As someone with a degree, i cannot stand when people throw their BA Psychology degree around and think that gives them special license to diagnose and talk about people. A degree doesn’t just make you a professional where you can just speak on those things.

Yep, and most states don’t even formally allow you to identify as a clinical psychologist i.e., it is against ethical standards to name yourself that without a doctoral degree + thousands of hours of clinical training usually through an accredited body + passing the licensing exam and fulfilling any requirements for jurisprudence testing pertinent to that state’s laws. So yeah, it’s pure BS when people claim they are “psychologists” with a bachelor’s or even master’s degrees.

I'm shocked you didn't know YDHB totally lied about medical school. She didn't go at all. She admitted it after one of her mods accidentally let the cat out of the bag. Her excuse was she "didn't want to dox herself", which made no sense. She wasn't working full time during that rant either and wasn't last year though she lies about it. Omg she rubbed me the wrong way when in a live stream she was saying "only Americans care about race/ethnicity" while simultaneously saying how she always stood out and was bullied for being an immigrant. For a lot of people being an immigrant is not the only hurdle you face when being in a new country. Racism usually plays a huge factor in that. It just came across incredibly tone deaf for someone to say both and not see how they are two sides of the same coin. A lot of people who dismiss bipoc people like myself hide behind this sneaky comment. Gee I wonder why the person who has to deal with racism keeps bringing it up 🤔 i could never really criticize from a medical stand point because thats not my field but when I heard that it just struck me incredibly hard just how biased this "unbiased" person is. I am not an immigrant but I've been through racism so I always had sympathy/empathy for those who have to experience both. So I was surprised she just used her experience to invalidate the other side. Like how do u of all people not get it babe?? She wasn't even criticizing racists in that generalization she was just saying it annoyed like why do y'all care about race so much it's weird. Yeah babe racism is weird. Also, European accents and blue eyes is literally exoticized and put on a pedestal so much I can actually see how she might've just never experienced racism from American audiences. The final straw for me was the time ALR expressed that she might be looking into an ADHD assessment. Personally, I'm of the opinion that ALR seems to display certain patterns of symptoms that wouldn't be out of place for an AFAB person with ADHD, and I don't really mind if ppl disagree with me because it's something none of us are ever going to know for sure. But the thing that really disgusted me was when I watched YDHB's reaction, and she completely dismissed the possibility of something like that based mainly on "she's just looking for an excuse/she's just lazy and wants an appetite suppressant/she's taken all of this off the internet and it's 100% garbage" or something along those lines.
I can't remember exactly what she said because I have ADHD myself and that means I live with a goldfish brain, but I do remember being incredibly angry and upset because it was straight ableism from someone who claims to be educated and empathetic. The shit she said in that video was exactly the same logic as comments that people have made to me when I was undiagnosed and unable to function, and it showed me how truly ignorant she is. She can talk all day long about seeing a doctor and going to therapy and taking care of your anxiety and depression, but she has no qualms and no remorse about spreading misinformation and stigma around about conditions where we suffer medical stigma and bias for the nature of our medication.
Sorry if this is a wall of text, but it's one of the things I just don't hear ppl discussing within the gorlverse, and it hurt a lot to hear her go from somewhat reasonable to being so discriminatory and dismissive of a condition like ADHD. People don't know how subtle ADHD can be and how drastically a diagnosis and meds can change your life, and it's so hypocritical of her to claim she wants people to be well, yet she shuts down the idea of ALR literally trying to get help, regardless of whether or not we think ALR will go through with it.

Hi Mika love your videos, especially this one. But I do have a tad bit of info for you. There is huge xenophobia against eastern Europeans in Britain. Especially with the whole brexit movement. I learned about this from Angelika Oles, who like the person in this video, is a polish immigrant in the UK. I learned that this xenophobia affected her very negatively. So while I agree with most of your arguments, I think the xenophobia she faces may be a bit more impactful than what was said in this video. As some people think poles and other eastern european are not white. So the comparison you made to the US with Mexican immigrants may actually be more similar than you think. If you look up Eastern Europeans, brexit, and racism there is a short article by the British Sociological Association that shows the xenophobia against Eastern Europeans.
As a fellow Canadian this doesn't make sense as poles and brits are both white, but as we both know race is a social construct that seems to change with the wind. And how we define a race is depends on the culture (and government definitions) in which we love.

