Disney employees shouldn't have to sleep in their cars.
Would love to meet them both! I met Wolverine at Universal several years ago. We saw the movie yesterday. Loved it! It could have done with a little less blood and gore, but that opening scene made the movie! If I could only meet one in Disney it would be Deadpool.

Ya that’s a tough one. You’re talking about superimposing 1950’s-60’s sensibilities on todays world. I’m pretty sure that Walt would not approve of Disney making rated R movies but I’m also sure that he never imagined that Disney would be the enormous worldwide media giant that it is today. The number of IP’s they own is staggering.
If you took basically anyone out of the 50's and brought them to the current day they would be shocked. We're more open and more direct about many things, and we also don't adhere to the rigidly-prescribed "polite" manners of the past as much.

Well, there was no such thing as streaming services back then - or anything what we have today. As I said in another comment, Walt was only alive for the first 40+ years of a company that is now 101 years old. He died during the 1960’s that was a decade of changes, most he did not see. But one thing about Walt that was always said was that he always looked forward and was an innovator and changed with the times.
Good movie for adults, call me old fashion but the cursing is a bit much. If you watch the first one your aware of what to expect. Me I’m good can’t wait to see the new movie, but my 11 year old grandson that’s up to his parents weather he watches all 3, because you gotta see 1 & 2 before this new one 😂
Hi Chris, I find it amusing, how Deadpool blends in so well at the beginning of the video, that you missed him standing in the crowd at the dance off Chris! Admittedly I would have missed him too, it’s only because were looking backwards you can see him off to stage right! As I don’t think security would allow persons walking around with swords on their back! I’m sure given Walt’s reaction to watching Psycho and his opinion of Alfred Hitchcock, describing him as a Ghastly man, Walt likely would not have approved of the R rated content. But also knowing how he was quite the trickster, he would have embraced the character, just with less violence. Maybe like Dead pool 2, making a tamed down kid friendly version, under the Disney banner, keeping Deadpool 3 under the R rated Marvel brand. You can also bet, he would have dressed as Deadpool when walking around the parks!
Am amazed, Chris that you came back so quickly from Yellowstone. Happy to see your tie walking around. Have no idea about Deadpool and Wolverines. The movie industry changes with a blink of an eye. Look at movies in the pre-coded times (after 1935 - codes are forever changed). Just depends on what time frame of human history you are living. What I don't understand is seeing Spiderman at Universal one day in CA and then Spiderman at Disney one day in CA. They are still battling the legal angle between them both. Happy Blessings !!!

Times are so very different. When I went to see Grandma and Grandpa their furniture was wrapped in plastic protective covers. They had land line phones. They walked to the stores. Grandpa chewed Chiclets. Their home was warm. Time stopped when they retired. Times are so very different.
Would Walt approve? It's an interesting question. From what I've read, I think he would have appreciated Deadpool. I don't know if he would really like everything that's developed, but for sure he is the type of person who would have appreciated Deadpool, especially given his War History. While I believe that Walt would be pushing for more original content in his parks over IP stabs, I think he would have had two minds of the show being presented. I do think that the changing times kinda leaves Walt a little flabbergasted here. The Renaissance Fair people have brought their show expertise to the floor at Disneyland, and it's becoming very clear on that, and I think it's been brought in a very positive way. It's not completely out of the question promoting more adult things at the park, although I don't have clear enough memory of the 80's anymore to remember the window promotions on Main Street (Honestly, I miss the movie dioramas they used to make). I also think that there is enough Deadpool exposure to kids from the comics, where we really don't have to worry to much about that. Ultimately, I think that Walt ends up being fine with this, but would want to push for something bigger and newer. Walt's always thinking about the next thing, not the current thing, and that's the one thing you can always count on.

I might be reiterating someone else's response because there are a lot of comments here... The day before the movie opened, the only place there was D&W merchandise was in the Guardians store where guests exit the ride. Only a few items: T-shirt Pullover & figures Maybe some pins? I got the T-shirt & pullover. It's almost 2 weeks now, so not sure if anything is left. A CM told me that store was the only place that had the merchandise. Not even Downtown Disney had anything. (CM's words, not mine) Just in case someone was lucky enough to find D&W merchandise somewhere else.

If you wish to get technical, under the Touchstone label, it was Down and Out in Beverly Hills with Nick Nolte and Bette Midler. D&W is, of course, the highest grossing R rated feature.

I think Walt will disagree with turning Deadpool into PG13, so that Disney fans can take Deadpool a chance. I think they should’ve just left it alone, and make the sequel PG13, because they will have full control then. As for reading time with Deadpool, I think it’s actually funny. If you don’t like the idea of Deadpool at the park that’s fine but don’t assume Walt wouldn’t like it because you don’t. No one can truly answer if he would approve it or not. He did like to promote movies in the parks so maybe he would have been fine with it for that reason. I honestly love that Deadpool is at DCA and sad it’s only for a limited time.

Chris, thanks for another wonderful video! I feel that DP being inside DCA/AC isn't a big issue, as DP is now part of the MCU, and his appearance isn't "out of character." However, it may be an issue if DP were to appear at DL (Walt's park), where MCU characters don't typically make appearances.
Walt always had lofty visions of the future but was also a realistic businessman. He would have understood the unsustainability of his original vision of EPCOT. He would also have learned to adapt to social media and changing values. I honestly believe he would have been fine with appearances of Deadpool on the DCA campus, which was designed to be more adult-oriented from the get go anyway. Were he alive and in his prime, I think the movies would be much better than they are currently. He would have understood the need for wider audience appeal better than the current film makers.

