FIRST MODIFIED INEOS GRENADIER - IS IT A DEFENDER BEATER? | URBAN UNCUT S2 EP10

- Опубліковано 23 бер 2023
- This week we’re lucky enough to have been loaned a new Grenadier by Ineos in order to begin our modification programme for the vehicle. It’s time to get it scanned and see what will work and what won’t work on the car as Si, Bic, Lenny & Reece discuss the best way to make our Urban ‘OEM Plus’ mantra fit the DNA of the new Grenadier. We also get Si and Lenny’s first impressions on the road on what it’s like to drive.
What should we do to the new Grenadier and how should we modify it? Let us know in the comments.

With Urban getting involved with modding the Grenadier, you guys will attract a whole new target client base….very good business move IMO. Love your work guys
Thanks very much
@@UrbanAutomotive dependa what you class as off road vs where the urban keeping up with the joneses type looking for on road performances not off road..
What do you from the UK and Euroupe class as off road is it some form of farm access road thar might see a srevice repair every 15-30 years dirt roads that haven't been maintained since they were cut into the landscape 200+ years ago...
and this is why every european 4x4 vehicle manufacturer goes back to their prospective countries with tail fiar stuck up their arses because they get told by the local what they need to do to make it through an offroad..
this has happened in australia motor corps told:
Mercedes, BMW, Land rover and the list goes on..
And they still don't learn what is appropriate for UK and European roads aren't applicable for africa, Australia and central/south america..
Anyone know the color? Black or gray?
@@UrbanAutomotive
What's the color?
I actually really like it. The only thing that bothers me is the BMW gear lever. Obviously I’m aware of the BMW drivetrain, but in a car like that, it needs a much more utilitarian gear lever. It’s fine if they’re using in a car like the Toyota Supra, but it looks out of place in the Grenadier.
I totally agree Dan. I’m dubious that the BMW engine will hold up to hard work. Ineos are marketing this as a tough work vehicle.
LR fitted earlier versions of the 6 pot diesel & that didn’t go well.
Why they didn’t select either the VW or Merc 3 litre diesels beats me. Both those have proven track records in commercial vehicles.
The lever is not a BMW lever, it’s actually a ZF lever.
@@ACOGJESUSSCOPES It still doesn’t detract from the fact it doesn’t suite the car.
Could definitely do with some leather/material to toughen it up a bit
Option 1 for me. The continuity between that pattern on the sill and your step just works for me. Insert is nice but unnecessary IMO.
For those of us who have ordered and are waiting for the Grenadier, it was very encouraging to see how highly you rated it. No complaints about foot rests, wipers and vague steering but positive thoughts on handling and power. This from guys who have worked with all the top off-road marques from LR, Mercedes, etc, bodes well for us future owners. An analogue car in a digital world. 😀
LOL. There’s still time to cancel your order!
😁 Too late. On my drive. And loving it.
Why would it have been such a problem for the steering to have an offroad/onroad setting? And all the switches and the need to memorise the manual to do various tasks? It's like it was built as a throwback to the old defender rather than what the new defender would have been if Land Rover hadn't decided to build a SUV 'defender' instead.
An idea for your light bar. What about a bar / tube that looks rugged similar to the side steps.
Can bolt on somewhere near the side mirrors (fenders) go up the sides of the windscreen and across the top of the windscreen.
The lights can be bolted onto the bar.
Could be a neat / rugged design and will help with water catchment problems.
Grenadier having BMW's B58 engine means there are engine parts already available and could probably push north of 500hp on stock internals
I’ve worked on the automation over in Hambach where the car is built.. got to say the Grenadier is an amazing vehicle.. I’ve just got back from the site and the lwb / xlwb are robust machines.. looking forward to seeing what you guys can do with it..
When you say xlwb, do you mean the four door pickup platform that's been teased? Or is there something like a Gren 130 SUV in the works?
Wow love the Grenadier nice to see a car with proper switches and buttons inside can’t wait to see what you guys do with it I’m sure it will look amazing once you’ve added your touch 👌🏻
Option 1 is definitely the best, blends in nicely.
I’d like to see some genuinely practical aftermarket parts from you guys, as opposed to dressing up the Grenadier like a tart’s handbag.
A half bulkhead for the 2 seater Utility version would have me knocking on your door, as would a full length split level cargo deck, allowing storage for Pelicases on the bottom (out of sight from prying eyes) and lighter kit on the top deck. Preferably quick release, to allow use full cargo space when needed.
Awaiting build date for my 2 seater Utility with eager anticipation.
