I bought a pathfinder about 16 years ago, travelled the Asian subcontinent used EVERY feature on the watch . It went through a serious motorbike crash (without a scratch on the watch) . Compass was vital . It was easily the best watch I ever owned and I'm just about to buy one of these thanks to your review .
I do a lot of biking, sometimes I camp out and stay out for a few days to hit long trails, mountain areas, etc. This watch is absolutely perfect for compass headings, altitude readings, and weather forecasting. Fits what I need well. I'm glad I own one.
AAA+++++ Review, I Congratulate You on a most Wonderful Job on this Video REVIEW. You took enough time to describe each Important Feature I'm IMPRESSED, most ship items or spend 3 sec. to show them. Did I mention what an AWESOME Job you did. Thank You, Steven
Excellent video! Just what I needed to see in order to make up my mind. I just bought the regular version on Amazon for $140 I can’t wait to get it tomorrow 👍
Superb watch. Got mines about a month ago and thus far no complaints and I collect watches. Owned the pathfinder before, the Protrek was stepping it up a notch or two.
Nice job; awesome quality. Two quick things: a) The barometric pressure inside your office is the same as outside, unless your building is hermetically sealed. b) Unless you're very close to the time station in Colorado, you will not get reception during the day. At night, atmospheric conditions are more favorable, allowing the radio waves the bounce off the ionosphere and get to you. Put the watch near a west-facing window between 12 and 5 AM. North or south-facing would also probably work.
I wonder if Casio in the future will add more functions, for instance expand the barometer function with like a storm alarm, similar to the Suunto Core, and perhaps a depth meter. Because it seems the only innovation so far in terms of new functions are like sunrise/sunset or the moon phase/tide graph.. Nevertheless sweet watch and review.
Great review. Just bought mine at a great price. If you have trouble with the wrist band pins falling out just take the watch to a clock/watch repair guy/gal. They will install perfect fitting pins and adjust the watch band for $10.00.
unless you live on the space sattion the pressure inside is equal than outside, the readout +10-10 is a diferential pressure gauge so it always will start on zero. you can use that for cheking a trend .
The way to get an excellent WWV atomic sync time signal on these watches are to lay them face down or face up when you leave them at night. The manual shows you should face them towards a window on their side, with the watch facing the window, but this is wrong. Put your watch on its face straight down, or with its face straight up, and you'll get an L3 signal no problem. I live 1000 miles from Fort Collins and only 100 yards from high voltage distribution lines, and if I do this, I can get an L3 signal every time the first time around at 12am. Also, it has to be night time... 3am is probably your strongest time to get a long wave signal. Note that the signal strength meter will update every few seconds in real time, so you can start the sync mode and watch the strength meter as you move the watch, change from blank/L1/L2/L3 to test this and find a good spot in your home. Really, the spot matters less, than having the antenna on the inside on the same plane as the ground. So have the flat back of your watch parrallel/on the same plane as the ground for best results.
Being inside or outside does NOT affect your barometric pressure! Not unless you are in an o-ring sealed pressure chamber. Nothing magic about going outside. Barometer should be the same..that's why it's so neat. Good review of the watch though. Caveat..if you take your barometer to the 10th floor it's going to go down so altitude will affect it. But not being inside or outside.
very helpful review...thanks...all the functions of this watch is useful to a ship navigator...compass for directions...barometer to know low and high pressure areas...plus thermometer to determine possibility of precipitation...moon and tide graph to know water level of ports and estuaries...
Bought one, waiting for delivery. The only thing i will never like about those watches is that in 2012 we still have the feeling of a 1990 watch. Everything is black and white, apart from the blue tidal screen and the green barometer one. I really think for that price we could have something way more "nextgen".
It is not a GPS but shows the tide for the city you select but obviously my city isnt on it so I set the tide to my specific location. Didnt hav2 do anything to the compass. Good watch !
No one has commented on the race countdown, so here's some more detail. You can set the sequence to 10 minute, 5 minute, 4 minute, etc... The watch beeps each minute until the last ten seconds.
I would like to add that this watch scratches really easy on the bezel. I have a tag and a tissot t-touch and this watch compared to these two scratches really easily which is a shame.
2-20-21 I should get mine in 2 days. I can't wait. With watch has it all. I wish Casio would put the version 3 sensors in it. It would be the best of the best.
We are talking about the next generation here, so IMO buying something that still clings on to obsolete hardware would be a mistake. The accuracy is on par with the legendary Suunto adventure watches. I recommend that you check the Casio website for more detailed information. For instance, we are mainly talking about increased efficiency in terms of battery/power supply performance, an example would be the 1 min compass duration which is impressive for a solar-based watch. Thanks.
Hi. I am in the parachute regiment and I like the features on this watch. My question is, is it rugged enough to handle training, combat, war zones where the temperature varies from extreme heat to extreme cold (high altitude terrain) like in Afghanistan and the likes? I would be fitting a NATO strap, as they are stronger than any bracelet with links. Or would I be better off getting something else? Thanks.
