Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.
Impressive!! I do feel for Christy being out in the cold. She is a trooper!!
I had a Dodge 3/4 ton with the Cummins, and a BOSS V blade, now that was a snow removal machine.
I no longer have that, and have had a number of different snow removal tools.
Had just the walk behind snow blower, did not care for that dirty to use, and cold.
Had a 4 wheeler with plow, good for a small amount of snow, like you were plowing in the video, but again cold to use.
I acquired a 4ft snowblower for the front of the 4 wheeler, that had its on 13hp Honda engine and was a very effective way to move a lot of snow, but again, without a cab very dirty and cold, if wind is blowing.
Sold the 4 wheeler, and got a Polaris Ranger 700 side by side, acquired a 6 ft plow, and I do have to say how impressed I am with the amount of snow it will push. The key to pushing is weight in the back, it has a max weight limit of 1000lbs, but I find 400-500 lbs is plenty to push an enormous amount of snow. Another key factor is to keep blade straight when first pushing, and use the angle only when cleaning up, or on the longer straight passes.
I do have an older David Brown with a straight blade, but without chains(2wheel drive), I say it is like building kitchen cabinets with a chainsaw. Very hard to control, and usually have a massive amount of gravel, and sod, in the snow bank, or spinning.
So all in all, the old Dodge was the machine, but for easy operation, and maneuverability, the side by side is the ticket.
Balaclavas work well on protecting the face & neck. Snowmobile suits or diving Dry suits are good. Baffin boots are the best.
The body protects the head by restricting blood flow to extremities if the head is cold. So if your hands & feet are cold, protect the head.
Both Milwaukee & DeWalt make heated clothing. I choose the DeWalt because you can move the battery around.
What we need are gauge wheels on front plows, not just rear plows. Sounds like a great TTWT project. :)
Down in Mississippi we don’t get snow maybe once every 7-10 years, our city, county, state doesn’t have any snow removal equipment. We’ve had two days of freezing rain/snow/sleet. We are stuck at home until it melts.
Yeah same here out of power 2 days straight then came on one day then next day went back off now they back on
Well I woke up to waist high snow drifts here in Michigan and had my son shovel out to the barn so I could plug in the block heater on the 955👍. Now sitting here watching videos until the 955 wakes up from slumber.
Haha! I saw the thumbnail with the 4WD Deere XUV and just assumed it was good works tractor...love the content.
Hahahaha I did the same thing then I heard Tim and I checked the Channel
Tim new to your channel, what State and where are you located?
@@arthurr.2075 they are in Indiana I think
Yep. Central Indiana.
One tip is when plowing with lighter vehicles momentum is always your friend, I like to plow 12-15mph
When spring comes you will have to showcase how a Broom attachment will pull the rock out of the grass and also thatch the yard in the process!!!
I was just thinking that or the rake.
Enjoyed watching from Florida. Use to live in Illinois, grew up there. Did my share of pushing snow. Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
I learned a trick from an old farmer years ago , he would plow out his lane , then move over about 30 feet on either side of the lane and make a pass down and back . The reasoning was it would catch the blowing snow , and keep it off of the lane . Btw you might want to put a strobe light on the Gator for when you're up by the road to keep from getting hit .
Tim, I tried to use the pvc. I found out that it breaks up in the cold. I found that cutting a metal pipe for the blade and rounding the edges works great. This idea was from the episode where you where showing the gentleman what options there where for ❄️
I also tried the PVC on my small BX front mount blower. It does not like going in reverse . It will rip off from the gravel
Christy - more adorable every new video. Thanks, take care
I agree! Thanks foe the kind words.
I have a GOLDEN RULE == Always be prepared for more snow! When that crap turns to ICE you're locked in, so I push it back a lot every time. We (Chicagoland) got hammered with a very wet snow and some rain back on 12/29/20 and that crap froze up and has made it hard now with all these other snows we've had since, pushing it all back, so I have 5+ft piles nows down my driveway! Still love the snow! Fun Fun
I wish I had a enclosed cab on my Bobcat skid steer yesterday. I plowed about 8" of snow, and this morning you can't even tell it was plowed.
Love the video's keep up the good work and god bless and stay safe.
Yep. Same here! Wasted my time yesterday!
@@TractorTimewithTim time spent playing on your tractor is never time wasted 😊
I cut plexiglass panels for the two sides and the back of my Bobcat. No front door. It keeps the wind from blowing thru the cab. Really helps and a cheap fix.