If this car is as durable as they claim, then after a year i will buy one and keep it for life
BMW? Fugghetaboutit
It’s actually utilizing one of BMW’s best engines of its class, and very user friendly in terms of maintenance.
We are doing the same thing with ours
Now I can't wait to see what you guys come up with for the Grenadier. Such a brilliant truck.
Thanks
I am not familiar with the work of Urban however, it appears they have a reputation of creative , quality work, I like the White vehicle in the show room, as a Life long LR owner an enthusiast , I am excited for the Grenadier , as LR , has slipped away from its Defender roots an gone into , “same as all other SUV” design. I am hopeful to be able to drive an purchase an Eneos Grenadier , excited as , they actually become available in USA 👍
Great video. I currently have one on order, one of the first thing I want to sort is a light pod but with amber flashing lights front and rear for site work. If you could have that as an option I’m sure it would be popular as this is a work horse not just a city cruiser.
As an ex-LR110CSW owner, I'm desperately waiting for mine to be delivered and I'm green with envy that you have been driving a Grenadier on the road. I want a vehicle that lasts longer than a PCP!
Great to see the smiles on your faces - I have driven one... I know that feeling... we just wait for ours to get off the line, on the boat and southwards to Oz
Space the roof light bar up off the roof to get around the water trap, exposed fixings theme is awesome 👏🏻
Thanks for the comment
Yes ! I've been waiting for you to get your hands on one of these ! Can't wait see what you do with it.
How about the ability to mount a rifle rest in the roof lights using the system on the doors. Also put infrared lights in the light bar.
Have the ability to turn off all the lights, including brake with the exception of the infrared ones.
Well done guys, I didn't think it could be improved on but you made a great start. I spent a few days with them in Scotland at the beginning of this year.
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Glad you enjoyed
I'm an old defender owner and I actually love it. cant afford it but love it!
Stunning motor! Just love it. Whatever you do to it, just keep coming back to its original purpose, its a utility vehicle first and foremost, so it needs to keep that image. Also be mindful of some Customers wanting to use it as a weekend 'overlander', so it is likely to need rooftop tents fitted etc..So any mods to the roof for example, would need to take this into account.
That's the plan!
Can't wait to see what you guys do to that monster.
Saw one of you're audi rs6's up close and I've never seen a car look that good in real life.
The carbon all around it looked another level.
Thanks very much appreciate the comment
One of your best videos and the car is amazing. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Appreciate it thank you
Looks great in all black!😁
So glad you guys are going to do this 😍
I think option 1 works well as it matches. Could maybe do something to integrate option 1 and the laser cut design of mounting points
Looking forward to seeing what urban magic is sprinkled on the Grenadier, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks! Will do!
Simon creasing his Travis Scott Jordans at 22mins 20 secs triggered me hahah😂😂😂
Excellent video. Great achievement to have turned around an aftermarket part so quickly. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. I'll probably make a video to shout about your great work 🙌🏾
Appreciate it
love the video cannot wait to see the finished vehicle. Ineos should see there sales increase due to the work you are doing on there vehicle. Keep up the great work.
Working on it!
Kudos for getting out front and starting to build third party accessories for the Grenadier. I like how you guys seem to be thinking...
I’ve been waiting on this, you guys will hit it out the park, add a wrap around front bar.
I'd definitely go for the checkered side steps, as a old Defender driver I need to be convinced and I am still waiting for a test drive here in Switzerland which is lined up apparently they have some software issues to clear first......
Option 1. Mine gets delivered in about 2 months. Can’t wait. And this is the first video I’ve seen of the car actually driving on a normal road. Good job boys
Cool vid! And looks great with some mods on👍😎
Love it... I might decide to go for one after my 110
Wait till the 90 comes out, Then we will see a transformation. I love these and want one.
certainly, hope they produce a 90 version,i always had swb defenders or 90s but sold my last one for a swb shogun warrior ,done like double cab pickups or lwb land rovers too big and bulky for me ,and much prefer them for work on farm and trailer towing
Great vid, can't wait for mine to arrive soon in Australia
fantastic video and intro of the new Ineos - keep up the great work
Thank you very much!
I loved the video and your enthusiasm...I was on the fence about buying one, until I watch your video. You ready could tell you like the vehicle. Well done!