Not unless you can lock on the altitude, which only a Suunto can so far, maybe PRW3000 too will be able to. Due to dynamic weather change most of these watches needs constant calibration before use. Baro/Alti uses the same pressure based sensor.
Nice watch, if I had any money I would definately buy it! There's just one minor thing that bugs me. Would it be too much trouble to add a 24 hour countdown timer, as opposed to 1 hour? I know it's nitpicking, but i just like it when the watch 100 % perfect, this one is pretty close though...
Hello, nice vid, and excellent review!, i got the PRG 130 1V, which are the different functions between both apart from the construction, i mean witch functions was added in this model ? thanks!
Cheers I did get this watch. The all plastic model would have suited me fine as I never take my watch off & they end up getting scratched anyway but still I figured I`d get this 1. Absolutely no complaints.
Ok how much more accurate is the upgraded version 3 sensor than the Version 2 ? You seem to be the watch expert here but I doubt I will base my descision on minor little upgraded differences so rather, What are the negatives of this watch ?
tariqwahl from what I know of military life.. I think you can live without the moon and tide information so I would suggest looking at a g shock riseman with a button compass on the strap, or you could purchase both I am just waiting on the 2500t to be delivered good luck with your decision.
I own the same watch just the rubber band version but my altimeter is always wrong. I live in Miami fl and work in construction so i keep adjusting it to our construction bench mark elevations and the next day the watch shows that i am -200FT+. Does anyone knows how to fix this?
you need to adjust altimeter measurement using your current barometer (air pressure) . As altimeter uses air-pressure to measure heights, not your current position like GPS
Checkout the Casio 1300 Pathfinder models. They have most of the same functions but in a much slimmer and smaller package for you guys with girly sized wrists.
On this module you can, but it shuts off after 3 or 1 sec depending on setting. For serious navigation it's ideal and more reliable with an analogue "glow-in-the-dark" wristband/strap or normal compass.
I ended up getting this watch, but after adjusting the band by removing links, the pins now just fall completely freely out of the band, both on the links I removed and the pin I put back in the watch. Why have the pins become completely free and loose since adjusting? I can't wear it now that I've got the size right.
aabsc unforgettably this watch was reviewed years ago and the reviewer is no longer with Watchreport. Is it a pin and collar system? Was there a little tube/collar around the pin when you sized it? Might be why they are loose if you put the pin in without the collar.
After searching around I found there were tiny collars I had no idea were there so I lost all 6 of them. Luckily, after reading about their existence, I searched my floor very carefully and was able to find 2 of the 6 I lost, just enough to fix the bracelet, but leaving my 4 extra links unusable unless I find more of those tiny collars on the floor.
Thanx I had a look at the 3000 but this 1 just suits me more, having the tide graph & moon phase which I`ll find very useful. A pity this 1 doesnt have the more accurate version 3 sensor but I guess itll be a few years before that happens lol
You have to take PRX-2500T-7J suite of this modelif you want to have fully titanium device (called MANSALU series). I havd to buy Mansalu model 'cause of my strong allergic reaction to other metals, only titanium band, case and back works good for me.
I don't think that's it. I think they're trying to keep them so they still fit on a Japanese-sized wrist. This one is already 51mm across and 15mm thick. Add a few more features, and what would it become?
AWESOME watch!!!!! The case on mine is Aluminum cast. (This depends on the model. Mine is PRW 2500t-7jf) And the band Titanium. I love the auto EL light. The watch has all you'll need. Even 200m(660ft) water resist. NICE!
I'm surprised no one is mentioning the dim display. I bought the Pro Trek Model: PRW-2500R-1CR and it has a dim display just like this. For me it is unusable this way.
I have Rolex and Tag and this watch.. this is the best watch out of them all.. Rolex and Tag are nothing but a dressing watch.. to show off..but if you want to have watch that counts, buy this..
Also consider the Casio G-Shock GW-9400, this is a cheaper version of the ProTech line. It has triple sensor, solar and multiband 6. A cheaper alternative to high end ProTechs,
Thanx for all this info i have one question pls i bought this watch in this video and i noted that when i wear it the thermometer gives not correct temperature degrees so what i mean if i didnt wear it it give correct temperature of the room but when i wear it it gived higher like more 10 degrees i think from body temperature so is it normal ????? i hope i get answer soon pls
+Laith Alhadrawi it is usually made in Thailand but the parts came from Japan. Just look at the back of the watch and you will find the answer to your question
I really would like to get this Casio Pro Trek 2500T. How much did you pay for it, if you don't mind me asking? Where can get one at a good price? Please get back to me when you can. Thank You. Great video.
I’m here 10 years later just bought this same watch. Can’t wait to use it
This watch is arguably the best protrek they ever made, and still has a decent following today in 2022
The PRW-7000 is the best one they made and the only one with a proper compass.
2024 here! Still rockin it
@@forcedriven9328finally found one in super good shape. It's the green with camouflage band. Can't wait to get it

