I love my float tube. It’s like fishing from a BarcaLounger. I sit high out of water. Vision is excellent. I can strap my pack to it and hike it back to anyplace a day hike distance.
Damn... I love my float tube. I can't imagine fishing from a SUP board... Mind you I don't think I could even balance on one... And it's hard to fish when you're swimming in the lake. But yeah... I love me some float tube fishing.
Great video! I recently discovered how important good line is. It makes the world of difference. I would almost argue that good line is more important than a good rod. I’m still running a slightly budget rod, and it is fine. Tight lines, bro! 😉
Agree with your take on don’t needs. Uh, except for midges. When going after the big boys it’s always size 36 midges on 10x tippet....barbless of course. Maybe I’ll catch one some day. Thanks for the entertaining video. Makes Monday easier to bear!
I love my float tube. I have two boats and haven’t been in either one of them since I got my float tube six years ago. The biggest drawbacks are limited range and wind. Not enough of a deterrent to put me back in the boat. There are way more advantages.
I live in British Columbia. All rivers and streams are single barbless hook only with a bait ban. A lot of lakes are also going single barbless too and dropping the limit from 4 to 1 fish.
If they're wild populations that are vulnerable then I can agree with those rules but if you're fishing stocked populations in lakes then thats a little too damn controlling and stupid, those fish are domesticated finned chickens produced in mass and were meant to be kept and eaten.
New to fly fishing and I’m glad I found your videos. I hear of this elite stuck up sector of the community but luckily I have yet to run into that. Or maybe I’m too new and naive to realize, either way I’m having a great time scaring fish and drinking beer. Thanks
Barbs are better if you pinch them down than when you don’t have them at all. So yeah pinch them the little spot on the shank helps the fish don’t slip so easily off the hook.
Good video !! I have a special empty fly box that I show others and say that I have midges in it just to impress them. Now I gotta go find that camera in the bathroom . Tight lines man !
Because of a bad back I carry all my stuff in a waist pack. And I can't fish an hour with a light one hand rod, but for "many" with two handers. You use you back in a totally different way - hope some of those, who might have stopped or given up learning because of the pain, can use the info.
I picked up my float tube for 80$ on craigslist, i like it because a lot of alpine lakes are too shallow before the drop off (where the fish are) and it’s impossible to cast that far with ultralight gear or fly rods in many cases
Tight lines bro!! LMAO I feel exactly the same when I hear it too..I stick wit the age old..Good Luck..and yea u called it..I was def watchin in "my office"
I liked the commentary on the "trophy" private water trout. A couple generations ago, they were called doughbellys around here. As you see, that is quite a complementary nickname. Go get you some doughbellys boys and girls.
Taking the time to commit an image and the sounds and surroundings to memory lasts much longer, is more vivid and I have been able to catalog them so that I can return to something mentally much better than with an image.
So, if you don't reccomend float tubes, how do you fish small lakes and ponds? Some places are hard to bank fish from and I'm not in a position to buy a boat, Thanks!
I've always wondered the fly culture in NA, it either seems to be a 16 inch streamer with seven shanks and dozen hooks or a size 36 midge or dry. Like nothing in between wtf.
Ben as usual, waaaaay Huge!!! I’m cracking up the whole way through.... “I wonder how many of you are watching this from the bathroom??” I mean you got serious unserious talent!!!! I even heard a tad bit familiarity of “Hank Patterson... renond fly fishing guide and professional fly fisherman “ blahaaaaahaha🤘
12 (more) things you don't need for fly fishing: 1. Instagram 2. A barb on your hook 3. Midges 4. Stocked trout 5. Friends 6. Expensive equipment 7. Float tube 8. Face / neck thing (aka, a buff) 9. Bug seine 10. Fried chicken ... (that's not true) 11. Anything labeled "Pro" or "Guide" 12. The saying "tight lines"
Well done...Inspired me to comment without using a fly rod as bait. Orvis "pro" wading boots are legit good. First time eating fried chicken on the water yesterday, wont be the last. Le huge fly fisherman...james lessons are paying off. I used my buff as striking paper. Yes...im watching this from the bathroom.
Ben, love the video as usual. I’m a total gear junkie but these shorties have helped me reduce my stuff to the essentials and have more fun. What are your thoughts on the term “Fudge” for browns...
Since you brought up the bathroom theme, let me throw in another semi-pro tip: Poo-Pourri does NOT work as a fly floatant! Sure, it makes your fly smell nice, but no self respecting trout will go after a fly that smells like vanilla mint. A carp might, but I don't know. If you try to use it, your fly will turn into a sinker, not a floater! Don't get me wrong, the stuff works great for its' intended purpose. No group fishing trip should ever be without a Master Crapsman collection in the bathroom. Just don't get carried away!

