      Nessus Yeah it was really cool but when the boosters landed on the droneship you do know spacex only has two in for equatorial orbits and one for polar orbits far from each other that was unrealistic but great video quality!😊

    This really puts it into perspective of how powerful the Saturn Five rocket really was.

    • @221b-l3t
      @221b-l3t 6 років тому +14

      And it wasn't even that expensive compared to the Shuttle and some other rockets. Depending on what figures you use it cost about 5k - 7k per kg to orbit. Compare that to the Shuttle at over 20k, Ariane 5 at 10k and Soyuz at 7k. It's not bad. Only China's LMII and Indias polar launcher beat that with 5k and 4k. Of course now 40 years later we have the F9 coming it at 2700ish per kg expendable and just under 2k reusable.
      Of course BFR will smash that, assuming twice the currently rumoured 6 million-ish launch cost of BFR you get between 40 to 70 bucks per kg to orbit. That 15k to launch an average weight human with a bit over twice his weight in supplies into orbit.

      @@221b-l3t Proton also beats it, you forgot about it ;)
      Also, if we are to use 1970s cost of Saturn, then Soyuz's would be lower, is it adjusted, or period-value USD?

    • @221b-l3t
      @221b-l3t 6 років тому +4

      The Saturn figures I used are in todays money. All are. You're right Proton is actually a great rocket. It's just now starting to be more expensive than Falcon with the reuse and Block 5 discounts. Maybe they'll put it back to its original purpose of launching the full yield version of RDS-220. :)

    I absolutely love your presentations and recently started following your channel.
    To this nearly perfect plan I would only change two things.
    1- the transfer vehicle should be Hydrazine, allá AJ -10 or Briz M, Freggat on steroids. The risk of that transfer vehicle fuels burning away is too great. What if weather delays occur, could think of many other reasons for a delay. Then that RL 10 powered stage is for not after how long?
    2- why still make the same mistake with lander? No cross propellant capability between lower and accent stage? Why? Either that gets fixed or we use the Russian lander approach, it’s much safer.
    If am incorrect I’ll be glad to read

    Very Apollo... falcon heavy can send an autonomous lander in one shot, Apollo didn't have the technology to do that. One extended range CrewDragon would need to be landed on the moon by F9H. A tanker F9 would refuel a second stage+CrewDragon and the result would head to the moon. 5 F9 boosters needed, vs 7 and an additional docking manuever the Apollo way. This does require a Moon EVA to get back.
    As a bonus, that way leaves a dragon capsule on the moon that could be used for spare parts, flown in emergencies after a refuel, or linked together with hubs for a moon base. An F9H autonomous payload delivery vehicle would need to be made for the moon base idea.

    Wow. This is just like in reality pretty great ;).
    Would be so great to see this happen in reality. Looks like its possible to do it like that. The only things that must be developed would. Be the lander, the command module and the transfer module. The rest is already there.
    But at the moment nasa developes their sls and space x concentrates on spaceship, which is also pretty great but I think would still takes at least 2 years to get it in a state where it can enter orbit

    Watching this 3 years later its crazy to think that we could possibly just use existing hardware to get to the moon. There are a few bugs to work out, like crew dragon not being rated to cross the Van Allen Belts, but I'm sure Spacex could figure it out. NASA however wanted to go a bit bigger and launch SLS and Starship at the same time to land a whole base up there! lol give it to the US government if its not insanely expensive its just not a good solution.

    Thanks for the music-less version. I loath videos with music unless it's an actual music video.

    Why did you send each segment to lunar orbit, instead of assembling in orbit and having a single transfer stage?

    I wonder if you could fill the command module to 100% if you had used parachutes instead of superdragos