I got blocked by YDHB for liking a positive comment on her Instagram. Yes I was testing her. The comment was like 2 weeks old.
I just find it funny how she expects to have open, healthy conversations but has a block list longer than ALRs receipt after ordering Door Dash. Educated, strong women can debate and talk about things without needing to block. People with thick skin don’t mind a bit of criticism and does need yes men walking on egg shells to do that. I remember seeing a screenshot of a comment on the Reddit page once say (roughly) “hey, I love you so much, but _____, again it’s not out of hate, much love❤” she liked and replied to it.
I don’t disagree with talking about the subjects she’s talking about. But I would expect her to do more research and to be more critical of the sources she used. To be a “middle man” when having an open conversation, you can’t have a clear bias. She wants to pretend she’s a centralist, like many left and right wingers do, but has a tendency to slip up and show her bias. Politics doesn’t need to be 100% of one way or 100% the other. On the "bottom of the barrell content" point: that's a good one, I didn't think about it but like, she recently started doing these voiceover videos, claiming that she doesn't have the time to properly setup and edit everything, and that's fair, but she also rants pointlessly in the majority of those videos (she herself admitted it). I would prefer if she just recorded less stuff, but more scripted and edited, I would enjoy it more

Hey Mika, while it is true that she is a white immigrant, there is something to be said for slavophobia (antislavisme) in Western Europe, especially in England. Brexit based a lot of its argumentation around "the job-thieving Poles and Rumanians won't be able to enter the country anymore". After the Brexit vote there has been a recorded spike in hate crimes against Polish immigrants.
Personal experiences that can absolutely be skipped: As a Polish woman myself, I grew up in Germany and I have the privilege of not being read as Slavic as much, especially since my parents were advised when immigrating to West Germany to change their last name into German (and my dad's entire name, first and second), as it was "too hard" to pronounce and made them "un-employable". My mom has been belittled during my parent-teacher conferences, by patients while working as a nurse, etc. for her Slavic accent. I've been accused of stealing, endured jokes about my possibly stealing bc Polish, being sexualized based on my nationality, jokingly been called a mail-order wife, etc.
I'm not saying this to criticise or attack you at all, I'm aware that as a Canadian you do not have any intimate experience with European -phobias and -isms. I just wanted to offer a lived perspective on where her pride might come from. This is, however, very subjective. And since I do not have a Polish accent and I mostly don't go by my Polish first name now, I've mostly been able to coast, so I won"t say that there isn't still a big privilege of whiteness at play.
That being said, I also think she's giving Blair White. I was never able to watch much of her content. I absolutely agree with your assessment of her pandering to a more right wing audience, as well. It starts feeling like a rather unsuccessful, not yet fully committed to grift.
(edited bc I wanted to sound less trauma dumpy haha)

Thank you for your criticism, I did not want to discount her experience of xenophobia but also wanted to state that I was not sure of the extent of it. However, there is still privilege, especially online, from being a white woman. That was the point I wanted to make but I did not do that as effectively as I thought

@@MikasRhetoric No, no need to apologise! I don’t believe many will take offence at all. I also still understood the point you were making regarding her privilege and I’m in no way shape or form denying that. It’s all an issue of intersectionality. Just wanted to point out that in Europe not all whiteness is considered equal and that her living in England could put her in a more vulnerable/marginalised position and thought maybe it is interesting.
Personally, I think that you pointing out that she was a well-off white immigrant with an academic background was a more effective way of illustrating her privilege in online spaces.

I've seen the photos from the articles she uses for her statement about "biological women" (hate that wording) teachers being fired for being "too sexy." Those articles are dime-a-dozen garbage and often the photos are edited out the ass, no pun intended. If you pause on a couple of the screenshots she uses it's very easy to tell from the curve of their arms for example that someone edited those photos to make those women's butts look bigger, waists skinnier, etc.

I only watched a few videos of hers before I checked out. I’ve been following UA-cam drama for a very long time and one of the earliest controversies within the drama community was John Kuckian. However long before his first massive controversy, he would use his education to place himself above the people he was criticizing. It was a lot of “unlike me, who is studying medical chemistry and working to cure rare diseases…” or “when I launch my line of make up, I won’t have the same problems because I am working on my degree in chemistry.” At the time he seemed very credible, but eventually, everything he said about himself came into question and he ended up doing some very harmful things to a lot of different people. I’m getting a lot of similar feelings from YDHB. I’m not saying she’s lying about her credentials, nor do I think referencing your education is necessarily bad or wrong, but when it becomes a point of comparison, a way to elevate yourself above others, it feels very off. That and a lot of what she says overlaps with Angelika Oles, who not only uses her education to elevate herself, but also repeatedly ignores and belittles marginalized groups, I had to stop watching. If you invoke those two, I have to give some distance until it’s confirmed it was a fluke. Seems it might not have been imagined on my part…