@@joebedinghaus2766 I'll have to do that for next winter.
Thank you Tim! I’m going to have my first gator snow removal experience tonight with the snow coming to MA. Your video is super helpful as my fiancé trained instructed me but he’s not home for our first snow storm so it’s all up to me. Wish me luck.
Sounds like fun!
It's time to get the big broom/brush for Vinny. Awesome snow removal on concrete. Good luck with the finance committee.
From the looks of it, Artic makes the best (floating sectional) snow blades for cement and concrete clean up. 👍
Phil here in NE Indiana. I got a 54" snow blower for my JD 1025R. I have a 1,000' asphalt driveway. As you know in Indiana we don't get that much snow but the years we do the snow blower works great. I've used it 4 or 5 times so far this year. I added an electric actuator to move the shoot up and down. What I don't have is a cab so yes it does get cold out there. The JD 835M Gator...sweet ride there Tim. I have an 825i S4. Works great with the grandkids. Cold here this morning...zero. Stay warm.
I've had my gator 850 diesel for 13years and factory 72" snow plow for 10years. Absolutely love it for snow removal!
That Gator with plow looks like it's just the ticket for your needs. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Tim. My wife seen your video and now she wants a Gator like yours. Looks like I'll be talking to my John Deere dealer. Looks like fun with the blade.
I've got a driveway similar to your's here in MN, although we get quite a bit more snow. I have about 1/4 mile long gravel, large gravel turnaround/parking area, and then a short cement driveway like your's. I use my plow truck with shoes on the gravel, and then I use my 2038 R bucket to scrape the cement clean. And then I take my 60" rear mount blower on the 2038 R to blow the drifted snowbanks back from the sides of the driveway so that there is room to push snow for the next storm. Gravel cleanup is always a pain in the spring - hoping to save up soon for blacktop. But there's definitely not a single machine that will do it all. I have a Ranger too, but it just doesn't have enough weight to run a plow
Hi Tim, do you feel the snows weight trying to push the utv sideways as you push? Just wondering i didn't know how much weight the utv would push before that might happen. Utv looks like it would be fun to push with. Thanks for sharing
It didn’t push the Gator sideways nearly as much as I would have expected. Really didn’t notice it.
You guys are super cool together. Life is great when you have a great sole mate. God Bless!
Thanks Phil! I agree. Christy and I are having a good time together. She is being a good sport with my tractor addiction!
Very cool video we normally don’t need snow plow in Texas but we do today in Fort Worth
I am amazed how well the Gator pushes a blade full of snow! Great vid
enjoy your music and the upbeat attitude
Very nice Tim, I am watching this next to the fire:) Thanks for a great episode again.
Last year was the first year for me to plow with my CFMoto UTV. I live in Ontario Canada, and we get a bit of snow sometimes. The UTV is better at plowing snow than I expected, but there is a LOT of changing gears back and forth. Today I plowed with the UTV and then had to get the BX23S out with the bucket to move the piles of snow a bit further back. Sometimes it is a bit much for a UTV when the piles are higher than the hood. LOL!! Keep up the great work!
A nice and cozy way to plow snow in the enclosed Gator!
Kubota needs to come out with a rain blade to push all the water out here in eastern NC. I think we’ve had 5-10” this month alone, but the son/sun is shinning today!!!!
I would normally say, glad you guys are getting the snow....keep it up there. But here in North Texas, we have had our share too including sub-freezing temps for almost a week! Come on Summer!
