Pathfinder Air Bag Light - Crash Zone Sensor Recall Fix and how to turn off the air bag light

  • A Nissan Pathfinder has it's air bag light on - the owner takes it to the dealer and the dealer tells him it's the Crash Zone Sensor (CZS) - What the dealer doesn't tell the owner is that that make, model, and year car has an air bag recall where the crash zone sensor was the defective part that needed to be changed - for free - problem is he doesn't say anything and the owner had to buy and install the part themselves.

I have to add my thanks to the many who have commented below. I've had the airbag light flashing for a couple of months now on my '06 Pathfinder (I know, safe, right?) but haven't found the problem until finding this video. Once I looked through the grill at the crash zone sensor, I saw: 1. the sheet steel cover was not installed over the sensor, 2. the sensor was corroded so badly there were 2 large cracks right through it. I ordered a used sensor on Ebay at about $60 US and when installing it last night, discovered that the cover had been installed in reverse leaving the aluminum sensor body exposed to catch all the road salt and spray through the grill opening. Anyway, long story short, the new one went in easily, I reset the light, and it's off now. Thanks for the video!

Thanks carquestions for the great explanation from beginning to end. I have a 2010 Pathfinder and a few months ago my airbag light started coming on. I went through the diagnostic exercise and found the problem to be the CZS. I sourced the part on eBay for C$157 and it arrived today. THe biggest issue is getting the old one off!! Lots of grinding but finally got it off. The new one was on in 3 minutes and then went through the reset directions by turning on and off. It worked perfectly!! Light is out and I assume the airbags will function properly now.
Thanks again. This saved me a lot of money for sure.

@@denisdemchenko6521 Hi Denis. I'm glad I kept some records on this. I have a few different numbers and not completely sure which one landed me with the right part. Here is what I searched:

      2) Part No. (Old) TCEA007Y150599

Thanks, I located it right away thanks to your video and I pre-lubricated the bolts with liquid wrench, then I looked up the transport Canada recall and printed it off , and took it to the dealer, he said the recalls are vin number specific and he would look into it when I bring the truck in for service. I didn't see in the recall a specific set of numbers as the recall was specific to the salty climate where I live in Nova Scotia. The connector looks good and the light wasn't blinking right away after the radiator change, it is like 2 weeks later. Also the dealer said he never changed one ever.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I went through the clearing process (before changing sensor) to see what the diagnostic flash would look like. Its 2 long flashes then 2 short flashes. I don't know what this means, but Nissan wants to charge me to tell me whats wrong. So here's my question. 3 days after discovering this airbag light issue, I noticed I had a headlight out. I looked under hood and found the driver side headlight bulb out of the socket (turned on) burned a wiring harness. Would you happen to know/think I may have damaged a wire to the airbag sensor (sensor still good)? Thanks in advance

He did as much as he could do - checked the online Nissan Database vin search and went to the dealer - both said sorry - Nissan used this sensor on all Pathfinders built in the US in 08 - Without question going to one dealer should be sufficient - if they can't determine if one of their own vehicle's is in a recall then they should start selling shoes - much less responsibility is involved

I agree. I have a co worker who had a recent bad experience with Honda of NA regarding a TSB. Anyways, if one dealer can't resolve your issue I go to another. And if you can't get help at a dealer then I go to corporate. I know things are a little different in Canada but still it is unacceptable.

Thanks for the great video.Could you give me the source where i can get the sensor for 119$ ? Are they the same sensors for the side impact air bags? Both of my side impact sensors are totally corroded ,almost beyond recognition. They are beside the front seats under the carpet and the plastic molding.

  • @VLK-73
    @VLK-73 Рік тому

    I have an 07 Xterra.
The sensor looks identical (very likely a shared part).
Based on my airbag light flashing pattern, I was able to determine it was the driver's side impact sensor, which is located just beside the drivers seat under the carpet.
I refuse to pay $200+ extortion amounts the dealers charge for this item, so I searched my local junkyards.
No success yet, as all the ones I seen thus far seem to have been already raided and taken out (this is already very telling, as this is likely a wide spread issue)
But now that I seen this video, I started thinking, that the front sensor might also be compatible to be used as a side sensor, since it looks exactly the same.
I never checked any of the junkyard Xterra's for the front sensor....do you think I might be onto something here?

Friend of mine told me the problem is in the wheel, in the center part, it is broken and due to that the Horn stopped working and the airbag light is always blinking. • @carquestions

I also will not buy any Nissans again either. I bought mine while they were unloading it for sale new on their Nissan lot. My Air conditioner has never worked right and finally quit when my warranty was out. Also These pathfinders can have faulty Radiator problems that cause the transmissions to go out as mine did 3,700.00 to fix. My son also drove a 07 Nissan Altima that had Transmission issues that wouldn't shift automatically to second gear some of the time and the car would bunny hop and we would have to get to safety and turn the car off and back on again. Also $ 1,900.00 to fix and many other owners had the same problem also requesting recalls for their safety. I filed a complaint with the NTHSA and never heard anything back and the car is now totaled from an accident. I have spent way to much money on Nissans

I have an older Snap-on at home, hasn't been updated in a while, but it's way past 2006. I'll check at my shop, we have the latest scanner and software.

Nissan’s is like that with their “should be a recall”items as I went through it with my frontier making sure I contacted them each time but they made the decision that I wasn’t a good enough customer to worry about, so what are you gonna do all you can do is not buy any more Nissans

I got a used part off ebay...if the light stays on, even after I reset it, bad part?? Or maybe something else? Thanks

If the code hasn't been wiped out - you need to do that then see if it comes on again and points to the front sensor - if it does - bad sensor
