Yes, I thought that too. I remember lights with similar finishes in houses I grew up in, in the 1950s. But the houses had been built prior to 1950. I, too, think that light might be even older than they thought.

You could use those optigon windows for Maverick's room. Maybe somewhere on an exterior wall or even on an internal wall then you could peek in on him from time to time, maybe when he's napping and such. When he got older you can always put a curtain over it for privacy. Or cover it with a frosted film or possibly those fake stained glass window things you stick on the glass. I was thinking the window would look like a porthole on a ship.Just a thought.🙂

What a beautiful butterfly . Belle must be loving the tropical insects and butterflies of Florida . Heat definitely comes with colour in vegetation and insects . All very lovely and alive . The lights are real finds , and I do love that you are looking for the unique rather than the ordinary in your light fittings . The house is going to be very special .

Your exterior tarp has grommets, you can use string to tie with camping spikes to suspend tarp out from house when working so Ashley doesn't have to hold it out.
A little Brass Rub n Buff will make your new light look the way you would like. It is inexpensive and works great, as well as simple to use. Hope this helps They have it in Brass and other metals.
I had to laugh seeing Ashley using the mop holding out the tarp. I laughed because I did the same thing about a week ago. My hubbie was in the garage working on something and I grabbed a swiffer mop as a makeshift tool, he laughed but hey it worked! I call it “women’s ingenuity”…😄

I know to some it may not seem like much, but those things are huge when trying to balance it out with making time to enjoy life, behind the scenes planning and research, procuring supplies, etc. I struggle just to get into deep cleaning projects with my toddler, much less remodeling yet. I’ve come to terms with the fact that Time is a very subjective thing and I’m not putting as much importance on what other’s timeline deadlines would be. Thanks for the tips on where to buy US made products or at least not Made in China stuff. There’s too many things made in China that don’t need to be made there. Some things can’t be avoided, but let’s spread the Global Economic wealth to other countries if it can’t be found Made in the USA whenever possible.
Both lights are very pretty, but I agree, the 1st one would look great for a little girl's room. The 1st and 2nd lights, look very small for a living room light. Both looked more sized for a small bedroom or hallway. I don't know the dimensions of your living room but perhaps you should consider the size of your room/size of ceiling light based on the following: "A general rule of thumb formula can be used to determine an appropriate diameter for ceiling fixtures. To determine this, add those two numbers together and then convert the total into inches. So if your room is 10 feet by 12 feet, the ceiling fixture should be 22 inches wide." However, whatever you decide, it is your house and I and sure it will look great when you are finished. I enjoy watching your show. You are so talented and I want to know where you learned to build because you seem to be able to do almost everything that a person would need to know how to do and feel like you qualify for a Renaissance Man (a person with many talents and areas of knowledge) title. I dont understand your dislike of made in china. Nothing you buy in usa is 100 % usa. But your ok with c ambodia and taiwan. All countries are meshed together. Why do you think we have microchip shortages. Making shortages and prices going up.
I can't understand how you don't know what is wrong with China. China is a big human-rights violator, their communist gov't is corrupt, and *they made and released the thing that screwed up our entire world for the last year and a half which wreaked complete havoc.* They steal intellectual property, they pollute big-time...honestly the list goes on and on. I don't like American companies who would rather pay Chinese workers hardly anything just for their own personal gain because they don't want to pay a decent wage in our own country.

I'm generally not a fan of ceiling lights, except in the kitchen and bathroom. I much prefer lamps in living rooms and bedrooms. But the ceiling lights you have chosen are great and I'm sure Maverick will absolutely love his light with the boat theme. Progress is being made and that is awesome.
Loving everything you’re doing, great light fixtures. However, watching Maverick and Belle on the trampoline I’m thinking what a wonderful thing you’ve done for your children. Aside from the delightful fun they’re having, the bone building exercise they’re getting can’t be beat. You know Ashley, that’s most likely where your tremendous physical strength comes from. You two are awesome parents.
When I got windows in my house, I got reliabuilt from Lowe's. They have a lifetime warranty on theirs. The sell Pella, but Pella didn't have a lifetime warranty at that time. Reliability was half the price and was told that the windows they get at Lowe's all come from the same place. The companies just put their own stickers on it.
It would at least be something to check out. Other stores may have similar deals. It sa ed me alot of money on the Windows and the electricity as well.
The lights are perfect, I've seen the kind you have for Mavs room, but never with the glass like that. That's a great feature. The livingroom light is beautiful. I never thought to look on ebay, but I need to. Green shirt is nice change Doug. Lol I know you as the Working man in black. The bedroom will be so nice with all the windows and light flooding in.