That's a nice setup there. I think I would go for tracks for the winter. Better traction, power, and ground clearance. You already have the ultimate snow removing beast ...... Johnny 5. Do you have a blade, pusher, or blower for it? The bucket will dig out any drift situation mother nature can come up with. Funny, a couple of days ago here in Montana we got a lot of snow and it drifted badly in the rural areas. Got a call from a customer to come rescue her Mercedes drifted in half way down her 1/4 mile rural driveway. Then her husband tried to rescue her with his gator and plow just like yours except he didn't have the cab (below zero and blowing) and got stuck himself. Went out there with my Johnny 5 (same as yours) with an 8' truck blade I retrofitted and the 7' box blade. Box blades are wonderful snow/ice tools too. First had to plow and dig to the car, pull it out of the drift (got to admit, first time extracting a car that probably costs as much as my house made me a little nervous), and back it out all the way back to the road. Luckily, the Mercedes like a lot of high-end cars, have an extraction eye you can screw into the frame in the rear or the front so you don't rip important parts off pulling on it. It was easily twice the snow you guys had there in that episode and Johnny 5 tackled that job without blinking an eye. With the car out of the way I needed to push on to the house but had to pull the high-centered gator out as well before cleaning the rest of the driveway up to the house. Didn't even feel either vehicle in A2 gear in 2 ft deep snow. You could easily do your hole property on this video with Johnny 5. If you don't have any snow implements for it, I would recommend that you get at least a blade or a pusher for it. It will blow your mind what you can push compared to the compact tractors. I love my 1025R (no cab), but they're in different galaxies in capability. A pickup with a blade could not even remotely have done the job we did the other day. Stay warm, and I agree Christy should have the heated gator to chase you around on tractors. Also I've been meaning to ask you if you have a part number for the buddy seat you have in Johnny 5. My wife likes to ride along on these adventures and has to sit rear-facing on a 5 gallon bucket. A buddy seat would be real handy, even if it's a tight fit. I (she), would really appreciate it ..... Thanks.
Nice set up 👍 the Morgan’s need one like this with heat and cooling.thank you
Mike is tougher than me! He doesn’t care about the cold :-)
Cat in the lap warmer watching TTWT. Good times in the Palouse
Hi Tim an Christie thanks for your time in making the videos have a day love from TEXAS
Looks like you need some driveway markers I run them on my trailer so I can see where the back is at. Costco had a pack of four with reflectors. I bet Menards, Lowes, and Home Depot has a selection of them. Snow plow services will install them before the snow flies to mark the boundaries. Christy is a champ standing out getting those shots. Please give us an update on your brother.
Tom’s heart is fine.
Looks like it's time to get a snow blower on that new Kubota!😁 Christy could sit in the Gator to stay warm! Waiting for some more snow Fri-Sat in MA.
Dang I was hoping for a new snow video this morning.. with all the snow we have been getting this week!! That storm on Monday was insane I would have loved to have you come dig us out!!
Tomorrow morning!
Good video. I've had to use my 1025R exactly once for snow. Live in the banana belt in Oregon. Rain yes, rarely snow.
As a delivery driver. I appreciate the passable driveways because of the rear wheel drives
Sounds good! Bring me something fun to play with :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim I am further north west of you
Thats my thing what to get a front blade for the deere 2038r or the sxs tractor would be great for deeep snow but sxs quicker
Not sure if your all geared up for the upcoming snow we get Thursday but you can come down with us and try all your toys out at once. Lol. 30 minute drive down to us and we have everything from asphalt, chip and tar, pot holes, new concrete we can’t scratch, side walls, and I think about 2 miles worth or gravel. Be fun to run all different types of equipment on different types of surfaces and see what works. Of course like you mentioned it’s impossible to know if we’ll have heavy snow or nice fluffy stuff.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing the video with the blade and pipe! Been thinking of doing that as well
Your wife is a champ always out in the cold while you have fun in the warm equipment. Haha. I think for the rest of the year she should get to run equipment while you film. My wife doesn’t even come outside while we get any snow. She won’t even drive in it. Can’t believe you came all the way to Pennsylvania 20 minutes from my house and we didn’t get to meet. You could have done a video at my house running some of my equipment. Maybe next time. Tell your wife she can run my equipment while we film. Lol
I regularly plow with a 825iS4 with the same Curtis plowat work. I suggest adding about 250 lbs or so to the rear. I found that made all the difference with the S4. I also think you will find the Gator with rear ballast will outperform a truck pound for lb of vehicle. I find for the size the S4 out performs the one ton trucks that we use.
I’m impressed with the gators ability to plow. Plus your inside the cab and warm. I wish I had a cab for my JD usually I use my snowblower attachment this year I left my front end loader on. I’ve got about 10” to plow today from the storm. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Stay warm.
Bruce from Mason Michigan
Snow types, at least in Colorado... Sierra Cement (wet & heavy). Champagne powder (light & fluffy). And everything in between! 🤠
You guys got more than we did. I been on the Kubota the last two days
Now that is how you move snow. Wish I still had my plow truck.
We got about 17 inches south suburb of Chicago. I use a Polaris ranger with a plow, 500 cc manual blade turn. Use winch for up and down. Works good.