Wait, what.... is there a camera on here?
well i sure hope to use these tips to get tight lines fishing a midge for cutties
Hahaaa. Midges..... my fingers are cold..... like butter
Huge Fly Fisherman already a customer of theirs 👍
This video helped me become a pro midge guide. Thanks bro. Tight lines!
Yup, you caught me. Totally watched this on the throne.
matthew russel yup me too haha
Same
Only time I watch UA-cam lol
Yup
Yup!
How to tie a midge: attach thread to the smallest hook you have aaaaand whip finish. Stay huge 🤓
Don’t forget the pro guide edition: topped with a copper wire wrap
I love my float tube. It’s like fishing from a BarcaLounger. I sit high out of water. Vision is excellent. I can strap my pack to it and hike it back to anyplace a day hike distance.
You are wrong
“Tight lines catching those buttery Cutties!!”
Hey Man, the cast to that cuttie was butter! Tight lines!
"Any" rod and a good line beats the oposite any time. I still remember my first cast with a good line - it was addictive.
I like to "butter" my "tight lines" while fishing for "cutties". - Pro Guide
LMAO!
#TightLines bro
I have a fishing kayak, the seat is like a lawn chair so I'm pretty elevated. Works great for drifting by myself.
Loved it. But I'm not getting rid of my rod vault. Tight li.......argh. Thanks Ben. I'll be waiting for the Guide's choice koozie
Besides "tight lines", the word "epic" when describing every fishing trip!!
You without sunglasses is freaking me out!!!
Agree with your take on don’t needs. Uh, except for midges. When going after the big boys it’s always size 36 midges on 10x tippet....barbless of course. Maybe I’ll catch one some day. Thanks for the entertaining video. Makes Monday easier to bear!
Agree about confidence in a fly. Love your tackle boxes
I always enjoy your videos on the toilet playing with my tenkara pole!
More! More! You need your own prime time TV show! Now I gotta wait a whole week for the next one.
I love my float tube. I have two boats and haven’t been in either one of them since I got my float tube six years ago. The biggest drawbacks are limited range and wind. Not enough of a deterrent to put me back in the boat. There are way more advantages.
Great video, bro! I’m on my way to catch some bows, cutties, and maybe even butter. Wish me luck!
Tight lines!
I'm a midge fan....and I loved this! Cheers!
I agree on everything... except the midge thing.
Tight lines!
Weird thing is.......
This doesn't apply for just fly fishing, it's GREAT advice for fishing generally 👍👍👍
Those neck gaters are nice for going into doctors appointments, I keep them in my truck just for that lol
I fly fish pike, muskies, smallmouth bass and carp, your fly box and my fly box have many common features
Love it!!! You're saying everything I've been thinking for the past couple of years! Well not everything. I think of other stuff too, sometimes.
New to fly fishing and I’m glad I found your videos. I hear of this elite stuck up sector of the community but luckily I have yet to run into that. Or maybe I’m too new and naive to realize, either way I’m having a great time scaring fish and drinking beer. Thanks
Most are "like you".
Barbs are better if you pinch them down than when you don’t have them at all. So yeah pinch them the little spot on the shank helps the fish don’t slip so easily off the hook.
❤😂Thank you for sharing……time for fly fishing to give up the hype and just enjoy it for what is does
Good video !!
Well now i have to. Great vid bro. Love them cuttys and butter. TIGHT LINES!!!!
Wow, I'm doing better than I thought, I've only been fly fishing for a little over a year and I already don't have most of these.
Living in Yellowstone this summer. Catching Cutties and buttery Browns!
Tightlines bro
You too. Hoping this weekend to go out and a trophy stockie on a midge pattern.
@@carlmoeller56 Rad! what sort of ladder do you haul with you, I think an eight foot aluminum is perfect for midge fishin
i do use tiny flies when early spring fly fishing only because i like to catch the tiny 3 inch largemouth bass in the river.
YES! Huge Fly Fisherman Pro Guide Koozie . . . PLEASE!
Hey Ben! Nailing the cutties on my midge patterns lately! Tight lines bra!
Very good helpful video, keep your lines tight(tight lines).
Tight lines to you Pro Guide Sir👊
3 years later, still indeed watching from the bathroom. Killer content
I picked up my float tube for 80$ on craigslist, i like it because a lot of alpine lakes are too shallow before the drop off (where the fish are) and it’s impossible to cast that far with ultralight gear or fly rods in many cases
And I’m talking about alpine lakes, otherwise i’d take a kayak but that wouldn’t be feasible
I'll never give up my float tube, it holds plenty of beer. But it could use a pro guide koozie...
Hahahaha. Loved the fly box, I hate midges when I learned to fish the line was big bait big fish. I never got over that.
Hey nice video! Ive been watching you for a while now and I’m lovin it! Tight lines!
Dude you rock. As some would say "keepin it real".
