Sermonizin' was quite popular, as we've seen, in contemporary music of this day. Perhaps since there were those who were certain that all who played or enjoyed jazz were going to hell, this type of number represented fighting fire with fire. The joyous reeds, mirthfully mocking trio and faux somber coda make this treatment of one of Sam Coslow's best tunes a real winner.