Would love to meet them both! I met Wolverine at Universal several years ago. We saw the movie yesterday. Loved it! It could have done with a little less blood and gore, but that opening scene made the movie! If I could only meet one in Disney it would be Deadpool.

Ya that’s a tough one. You’re talking about superimposing 1950’s-60’s sensibilities on todays world. I’m pretty sure that Walt would not approve of Disney making rated R movies but I’m also sure that he never imagined that Disney would be the enormous worldwide media giant that it is today. The number of IP’s they own is staggering.
If you took basically anyone out of the 50's and brought them to the current day they would be shocked. We're more open and more direct about many things, and we also don't adhere to the rigidly-prescribed "polite" manners of the past as much.

My shock happened when I saw Deadpool thumbnail appear on Disney+ and wondered the same re Walt's thoughts (often wonder what he thinks about many recent Disney decisions). And yes! If any CMs read this, we love you and thank you for keeping the magic alive. ❤
Well, there was no such thing as streaming services back then - or anything what we have today. As I said in another comment, Walt was only alive for the first 40+ years of a company that is now 101 years old. He died during the 1960’s that was a decade of changes, most he did not see. But one thing about Walt that was always said was that he always looked forward and was an innovator and changed with the times.

Good movie for adults, call me old fashion but the cursing is a bit much. If you watch the first one your aware of what to expect. Me I’m good can’t wait to see the new movie, but my 11 year old grandson that’s up to his parents weather he watches all 3, because you gotta see 1 & 2 before this new one 😂

I’m sure given Walt’s reaction to watching Psycho and his opinion of Alfred Hitchcock, describing him as a Ghastly man, Walt likely would not have approved of the R rated content.
But also knowing how he was quite the trickster, he would have embraced the character, just with less violence. Maybe like Dead pool 2, making a tamed down kid friendly version, under the Disney banner, keeping Deadpool 3 under the R rated Marvel brand.
You can also bet, he would have dressed as Deadpool when walking around the parks!
Am amazed, Chris that you came back so quickly from Yellowstone. Happy to see your tie walking around. Have no idea about Deadpool and Wolverines. The movie industry changes with a blink of an eye. Look at movies in the pre-coded times (after 1935 - codes are forever changed). Just depends on what time frame of human history you are living. What I don't understand is seeing Spiderman at Universal one day in CA and then Spiderman at Disney one day in CA. They are still battling the legal angle between them both. Happy Blessings !!!

Times are so very different. When I went to see Grandma and Grandpa their furniture was wrapped in plastic protective covers. They had land line phones. They walked to the stores. Grandpa chewed Chiclets. Their home was warm. Time stopped when they retired. Times are so very different.

From what I've read, I think he would have appreciated Deadpool. I don't know if he would really like everything that's developed, but for sure he is the type of person who would have appreciated Deadpool, especially given his War History. While I believe that Walt would be pushing for more original content in his parks over IP stabs, I think he would have had two minds of the show being presented. I do think that the changing times kinda leaves Walt a little flabbergasted here. The Renaissance Fair people have brought their show expertise to the floor at Disneyland, and it's becoming very clear on that, and I think it's been brought in a very positive way.
It's not completely out of the question promoting more adult things at the park, although I don't have clear enough memory of the 80's anymore to remember the window promotions on Main Street (Honestly, I miss the movie dioramas they used to make). I also think that there is enough Deadpool exposure to kids from the comics, where we really don't have to worry to much about that.
Ultimately, I think that Walt ends up being fine with this, but would want to push for something bigger and newer. Walt's always thinking about the next thing, not the current thing, and that's the one thing you can always count on.
Walt was wise enough to know that times move on and change, and he would expect this to continue.

The day before the movie opened, the only place there was D&W merchandise was in the Guardians store where guests exit the ride.
Only a few items:

It's almost 2 weeks now, so not sure if anything is left.
A CM told me that store was the only place that had the merchandise. Not even Downtown Disney had anything. (CM's words, not mine) Just in case someone was lucky enough to find D&W merchandise somewhere else.

D&W is, of course, the highest grossing R rated feature.

I think Walt will disagree with turning Deadpool into PG13, so that Disney fans can take Deadpool a chance. I think they should’ve just left it alone, and make the sequel PG13, because they will have full control then.
As for reading time with Deadpool, I think it’s actually funny. I’m surprise that they even let Deadpool make that adult humor, if you know, you know, I know. I also think, that entire Deadpool event is just a parodied of if you know, I know, you know.

No one can truly answer if he would approve it or not. He did like to promote movies in the parks so maybe he would have been fine with it for that reason.

The Disney company has even released XXX rated movies (and still does). This is what a lot of people DON'T know.
Times have changed. And younger kids are watching movies like Deadpool. So as long as their parents ok them seeing it I have no problem. And I do think Walt would agree.
Chris, thanks for another wonderful video! I feel that DP being inside DCA/AC isn't a big issue, as DP is now part of the MCU, and his appearance isn't "out of character." However, it may be an issue if DP were to appear at DL (Walt's park), where MCU characters don't typically make appearances.
I think Walt would have loved Deadpool, he's popular and makes money for Disney. Plus he smokes cigarettes just like Walt ! 😎

Walt always had lofty visions of the future but was also a realistic businessman. He would have understood the unsustainability of his original vision of EPCOT. He would also have learned to adapt to social media and changing values. I honestly believe he would have been fine with appearances of Deadpool on the DCA campus, which was designed to be more adult-oriented from the get go anyway. Were he alive and in his prime, I think the movies would be much better than they are currently. He would have understood the need for wider audience appeal better than the current film makers.
