I forgot to mention, it's cool someone else figured out the bells attached to the rod holders vs on the rods. I especially do that using sand spikes while catfishing as I don't want alerts on the tiny taps. Good to see the pineapple packbait make the video. After you showed that, I started using it and it has done well for me. I do use the crushed pineapple vs the tidbits and often quick oats vs old fahion so it holds together just a bit better for me.
Cool that you noticed how I do the bells. Good to hear the pineapple has been working well for you. I should probably use that mix more often. Thanks for watching James!
James my uncle uses bells he clips em to the rod and forgets to take em off sometimes when he casts Its bad the bell is on the bottom of the lake but its funny to see his reaction when he does it.
Depends on the place. If the terrain allows for it, I'll pull a wagon. Otherwise, it's a backpack on my back, rods and net in one hand, chair and cooler in the other.
Awesome man! Recipes noted even though we have no carp here there are some fish that really enjoy that kind of baits. Glad we don't have invasive fish down here but at the same time I'm jealous of you having such big and good fighting fish available and accessible haha
Quick question Tom: Are you able to quantify the amount of sweet pellets you're adding to the half container of Old Fashioned Oats? Perhaps about a cup or cup and a half? I've watched this video several times and am not quite sure how big of a bag your using when you dump about half or 2/3 of it into the oats. I realize you're just doing it by feel and experience but I'd like to get the proportions close to yours! Thanks much and keep the great content coming!!
@@OutsidewithTom Hey Tom, fished with your straight Old Fashioned Oats/Sweet Horse Pellet/Cream Corn (with just a bit of strawberry jello) yesterday. It outfished my usual corn syrup based pack bait by about 2 to one! Had a great day with lots of action! Thanks again for the videos and responsiveness to comments!!
I kept it simple my last trip, made the oats/corn/cream corn bait. How fast should it break down in the water? I would reel it back in after an hour and it’s still (mostly) packed on the cage feeder.
Breakdown time depends on how tightly you pack the bait on. It won't break down much if it's packed too tightly. Experiment with it a little bit and you'll figure out how much is too much. Good luck!
@@OutsidewithTom thanks, I’ll play around. I’m going to pick up some sweet feed pellets too, I think that will help with breakup and make the bait a bit more effective. What works best for you, a bait that breaks up slowly or fast?
@@fishmore7957 Sweet feed will help. I use it pretty much all the time these days. After the sweet feed pellets break down in your bait, you can pack it like concrete and it will still break down nicely. When you reel in after an hour your spring feeder will be clean. I have no idea how long it takes for my bait to break down in the water, I don't pay much attention to that. The more important thing is that it holds together when it hits the water. If it blows apart on impact, then you don't have any bait near your hook. So I'd rather have it packed too tight than too loose. Hope that makes sense.
@@OutsidewithTom could you tell me where do you usually find carp? and at what time of the year you normally catch them? i have fished for them all year in 2020 and i only snagged one by mistake.i am in Quebec so we have similar weather.
@@Francois_Dupont There are too many variables and not a single answer that I can give you to find the fish. Each body of water is different, and the fish will be in different places depending on weather, food availability, time of year, water levels, underwater features, etc. Do a youtube search for "How to find carp" and you will find lots of info to give you ideas on how to find them in the areas that you are fishing. Good luck!

Five great baits at the end five great fish simple techniques but it works but you get days you get skunked that’s fishing 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Great recipes, definitely going to try it out on my next session

Thanks Mark!
I love to now more about catching carp thanks
I've got 200+ videos on my channel, most about carp fishing. Feel free to check them out.
Cheers for the help, struggled with catching them last time so hopefully I won’t next time
Happy to help, good luck on your next fishing trip!
haha I had no clue it was this easy! very nice
Yep, it doesn't need to be complicated. Thanks!
Have you ever tried eggs as your binder instead of the cream corn? Love the videos
That is definitely something I haven't tried.
Super videos!! Can I substitute calf manna for the sweet feed?
I don't know the answer to that. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
tom thanks for the video. i have ridden RAGBRI several times. what does your total kit look like when moving from the vehicle? do you use a cart?
Depends on the place. If the terrain allows for it, I'll pull a wagon. Otherwise, it's a backpack on my back, rods and net in one hand, chair and cooler in the other.

Yeah, in my area the carp are really the only opportunity available to catch a 20+ pound fish. It's pretty fun, thanks for watching!
Great information Tom. I do have a question do you use certain ones for certain time of year?
Not really, I just use whatever flavor I feel like that day. Oats bait works all year long.

I never measure anything. My best guess would be around two cups.

Hi Tom
When you are using the sweet potato from a can in the oats. Are you using the whole can of sweet potatoes and juice in the oats?
Yep.
Have you had much success with the pineapple in the oats?
@@jeremydurbin4320 Yep, caught my PB grass carp on pineapple.
I miss warm weather fishing already lol.
You and me both! The other day I was looking on Google maps to see how long of a drive it is to Texas. 😀
@@OutsidewithTom lol I talk about wanting to fish Texas probably once a week there winter is probably nicer then our spring weather wise
Haha, for sure.
Does the oatmeal/cream corn/sweet corn bait keep well in the refrigerator if you don't use it all in 1 outing?

Hello friend which bread is the best brown or white 😮
They both work.
what kind of winter do you have there? you are in the middle of the US so it must not be so cold i suppose.
We have pretty harsh winters here in Iowa. This year we had lots of snow and temps down to -30F.
