Saw him on the Last in Line tour in Alaska. Jumped a fence at the radio station to meet Vivian and Dio. Two of the nicest guys a fan could ever meet....

Vivian Campbell is that special kind of guitarist that fits in wherever he is!!!! He has that kind of style that is rooted more into the D.N.A. of the late Gary Moore (rock period) than say with his now sparing partner Phil Collen who has more of a U.S.A flavour in his playing which means everything they do together has everything covered,& now Vivian has moved back too Gibson Les Paul's he is now home again as these work for him (Phil Collen is the perfect guy for the Floyd Rose super strat!!!!!) & let's not forget that Vivian can sing too which in Def Leppard is a must!!!!! But it is impossible too say which Vivian era is the best seeing as he has been around so long & although he was amazing as a young guy,now he is older he has matured & writes music which as a young man wouldn't have been in him!!!!!!!!!! I love the work of the late Steve Clark,but Vivian fits perfectly in Def Leppard even though he is closer too Phil Collen's fire power,but because of his slightly different style it blends!!!!!!
Had the pleasure of meeting Viv & Jimmy Bain at a local club when they were on tour with Dio. They were with their body guard the flying Hawaiian Kimo all great guys gave me tickets & passes to their show the following night.
Viv is the Shit!! His Dio days were epic, and Def couldn't have picked a better replacement. And while I'm still mad about Sykes' outing, he was a Fab replacement for him on the road with Whitesnake.

In my opinion nothing tops his work on holy diver with Dio what are incredible album. Straight through the heart, invisible, holy diver incredible guitar playing. Great rifts in the rock and roll community. In my opinion he's a lot greater than a lot of the other more famous guitarists than he was... I'm old and to this day I still jam holy diver album as loud as I want all the time.. The reason Viv was fired from Dio was bcuz the band agreed to take a salary from Dio, bcuz he was broke, and they agreed w/ Ronnie on future royalties/ownership of the Dio band name w/ Ron on a handshake deal and when Ron went to Wendy after the 1st two albums to give them that, she refused. They never got a raise for Sacred Heart so he was done at that point
I get hang out with him when he plays with Last in Line (the band) with Vinny Appice, Phil Sausson, and Andrew Freeman. I do some promoting for them. He's always been super cool. He autographed everything I have with him on it. Two items, he's signed twice! Hoping they'll recommit to a canceled show sometime next year after his latest tour with Def Leppard.

Viv can’t play certain songs in their catalog! He has admitted on Def Leppard’s own behind the tour videos that he can’t! It’s just showing that Def Leppard doesn’t care about the music nor giving the fans an honest show by not playing those songs!
Yeah, from what I remember, the only recorded work Vivian did with Whitesnake was a guitar solo for the remixed single version of Give Me All Your Love. He didn't do anything on the 1987 album though.

Adrian wasn't on the level of Vivian and nowhere near the same realm as Sykes, so he was totally content just being a hired gun. Coverdale apparently didn't have the musical fortitude to recognize the blessing of Sykes, so he lost out on multiple bigtime albums that they could have made until grunge hit. Vivan has always seemed to be a genuine guy. Glad he landed with Def Leppard.. he fits in great there

IMO Vivian belongs in Dio. The folks in the Dio camp learned very early that getting rid of a great songwriter/lead guitar player is a very risky move that could hurt the entire project. Similar to getting rid of the lead singer/songwriter. Over and over again I see the same problem and it takes years, if not decades to recover.

I’ve never once gone to a show, hoping to see lasers, fire , dragons, chrome spiders, insane amounts of lightning. I’ve always gone to just see the band members getting into what they play. Now large screens so people can see them in the balcony, that’s the only great addition to a show. That people way far back have a chance of taking a picture of their favorite bands. Putting the bands money into a stage and not increasing your band members pay is having your priorities backwards. Sounds like something a democrat would do. Talking care of illegals over Americans.

The only time I saw Viv was with Dio when they opened up for Aerosmith on the first tour. Left the show when they went off and bolted to Tower Records to be first in line for thier meet-n-greet. It was awesome. Always loved his style. Very original. Didn't even consider him with Whitesnake. And I HATE Leppard past Pyromania. Never listened to a single album since then. Just too sugar pop. They made alotta money though. Saw 2 Last In Line shows and it seemed like he was just getting his wheels back under him. Pretty good effort but not outstanding. He did not get the gig, he lost it to Jake E Lee who was Dio's first choice. Craig's bands were produced by Dio and managed by Wendy. He is also the reason Ronnie and Wendy divorced. Ronnie fired him for fucking his wife, and as we all have seen, since Ronnie died, Goldy is out there playing in Wendy's Dio tribute bands.

Much like the Blizzard of Ozz turning into Ozzy the solo artist, Dio was a band before Wendy made it a Dio solo project. Also Craig Goldy was a problem also. He did not get the gig, he lost it to Jake E Lee who was Dio's first choice. Craig's bands were produced by Dio and managed by Wendy. He is also the reason Ronnie and Wendy divorced. Ronnie fired him for fucking his wife, and as we all have seen, since Ronnie died, Goldy is out there playing in Wendy's Dio tribute bands.

Ronnie is the one that made that handshake agreement when the band was formed that they band members would get more money with the third album! Wendy is the one that screwed the band over! It ultimately lead to her & Ronnie splitting as a couple for a while!
If you noticed in interviews that Viv has done, he admits to reconciling with Ronnie & Wendy when he learned the truth! The side project Viv does, Holy Diver was put together with Wendy’s blessing & help! It started out as the original Dio band paying tribute to Ronnie!