Well said
Looks like it’s catching a signal on a ground antenna rather than a satellite.
@@bengrizzlyadams6187 it does! No satellites are involved in radio controlled watches, just GPS watches need satellites

what if you're in the basement and the heater is on?
I'm selling all my other watches and I'm gonna get this one. This watch is so awesome. Thanks for the review! You have done a great job! :)

very helpful review...thanks...all the functions of this watch is useful to a ship navigator...compass for directions...barometer to know low and high pressure areas...plus thermometer to determine possibility of precipitation...moon and tide graph to know water level of ports and estuaries...
Great review! I like how you covered everything, but it wasn't mundane and boring. Thanks!! I am definitely considering getting this watch!
It's not full titanium! It's a titanium coloured resin case, only the bracelet is of titanium. Good review other than that 👍
Thanks for the comprehensive review - you did a fantastic job! Really helped me solidify my decision to make the purchase. Thanks again!
The band is titanium, the case is resin with a finish that looks titanium
love your watch reports James! Keep up the good work!
This is by far the best review, very helpful, thank you!
I believe you can adjust light illumination time for up to 3 seconds, I own the PRW- 5000y1 and its able to adjust from 1 second light time to 3.
Is it possible to read the sun set and rise time on this watch ? thanks for the answer.
Great review for a great watch. Just got mine a week ago, had to remove 4x links to get it to fit, best Casio I've ever owned :-)

is it really a titanium housing? on the casio homepage stands that it's made out of resin.
Beautiful watch, thanks for the review. I just ordered the prw2500b-3cr (camouflage with canvas band) I do a lot of hiking and seemed like a good fit.
It is not a GPS but shows the tide for the city you select but obviously my city isnt on it so I set the tide to my specific location. Didnt hav2 do anything to the compass. Good watch !

Hi! Great review. When did this model came out for the market? Thank you!
How can you possibly think there could be a pressure differential between indoors & outside? That's incredible even for UA-cam.
negative - pressure clean rooms , like the kind where they make watches like this
I would like to add that this watch scratches really easy on the bezel. I have a tag and a tissot t-touch and this watch compared to these two scratches really easily which is a shame.
sounessmay17 would the PRW 3100 be a better choice... for a better resistance?
Clear nail polish on the bezel should fix that. (Don't use pink nail Polish unless you want to)