Just a bit of feedback from someone who drives 4WD vehicles regularly in the Australian bush... the spoiler on the roof at the back will most likely cause vortices in the airflow which will cover the rear windows in dust. Lights above the windscreen result in poorer visibility closer to the front of the vehicle in dusty conditions, like when you're not the lead vehicle in a convoy, so it's more likely the driver will hit rocks and wildlife etc etc. I moved the spotlights from looking over the cab to back on the bullbar on my ute, it was so much better. Of course, if these are just cosmetic accessories for Chelsea tractors it doesn't matter.
Love that Grenadier, definitely earned a few more customers here boys, great video.👍
Thanks 👍
Fit some interior custom lighting and a cb radiofor serious users. I know you guys will no doubt improve it massively. Light bars would set it off. Looks like a very good car for you talented guys to do your mods on,, I can't wait !!!!!!
Option 1 would be my pick, what a great car, the build quality looks solid. I like the fact there are buttons/ knobs.
Agreed!
This car really is a great merger of analog and digital
Option 1 for sure.👌🏻
Can’t wait to see this completed
For the light bar... a singular Sentinel lazer lamp (other brands available) in carbon-like eggshell-shaped cowling on each front corner...will not effect the safari windows...then in the centre Evolution ST4 in a pod that sits on the raised area of the roof...thus eliminating the water trap...😁
saw two of these last year at Clarkson's Brewery, had a sit in one, they are solid, spoke to the guys there said they had taken then all over the world and put them through everything they could and nothing broke... can't wait to see what you guys do to it
Nothing broke? If they tell you that then either they were lying or not testing hard enough.
I have my name down for one and can't wait but I don't believe that for a second.
That was either me or a colleague. It is incredible and that's being objective.
It's something between a Defender and a G-Wagon! Surprised at how appealing it is 👌🏼
Cant wait for this. Take my money!!
Love the looks of this vehicle (except the tail light), and having it so sturdy, adds so much to it! Last step checked black tin was my favorite. Nice vid guys, seeing parts that will personalise the vehicle makes it even more attractive, this is what made the Wrangler such a success! Partnering with Ineos and providing them with optional mods could be the way to go, as it makes it a lot easier for the customers to put on from new, in stead of throwing stock parts away or store them and order separately... just an idea (must agree with you and Ineos of course). Great work guys! Looking forward to the next one :-)
My Husband has been waiting for this car for years he is driving me crazy, when he had a heart attack three weeks ago he said in his hospital bed I cant die yet i have got to drive Henno thats the name for his Green Grenadier. Last car he bought was a disco 4 in 2015 and he wont buy another Land Rover and we have been a Land Rover family since 1992 even my daughter drives a 2005 TD5 auto, myself another disco 4. But due to where we live and how we live with dogs, sheep, horses and shooting we just cant use the new modern Land Rovers they just break when you need them most. Lost count how many times we have towed out a new Range Rover from fields, its sounds like an anti Land Rover rant but we have always love them but only up to 2016 then I afraid it was over for us. Long live Land Rover before 2016 and Long live the new king of the road the INEOS GRENADIER.
That is a very nice truck looking forward to seeing what you do.
Thanks 👍
The Grenadier has grown on me quite a bit, now I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys do with it! Now, only if they would sell it in China 🤞
Wonderful car awsome professional people and a great video 🎉
Congratulations fellas... Pretty good for a bunch of cockneys. Like ur side steps a lot. We're be in touch. Brilliant
Another belter lads…Lenny had a tight squeeze 😂 geezer
Love it. I have a new 110 but really like the analogue look especially in this digital world.....😅 Intrigued to see what you do to it. It's a great platform and blank canvas.👍
Awesome job guys!!!
Thanks so much!
Well done guys.
That interior! Wow, just like Si said - kid in a cockpit style! Be interesting to see how you do with this. The stock front needs some work i think - looks a bit plain and you guys could work some "XRS" style magic to that. I think with the decent wheels, the wing additions may suit, but not too big. Light Bar and spoiler look good too. Look forward to more updates!
Like the Ineos DNA step - nice subtle detail
Love the option 1
I cannot wait to see the team smash this one out the park!!
Going to be unreal.
Appreciate it
19:55 gull windows in the rear with mountable exterior slits and interior surrounds for cuppa on the go, enjoyed the video lads, the only flaw with the genadier was not raising the roof height behind the front seats for bench seat in the rear,
Happy trails, 👍🚙👌🇨🇮
Great video 👍🏼 just organising mine at the moment in Australia. Getting the old model 23.5 fieldmaster with all the bells & whistles in the same colour but cheaper.
incredible 👏👏👏
12:38 people are going to lift these and use 18" wheels with A/t's, if your going to add an arch as aftermarket you'll have to to make sure to come out as much as is necessary for A/t's or mud terrain tires to be legally covered, 😏🤔👍🚙👌🇨🇮
Would love to see a Cool N Vintage retro take on it. Verde Teverne, Tan Alcantara, Galvanised flashings and bumpers, steel wheels:)
Love the buttons and dials
I have my test drive in two weeks. Cannot wait until they start the production run for the US
Re running boards: plane tubes with just a ‘sandpaper’ long-oval grip pad. The tubes look great.
