NYC unveils new trash collection tech for the first time since 1930's | NBC new York

- Starting this fall, New York City will roll out a program that requires small buildings with less than nine units to put their trash in assigned wheelie bins.
Larger buildings with more than 31 units will use the new European-style on-street containers and these will be serviced by the new automated sideloading trucks, but the new technology paraded by city officials on Thursday won't be put to use until 2025.

@@opiumfxevery single city in Spain, even in small towns and villages where they basically share one truck between different villages. This also a thing in The Netherlands if I'm not wrong, and a lot of other places in Europe...

Exactly, What happens when these containers get filled up with the load of trash ?
Only if the collection dates are not regular.
It gets full very fast and probably construction debris will be thrown more easy
I'm 41 and can't remember the last time I saw a garbage truck that DiDNT do this lol....they still put bags on the street like that? 😂

Dumpster aren't a new invention and the same "issue" would be the same with any trash bag out their.
the issue WOULDN’T be the same. 1) there would be lots more dumpsters and 2) in a dumpster they could be laying undetected on top on trashbags, not inside a trashbag.

What took them so long?
I believe its because it will eat up a ton of parking space for cars and people do not like that idea.
Curious why they are piloting the other trash tech that is out there. Trashcans or dumpsters that are underground.
This way the trash truck pulls out the dumpster and just releases it like dust from a self contained vacuum (with a bottom that releases)
These are way better, keep the trash out of the elements and keeps most pests out. Including trying to get certain types of items that are too big. Like a human body from being dumped inside
These underground dumpsters even are computer measured. So if it gets too full they can dispatch a truck to pick it up
Seems like this is a halfway between good and bad. Making this solve 'just enough'
They need better funding for the Sanitary Department
WTF!🤣In Spain we have those since the 80's, there even are thrash cans and collectors underground, also trucks here are from the 21st century not the 20th, come on! I thought the USA and New York were living in 2024 not 1984 😂🤣

I have seen these on videos of trucks similar to these in Canada' s Sanitation Department. 🚚

I hate that they talk as if they came up with some type of new inventions or innovation. I don’t know if New York realizes but myself and many other Americans have seen a side loading trash truck out entire lives. the only difference is I think New York has figured out how to monopolize the situation instead of a company winning a contract

New York is about 100 years behind. I had no idea that New York was living like that. Every city across the country has city provided Dumpsters and Trash Cans. It took a Black man to clean up the Filth.
Great. Elimination of more parking space for these 🗑️ containers. I guess for the sanitation, you don't need two people per-truck anymore..guess what that means ,✂️
Normally in other countries each apartment has its own smaller bin on wheels stored not on the side of the street but beside the building. Only brought out on day of collection. Other busy cities can make it work.

Great to see NYC learning from other countries. Hope they actually keep this program and doesn't just be a 1-2 month thing.
I guess its good they tried, but there are much better systems than this in Europe. Look at Amsterdam's trash system. This is rinky dink in comparison. Maybe this was more cost effective.

How can a big city like New York not have weekly trash collections then wonder why they have rats!? Every city has had this for years. Now watch the rats start entering homes without trash bags left on the streets at night to eat from ..

How good are Americans at recycling ♻️? Sweden 🇸🇪 actually buys garbage from other countries because the citizens are so good at recycling that there aren’t enough waste….
