The deflector board which is fitted on the front of the vehicle needs to be extended for swimming operation as the shape of the front of the vehicle can act like a hydroplane and push the vehicle down into the water. Some years service with units operating these in the 1980’s gave me the fun experience of watching them disappear under the water on a far too regular basis. Still a fantastic vehicle and sight to see swimming.

Brilliant!
I love these machines!!
It has two propellors one each side at the rear and is steered by two tillers in the drivers cab which direct the flow of water.
Marvelous 😊 hope it's still running ?
Nice 👌 Mr Hewes is fixing one up this week. A lot of welding do do on the body!
Yes, that will be fun. I hope he uses a forward screen cos it can be embarrassing without!
we had stalwarts in my regiment r
these guys didn't deploy the front trim boards it's another brained to help trim the vehicle when unladen
I drove one into the sea in Stranraer early `70s. Royal Artillery. I wonder if anyone managed to film it ?.I don`t even have a photo of it.
does it just use the wheels to turn and move in the water or is there a propeller somewhere?
Apparently, the Alvis Stalwart had something like a dual waterjet/prop propulsion system in the rear of the vehicle.