Simon, how about a floating front light bar that is in two parts connected to the front puller/above the door and a gap in the middle then replicate the wing the same way at the back
Happy to send a pic
Tony Fabs 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Definitely the black side step thats matching the interior.
boys will be boys! Si and Lenny had a great emotional splash)
A safari roof just to drive around town is disservice. Overall, top finish. Love it
Greetings from Australia. Go drive a 3.0 BMW x5 Diesel twin turbo. That motor is a stonker. Great fuel economy and heaps of grunt
I bet you will change your mind on the Ineos power plant.
super video great job
Thank you very much!
I didn't know Eric Ten Hag works at Urban!
Cool video, cool car, I'm a defender fan! thanks 👏👏🙂
You need a button on the console you can press purely to play " An analogue car in a digital world"....with Lenny's voice of course. Looking forward to what you come up with guys .
Lenny signature edition 👌
Love the it, light pods make everything look better, would love to see a smooth cornered box section side step that kind of mirrors the edge of the front bumper, a little more utilitarian and aggressive, I know ineos offer a rack but a low profile rack that follows the roofline ( like the prospeed disco 3/4) with intergrated light pods would look insane , also 30mm wheel spacers and extended arches would add so much to the stance of this thing !
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙌
I think it would look better with separate indicators instead of them built into the DRLs with your light pods and rear spoiler and steps 👍
The first choise as the interior trim for the side steps. And please perhaps make some panels to cover the rear mounting points on the roof simular like the old Defender roof Windows!
I would buy one of your Urban versions someday!
To be honest never really liked anything Urban or non OEM but this video is probably the best advert for the Grenadier I have seen. Great review it looks like it’s got plenty of poke and is a Solid alternative to the Land Rover offerings.
That's great to hear and glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
The Grenadier looks promising. I have never been a car guy but I have a two door Jeep Wrangler and I LOVE MY JEEP! It is the coolest vehicle on the road and the most capable vehicle off road. I have the back seats out most of the time, so plenty of space for cargo. I LOVE MY JEEP!
I absolutely love this car
Love the steps I think the Ineos style rubber - the first version is the best
Would you guys please make some more stuff for the Grenadier? I have your side steps, awesome. Those lights on top of thye windscreen would be a huge seller. 🚙
Door Step: Option 1 with the stainless insert. The stainless adds some bling without being over the top.
the best love it
Love the Grenadier and more that Urban are going to tweak the analogue! Only thing I don’t like is the side profile of the front grille.. Just doesn’t look right! 😁👍🏻🇬🇧
As someone that loves defenders and have multiple of them, I have got one of these on order, coming in the next couple of weeks and I don’t agree that hardened original defender enthusiasts will hate the grenadier. I believe the grenadier is what the awful “new defender” should have been. I’ve been in one and have fallen in love with it. So I’m looking forward to driving around the grenadier. 😁
Can you make a step to fit over the factory rock-sliders?. + I like the light pod, not the rear spoiler so much though. Lots of people in a forum, seem to want to fit bigger wheels especially in Aus + USA markets and it will need a mod / real wheel carrier to avoid it hitting the little door. I have mine on order delivery soon!
British at its best ! This is what the Defender should have been ! USA sales are going to be massive
hello guys from jamaica all the options look good either one they all look good what a nice truck you guys are funny with that horn thing ithink with some red seatbelts and afew color touch up on the interior would nail it nice ass truck cant wait to c next video much respect from jamaica
I was thinking it's a cross between an older Defender 110 and a Mercedes G-Class. The H1 has served us well, but this is more of an enthusiast's rig. I am a fan, and it will be interesting to see how it does here in the States. 😉
This vehicle will change the 4x4 world , the Toyota land cruiser amazon or v8 was the best but so expensive.
The Ineos Grenadier is a game changer , looking forward to your transformation 👍
To be fair to Toyota I think your prediction may be a tad premature. In Australia Landcruisers have been around for 70 years and have proven their durability over some of the roughest, remotest country imaginable. Maybe in a decade or so we can review the Grenadier's performance.
Но он не дешевле крузера!!