PRO GUIDE here, great vid! Great info!
TIGHTLINES! 👍🏽
Best thing I've ever done, is get rid my social network! More time enjoying real life situations.
Kent Todd I mean UA-cam is a social network
True! But at least I get to monitor what I want to see, as far as positivity.
Kent Todd
What is social media?
Taking the time to commit an image and the sounds and surroundings to memory lasts much longer, is more vivid and I have been able to catalog them so that I can return to something mentally much better than with an image.
Yep for sure chicken and beer sound great after a day of getting the BX ll bent 🎣
Died laughing in the first five seconds. Definitely on the toilet right now.
Would love to see you and Hank Patterson collaborate on a video. Tight lines! lol
More great huge advice! The fried chicken threw me off initially. I was like WHAT!!??
Sitting in the chitter thanks for another great video!!
Perfect video. Most applies to bass fishing also. Yes I’m wierd and do both. Stay huge !
The part about dog/cat food fed “trophies” was amazing. Especially when it’s private pay to play “trophies.” The worst. 😂😂🤣🤣
So, if you don't reccomend float tubes, how do you fish small lakes and ponds? Some places are hard to bank fish from and I'm not in a position to buy a boat,
Thanks!
SUP
Love your videos man!
Bustin' butter bellies in PA over here. Hopefully the cutties are cooperating for you western guys. Tight lines!
Fishing with the family is the best
Bought my Rod at Orvis, and promptly went to Cabela's to get the $20 reel instead of the $120 model at Orvis which was the cheapest reel there.
Will the pro guide koozie work on pint cans?
My best Fly, Dark Henderson, fished like a streamer.
Cool video....my neck gator is crying.
Tight lines!
So great... Couldn’t agree more with all 12. Love it. 🍺🍺🍺
Great tips. Tightlines brah.
Ouch, I don’t think float tubes are all that bad depending on where you fish. Mine has been an invaluable tool fishing still water.
No
I fished with midges last weekend. Didn’t catch any fish but my cat ate a midge after I got home. Turned into an expensive day real fast. No midges!
ouch
Yeah I dont let my dog come into the garage anywhere near my tying bench...
Everything you said is totally true! Thanks great stuff.
I am! Watching from the bathroom that is!
Im no pro fly fisher, i use streaking caddis 80% of the time. My favorite fly :)
Dude. Caught some bows on my Tenkara yesterday. I slayed them.
2:34 woah bro are you a streamer junky
I now know why I'm not having great success catching trout! I'm not bringing the FRIED CHICKEN!!!! Many thanks for another great video!
Tight Lines bro
do you need NordVPN to be a flyfisherman?
😂😂😂😂
If you want to protect your "perfect fishing hole" research from those pesky hackers trying to steal our valuable secrets.
Used to tie and fish size 26 midges
Watching this from my bathroom 👊🍻
Living 45 min from the San Juan tailwater, I've had to accept using midges when I go down there😂
12 (more) things you don't need for fly fishing:
1. Instagram
2. A barb on your hook
3. Midges
4. Stocked trout
5. Friends
6. Expensive equipment
7. Float tube
8. Face / neck thing (aka, a buff)
9. Bug seine
10. Fried chicken ... (that's not true)
11. Anything labeled "Pro" or "Guide"
12. The saying "tight lines"
Should do a piece on flat brim hats vs regular fit.
"Fried Chicken?" you had me there for a minute. Keep it Huge er a "Bent" Ben.
So. Good. Tight lines bro
Great stuff! 100% agree about the expensive stuff . 🥓
Great vid Ben, tight lines! ....:)
I have Orvis Pro boots and they rock
Just got a pair of Orvis Guide waders. May be the best I’ve ever owned. Certainly the most comfy. Keep up the good work. Love the videos!!
Ben, love the video as usual. I’m a total gear junkie but these shorties have helped me reduce my stuff to the essentials and have more fun. What are your thoughts on the term “Fudge” for browns...
Hmm. Never heard that one. Lemme toss it around a bit and see how it feels.
HOW ABOUT " I CAUGHT A LOCH LEVEN AND A VON BEHR BROWN TROUT TODAY"
Stop it
No midges? OMG YES!!!!!!! I have about -43% confidence in fishing them anyway. Plus I don't even have a fishing friend, so that works out lol.
not sure what to make of the amanda lepoure photo being contrasted with the word 'fake' 🤔
You should do a video on nippers...ok, don't. Tip #13: You don't need $100 nippers. Although, they do look pretty cool hanging from a $25 lanyard.
Tight lines bro 🤙🏻
That intro though. You got me 😂
pierced my ear my first day of trying. decided to watch videos after
First fish I caught on my fly rod was with a midge am I not huge 😟

Love your content man! Keep it up. And as always, tight lines!
Lol had too.
Thanks for the vid! Tight Lines!
