Dude same!! I recently got back into New Leaf after playing New Horizons for the past 3 years, and when I tell you that was a different AC experience… it was DIFFERENT. In all the best ways :-) So happy the ACNL community never died, now I just need more people to take their 2DS/3DS out so I can get more Streetpasses
Yeah New Leaf is just as good as I remembered it! I love that the community is still there and still thriving (I didn't want to say "alive" again lol) Oh my god I miss Streetpass so much. You just brought back so many memories lol!
dude, I was so surprised to see that this video only has around 50 views and that you somehow only have 400 subscribers. This is so good! I love your art and editing style, this was actually such a treat to watch. I hope you gain more traction cause you 100% deserve it. Keep up the great content! :D
Thank you for the kind comment! This video took a long time to make, but I feel it was worth it. It was so much fun to edit. Thank you for the encouragement I’ll do my best!
For my birthday next week I’m getting a 3DS from my best friend and I’m gonna play New Leaf for the first time. I’m sad I managed to get there when the online services had already been shut down, but I guess I’ll probably enjoy the experience anyway even without that. Thanks for this video, is the first I’ve ever seen from you and I really liked it 💗
The 3DS has some amazing games and lots and LOTS of hidden gems! It one of my favorite consoles of all time so I’m so happy to hear you’re getting one soon. It’s a shame the servers are down, but maybe you can do local multiplayer one day (if that’s still around I’m not sure). I played the game mostly offline my whole life and it’s a great time either way so I hope you’ll still have fun with it. I’m glad you liked the video! It was a lot of fun and I love to see that people enjoy it
I would say. It's a more 'true'(?) Animal Crossing Experience where new horizons is more of like a sandbox. I wouldn't say it's any better, but it has its own strengths. Just like how new horizons has its own strengths. That's something i've kind of picked up on over the years.
Exactly. There's nothing wrong with liking NH more than any of the other games, but personally it kinda lost the heart that I felt the older games had. Hopefully they can recapture that heart in future instalments. I am cautiously optimistic
My first game was new leaf. I loved it so much that i started to slowly collect the older games. And while I think that new horizons has a ton of quality of life improvements, i think that it's missing the charm the older games had. Especially in the villager department. Personally I love how rude the villagers were particularly in the GameCube version and wild world since forming a friendship with them felt much more rewarding. The villagers in New horizons feel empty, which I think encapsulates the feeling I have with new horizons it's a great game, but the older games felt much more alive.
I wish I spoke more about the villagers because they are such a huge aspect of the game. I agree and love how rude they can be in the older games sometimes too. I understand toning down the sass, but not to the degree that NH did
Wow dude, Ik everyone else is saying it too- but I totally didn’t realize your view and sub count till I checked the comments. This video was so well put together your for sure gonna go far man! It’s nice to see some new leaf appreciation as someone who regularly plays both NH and NL.
UNDERRATED AF?? i lovee your editing style nd agree soo hard on the charm new leaf had with every special character. i really missed that in new horizons and yeahh the convinience was nice but i also felt burnt out my first few times playing bc it was just.. missing that something cough and my first game was also nl and ive never played the others so theres some stuff i def dont know about the series but yeah!
Thank you so much!! That means so much to me! And I agree NL just had more charm and character to it all than NH did I feel. Yes I played all day everyday when it came out but we all did for obvious reasons. However, when I played NH recently (when I had my game that is) I would get bored after a day or two honestly. And yeah obviously nostalgia is gonna cloud my judgment in certain ways like how I don’t mind the inconveniences of the game as much as others, I do genuinely think NL is just a better experience as a life sim which is what I believe this series is meant to be at its core. Thank you for the comment!
The conclusion is great and had me tear up. You said you only played New Leaf in the past, but I'm glad to see a video like this from someone who's aware and experienced what Animal Crossing was originally and why New Horizons turned out how it is---for the better and worst instead of the same ol "New Horizons BAD *just* because it has no more updates and mean villagers". I remember being jealous of the "freedom" and customization when I haven't gotten a Switch, but now playing it made me miss the alive-ness of older games haha
Thank you! The conclusion is my favorite part of most videos so I’m glad you liked it so much (I didn’t mean to make you emotional though I’m sorry!) yeah of course I agree that meaner villagers and more updates would make me like the game more, but that doesn’t mean the game is inherently a BAD game. I think it did a lot of good for the franchise but also hurt it in many ways too. Like I said I wouldn’t want to take it away from my friends and family, I’m just upset that the best selling AC is the most polarizing one. Thank you for the comment! It was really nice to read
Now THAT was a post. Wow. Very detailed and funny. Love that you came out at the end. Can’t wait to see the others. Animal crossing is such a fun and cute game though 😊
I agree, having played WW, NL and also NH extensively, this last game feels a little flat on the "town" matter. While it's true that you have so much more freedom in literally cityscaping (which is so cool for an animal crossing game!) in the previous installments I remember the feeling of variety and surprise for daily events, you just wanted to log in to check out what was happening. Now it's a daily rotation of things that honestly... You can just fly over to Harvey to get? And no minigames except the catching fish and bugs tournaments... Also they took the flea market my beloved I miss selling fugly shirt designs to my villagers for too high a price 😭💓 Anyway great video man, the bits were literally so well timed and funny, keep up the good work!! ✨
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed. I agree I love the improvements NH made but would rather not sacrifice the nuisances of NL like the flea market and mini games. Thank you for the comment!
