Just a couple of tips, get some cans of CRC or WD40 to spray those nuts before you try and undo them. Also you need proper impact sockets for that tool, normal sockets may just split under the load . Enjoying the series 👍
I was using PlusGas but ran out of it so I'll find some WD40 when im down the railway next, glad you're enjoying the series!
It'd marvellous what can be achieved with the right tools! If only there had been battery impact wrenches in the days when I mended my own cars!
Haha I couldn’t imagine doing some of that work by hand 😂 praise the lord for power tools!
Looks like a unique experience for the enthusiast👍
100%!
Hey Ollie, another great instalment, the impact wrench is an amazing piece of kit and a tremendous aid to you. looking forward to the next episode. Take care and stay safe :) :) :)
Yeh it’s been a life saver having the impact wrench! All the best Colin 🙂👍
Bravo Ollie, you're freight trains coming together nicely. You wouldn't think that there was so much underneath for you to put back together again. Great stuff. All the best.
I didn’t realise how much stuff there was under there but now I know 😆 it’s reassembling it that will be the difficult task but will give it my best shot!
Getting to enjoy the fun of working under rolling stock Ollie. Used to do loco maintenance for a living years ago and spent many an hour crawling around the pits.
With the bolts and pins that won't move try giving them a good spray with wd40 or something like it. Wait a while and try again. If that don't work may have to get serious and use some heat. Wear gloves and remember those bits stay hot for a while.
Yeh maybe next time we may have to get the blowtorch out! I’m hoping I can get them all shifted to save time later on down the line when it comes to reassembling the brake mechanism
Enjoying this brake van series. Great job. Just one thing, I hope there is a UA-cam video to help you put all the brake components back together? lol
You have a couple of episodes left to catch up on, I have started the reassembly! I'm fortunate that the railway has another BR brake van with the same brake rigging!
Impact wrench is the way forward, but not sweaty hands. My 40th birthday is two weeks away, and I've got a much better way of celebrating. Nothing says happy birthday to me better than a Llangollen Railway train ride.😀🚂🚃🛤
Fantastic stuff!
Thank you Stan!
Wonderful video Wardle Road
Glad you enjoyed it
I suggest you buy a long breaker bar. Not expensive. This is for loosening severely tight nuts and saves damage and wear to ratchets or your impact gun. Even consider a 3/4 bar and some sockets to go with it. Soak rusted nuts with diesel or wd40 helps a lot too
Yeh after the video I got a couple more to move but a couple are still completely stuck so will have to try the WD40 next time I’m at the railway!
@@WardleRestorations giving the head of the bolt a good "love tap" with a hefty hammer does wonders to break the rust seal too. It's surprising. You are doing a great job, and hopefully feeling we are all trying to give help and advice from the comments here. Regards Gary
Yeh I do appreciate all the tips / advice from everyone, always useful to find out other ways to do various tasks!
Hi Ollie, great up date, I suggest a purchase of impact sockets (normally black in colour) as normal sockets tend to spilt or shatter in use.
Yeh I need to buy a set! Glad you enjoyed the video mate!
Nice one, love it, short and sweet, great to see you sort out those seized Parts, wont be long till you somehow get yourself another wagon haha
Glad you enjoyed the episode, 2 wagons is more than enough work for now haha
You might want to get a deeper socket so your fully engaging the castle nuts and not just ridding the top of those, the castellations can crack off
It would fit on there if it wasn't for the rust. Now the rust has been removed, it fits on fine but cheers for the tip
Lovely video there mate! We always make good use of the rattle gun for that kind of stuff at ALRS Rowsley. Also the intro to the ad was very well edited. Keep it up!
Cheers for the tip, and glad you like the ad dude, I enjoyed putting it together 😂
Nice video Ollie, another very enjoyable watch. Amazing you can now get impact wrenches now battery powered and not only by compressed air.
Regards, Matt
Hi Matt, glad you enjoyed the episode, yeh battery tools are the way forward!
Nice video Ollie. Yeah, that was good of the folks at Machine Mart and Clarke for the Hammer Drill Set! The piece certainly came in handy on that undercroft of the Brake Van. I've worked on such seized areas before the Power-Tool Revolution, as it were, and I could've done with a decent, handy hammer drill. There were the Pneumatic ones but on site, a compressor was a lump to move about! I dare say that a soaking with the old 'releasing/penetrating fluid' on the seized areas helps, but much done without it. The socket would be less prone to slip too. Great progress, and the van blocking in the Brake Van fine there. Quite a day, sore neck with the reaching up from the pit there? All the best with the Vans Ollie. Keep Safe. Cheers!
Was a couple of long days and the hot weather didn’t help but lucky it was a tad cooler in the pit! Glad you enjoyed tough dude!
@@WardleRestorations Good on ya! I checked out the Machine Mart link...Not much change out of £150 for the Impact Drill set. Nice one.
Its awesome to see the cars finally together at last! Is the box van’s brakes working well? How does it feel seeing them together??
Yeh mate over the moon to have them together but still plenty of work to be getting on with!
Looks like someone is having a whale of a time. Hope it hasn't been too hot down there for you o do the work required.
Cheers
Steve
It’s been insanely hot! However it’s a tad cooler in the pit so kinda worked out ok😂
Great video mate 👍🏻
Cheers mate!
Before you fit the bolts back put anti-seize on them better in the future then
I'll have a look for a product like that, I'm hoping that using them enough will mean they won't seize up again!
Great video, I would love my own coach or wagon
Ha yes, it’s a dream come true!
@@WardleRestorations I know
Heat those pins housings then gently use a punch and drive the pins
Tried that, didn’t work! And we used A LOT of heat 😂
@@WardleRestorations can't stick if it's liquid melt them out with oxy
Love watching but health and safety mate. Wear a safety helmet when working under your wagons.
Waiting for a bump cap, my work helmet would hit things more than my head would 😂
I've never seen anyone wearing a safety helmet when working in the pits and that's when they're under steam locos which seems far more dangerous than a brakevan.
For this instance like I said, a full on helmet would have just got in the way!
@@WardleRestorations yeah i was agreeing with you I just worded it weirdly 👍
Haha I know dude no worries 😆
Still waiting for HST diaries lol 🤣
Ha, I don't have that sort of money sadly!
😎😎😎😎😎👍
