    VERY IMPORTANT: I recommend you look at the part numbers on your existing shocks and struts to figure out if you have the sports suspension or not so that you know what to order. I have the sports suspension so this is what I ordered:
    Front struts:
    31316786003 Left front strut sports suspension
    31316786004 right front strut sports suspension
    31331094749 BMW Mini Strut Dust Sleeve - Febi Bilstein
    31306775098 BMW Strut Mount - Lemforder 2700101
    Rear shocks:
    33526771729 Rear shock sports suspension
    33536767335 BMW Shock Bump Stop - Febi Bilstein
    33506771737 BMW Shock Mount - Lemforder
    33506771738 BMW Shock Mount - Lemforder
    33526768544 BMW E9X 3-Series Rear Shock Mount OEM
    As always, visit www.realoem.com to figure out exactly which part numbers belong to your car by looking up your VIN number.
    Good luck!

    Good video, suspension can be a huge pita and watching yours made it easier for my job. The most important thing is to lower the control arms so that you can get the strut enough room to slide into the knuckle.

    Thanks for this, been trying to figure out how to get the spring compressed right to get this done and I think this is it. (using on my e90, but still very useful). Now hopefully the right side takes 1/3 time as the left

    On the front shocks, the bump stop is not supposed to be mainly tucked into the bellows, but stick out the top so you put it in upside down

    FYI the safest way to do remove the strut from the knuckle is to use a tool like the Schwaben Spindle Housing Spreader tool. It fits on a ratchet or breaker bar to gently spread that opening without damaging it. It's less than $20, and made removing the struts on my 335is MUCH faster.

    Maybe stupid question, i am now watching your great video.
    I saw you have to hammer hub quite a lot before you get shock removed.
    I would put big flathead screwdriver in that groove with hammer, to spread it. Then shock is much more easy to remove.
    At least in E46 series it helps.
    Second thing, maybe good idea to use some lubricant spray on spring compressors. Some people said you should only use hand tools when you tight spring compressors, not impact.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 місяців тому +1

      I did use a big chisel to spread it apart.

    Bilstein B4's are easier to fit as a DIY as they don't need such high compression of the spring, they do a m-sport version as well.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  Місяць тому

      @@scottyjohnson4386 it’s physically impossible for the portion of the strut shaft that I grab with the vice grip to go past the seals on the strut, so the seals will never be torn up by any potential marks put into the shaft. Plus the strut is hardened on the outside such that no marks are left on it in the first place so I just don’t see what’s wrong with my method, ya know? But hey, to each his own. If someone feels better to buy the special tool, I say go for it. But I do think both methods are valid.

    Hi 50s KID, Can you help me please? "I replaced the valve cover gasket and after starting the engine, it started to hum and the engine ran as if a cylinder was misfiring. The humming noise comes from the CCV tube that goes into the valve cover. When I disconnect it, there is pressure coming from the tube that causes the humming. When I block the tube with my hand, the engine runs well. Do you know how to solve this problem?" Thanks Joseph

    • @lkstaack74
      @lkstaack74 Місяць тому +1

      He isn't a professional mechanic and he doesn't do these videos to make mad cash; he does it for the fun of it. So, you're not going to see him spend a lot of time typing out detailed parts and tools lists or re-editing the video if he forgets the name of something. If he forgets the name of something, he just goes with it and keeps it real.