People whose first AC game was New Horizons, in my opinion, haven't really experienced true Animal Crossing. Also, the MUSIC in New Leaf was 10000x better than in New Horizons
I'm kind of the other way around as I've been playing the older AC games and recently started ACNH... And I'm honestly looking forward to finishing it so I can go back to New Leaf. Like You said, the older games all felt like you moving into a town and making new friends. ACNH is a dollhouse. Although even in terms of decorating, NL has so much more furniture that I actually prefer that.
I got New Leaf around when New Horizons came out because I wanted to get into Animal Crossing after all the hype (technically I’d already been into Pocket Camp but that doesn’t count) but didn’t have a switch and I heard people say New Leaf was the best game in the franchise. I’m glad I did. I love Animal Crossing. I think it’s a pretty good fit for me because sometimes I like the boring, repetitive routine, the fun animals with different personalities, the house decorating. It’s the kind of game you play like crazy for a few weeks and then abandon for months, but I’m the type to always revisit things I’ve loved before so I know every time I take a break there’s no doubt I’ll be back soon
Sometimes we need something that we can hop into and just have fun with doing simple tasks. There's nothing wrong with that! I love doing simple repetitive things in a game where the villagers are all cute animals and have personalities and where it feels like I'm welcomed no matter how much time I leave the town for (of course the villagers will be upset for a minute, but eh I can live with that lol). I take long breaks personally since I really like to take my time with certain games and the Animal Crossing series is DEFINITELY one of those games. Thank you for the comment! It was really nice to read
I like your take on this. I haven't played New Horizons. I don't have a Switch, and that's probably not changing anytime soon. But for a while, I've been watching how things have been going with it from afar. And for me, the social simulation was part of the charm, and draw, for the AC games. I've tried watching gameplay footage over the years to keep my biases aside, and see so much potential. I think it's a shame the social aspects of the game got left by the wayside compared to previous games. I wonder if in the future, there can be better balance between the decorative aspect of NH and the simulation aspect of previous games. NH just isn't for me, but there's a lot to like there. I had my start with City Folk, and enjoyed. Tried GC, but couldn't get into. I only started playing Wild World recently, and it's been fun! I definitely prefer playing AC on handhelds. New Leaf is still my overall favorite. I don't have first-hand experience with New Horizons, so I don't have an opinion on it beyond impressions, my own and others who both love and hate it, and anywhere in between. They just need to not make another Amiibo Festival.
When playing I raised the resolution and made it more HD, but I still think in certain ways the environment looks nicer in NL. I still think the games holds up pretty good on original hardware!
Absolute insane this video dosen't have more views. I'm super nostalgic for older animal crossings , NH is cool and all but sometimes that simplicity of the older titles makes them more fun :)
Simplicity is something I really like in my games personally so I think that may be a big reason as to why I like NL so much more than NH. Thank you for bringing that up! Also, sick pfp. I fucking love MH
I cannot believe how good this vid is, you deserve a lot more views and followers. I have more hours on new leaf than any other Game and finding your video makes me want to have more☠️
Wow, thank you! That really means a lot to me! New Leaf is such a good game to spend your time in so I totally understand lol. It was at one time the game I had the most hours in and then Monster Hunter World came out 😅
While I enjoy New Horizons a bit more, I have to agree that New Leaf is fundamentally better, gameplay-wise. It simply had more to do, along with more things. There were so many items related to other Nintendo IPs that you could wear or decorate your house with. Aside from Mario, they had the Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Pikmin, Metroid, Star Fox and F Zero. You could also get a wii u and a 3ds and play games on them! I hope the next game is a combination of the last two. Let us customize our appearance and decorate outside. But have us in a town with limited control on who lives there.
Absolutely agree. I didn't mention it but on the last few days I was playing I ended up getting Link tunic and remembered that whole aspect of the game. At that point the script was very long and I didn't know where to include it, but its something I hope the next game brings back. It's cute little things like that that make the game just more charming. Like you said, I hope Nintendo can get aspects of both the games and make something that can please both communities
New horizons was my first AC game, and after hearing so many people rave about new leaf I decided to try it out. Yes! I wish they could have implemented more of the NL system into NH while keeping many of the quality of life aspects of NH. Absolutely. I hope that came across in the video like I wanted, but YES I am way more of life simulation fan of the game rather than the building fan as you put it. While I think that unfortunately Nintendo will lean more in the builder side for obvious reasons, I do hope that they have heard the voices of the fans of the older games and still tries to incorporate what we love so much about the series into the next game. Until then I will be cautiously optimistic!