haha, yea we had to get creative and find a way to keep our bikes out of the rain, so we thought of that idea with the tarp and swingset. It works pretty well! :)

I love the care, thought, and willingness to change you mind you demonstrate as you plan. I also love your repurposing older items. If the living room light isn't exactly the color you would like, why not get some spray paint and paint the metal parts the exact color you want. It is the easiest way, I think, and is an easy fix. We've had great success with that.
Maybe you could tape some cardboard over the numbers so we can see your mailbox? I love your lights, and tell Maverick we're moving into our Tugboat on Friday, and sailing up to AK to our new home!

Wall hanging toilet and sink and cabinets are AWESOME. So much easier to clean the floor. And makes the space look bigger.

I'm generally not a fan of ceiling lights, except in the kitchen and bathroom. I much prefer lamps in living rooms and bedrooms. But the ceiling lights you have chosen are great and I'm sure Maverick will absolutely love his light with the boat theme. Progress is being made and that is awesome.

Loving everything you’re doing, great light fixtures. However, watching Maverick and Belle on the trampoline I’m thinking what a wonderful thing you’ve done for your children. Aside from the delightful fun they’re having, the bone building exercise they’re getting can’t be beat. You know Ashley, that’s most likely where your tremendous physical strength comes from. You two are awesome parents.
When I got windows in my house, I got reliabuilt from Lowe's. They have a lifetime warranty on theirs. The sell Pella, but Pella didn't have a lifetime warranty at that time. Reliability was half the price and was told that the windows they get at Lowe's all come from the same place. The companies just put their own stickers on it.
It would at least be something to check out. Other stores may have similar deals. It sa ed me alot of money on the Windows and the electricity as well.
The lights are perfect, I've seen the kind you have for Mavs room, but never with the glass like that. That's a great feature. The livingroom light is beautiful. I never thought to look on ebay, but I need to. Green shirt is nice change Doug. Lol I know you as the Working man in black. The bedroom will be so nice with all the windows and light flooding in.
That new living room light fixture reminds me of something you would see in a victorian home. Plus, I love how you all made a "shed" out of a tarp and part of the swing set, geneous! I had to come back and say DOUG IS WEARING A SHIRT THAT ISN'T BLACK!? Love it!!!
haha, yea we had to get creative and find a way to keep our bikes out of the rain, so we thought of that idea with the tarp and swingset. It works pretty well! :)

Love the light fixtures, and watching all the progress you are making on your home. But, I mostly like the happiness on both of your faces. I'm glad that Florida suits you. I'm from Georgia so i get the love of the south.
I love the care, thought, and willingness to change you mind you demonstrate as you plan. I also love your repurposing older items. If the living room light isn't exactly the color you would like, why not get some spray paint and paint the metal parts the exact color you want. It is the easiest way, I think, and is an easy fix. We've had great success with that.
Maybe you could tape some cardboard over the numbers so we can see your mailbox? I love your lights, and tell Maverick we're moving into our Tugboat on Friday, and sailing up to AK to our new home!

You should pop a light in that fixture and make sure it will give enough light for the area you want to light. The glass may filter the light more than you think. Those are really cool light fixtures and I can't wait to see them installed.
I'm in favor of eliminating the octagon windows. I would never make the suggestion to remove them, but I will second your decision. 👍

That looks like a Belle light. The light looks like a white pumpkin. You can spray paint it to where you like. Mavericks light is so awesome. The trampoline is one of your best purchases you have made.