I plow with a CanAm Commander with a 72” Moose blade. It’s runs off the winch with manual angle. I took the shoes off and run it all the way down. Once the ground freezes up good you won’t get much gravel up. It’s light enough to skim across the top, but scrapes concrete completely clean. If needed I can raise it just a skosch and leave a layer of snow. Hope this helps.
Today has been the warmest for the last two weeks, 22 degrees. It's been 4-7 for a week 1/2 and 8 -12 below overnight. We seem to be breaking records in Kansas. The lowest temp here was in 1905 at -40 degrees. Our average winter Temps are 12 to 15. We have about 4 inches of snow on the ground with a few small drifts.
Hey Tim
If you get a lot of snow like I do here. I plow this way. I take the brunt of it off with my box blade. As you know if you too it back you can get right to the gravel without pulling up the gravel. Then come back with your plow and get the left overs. I keep my gravel yard pert near to the gravel even after a yr of 8' of snow.
May God bless you both. Enjoyed the vid!
I’m not warm 🥶😂, I’m glad you let Christy in the gator 😉👍🏻
The slides just back of the blade control the height of the blade to the ground? Letting it hang from the chain is adding stress to the whole system?? Thank you for the video
Tractor mounted snowblowers are wonderful to use they can feather out the edges so the snow does not leave piles on the edges
I have the same Kubota as you except it has a cab and a front mount blower. I know that ATC's with a blade will twist the frame after a while. With the blower. you are not making a pile that when it gets deep you have to move it.
I was absolutely sitting by the fire watching this lol
I have a TC45DA New Holland with a cab and an FFC angle blade on my loader for the gravel lane here. Without the John Deere fuel tank filled with concrete set up on my 3 point, I'd still be trying to get traction.
Christy, you could drive the Gator around and take video of Tim in Johnny’s cab. It’s your heated video vehicle. Great video as always!
I finally put the snowblower on my GC-1720 and got to blow some snow. I like that it is a lot cleaner than trying to use the bucket and pushing it around. I do enjoy blowing snow. Now time for second coffee and some scrambled eggs.
We were supposed to get a bunch of snow, but ended up with mostly sleet here in central Ohio. Still might get the Yanmar YT235 out, because I can. 😁 Good video Tim and Christie!
Just got done plowing about 10" here in North Indiana. That`s about all a sub compact Tractor with a 5' blade can handle in one push. 4wd.
One bit of advice for newbies to plowing: Always keep your head on a swivel, especially if you're using larger pickups & such. I've been plowing my neighborhood for many years & (luckily) have never damaged anything backing up yet! (Had a few close-calls where a tree will suddenly appear!)
Looks like it did a good job
Tim did you upgrade the front springs for added weight?
No.
Thanks, I ordered Curtis snow plow and salesperson said may need to upgrade front suspension, springs. Haven’t got plow or instructions yet, just curious.
Tim , I was wondering , why do you have the shelter logic open , I see a lot of snow in there.
Why not close it up to keep the snow out.
The ends don’t work very well. We need more work on them. They whip back and forth like they will rip apart!
You got the snow we should have gotten. Here in MD freezing rain/snow. Warmed up to 45. Looking for snow on Thursday!
We have cleared snow for 2 days straight. Admittedly, the first day was a waste of time. Might as well have sat on the couch! Wind just drifted it back shut each time we got it plowed open!
@@TractorTimewithTim Will be watching your next episode. Tell Christy to stay warm. I felt the freeze too, LOL! Hey Tim, you might one day check out a piece of apparel for Christy. A heated snow suit/coat. Just a wild thought.
Looks like someone having fun
finally a machine like i have-ha! i have the jd plow instead of the curtis one u showed.. mine i can use down pressure if i wanted too. i only use the float design. no chain on mine. i too agree gator needs a slower speed on the fan for sure.also if i had a cab on my 2520 i would prefer to plow with it-way easier than the switching gear lever of the gator. i plow in low range too-found it works better-easier on the belt IMO. thanks for the review-oh how i love the heated cab for plowing snow-so glad i got it.
Yep! The heat and a/c are a TRUE luxury!
Thank you Tim great video. Like to see equipment working
We live near Mooresville..We’re looking to buy a used gator to push snow and work around the property. We’re both seniors. Any advice?
This is the year of Snowmageden. North American is being hit all over the Place. In the West. Victoria B C they got 2 feet last week. We in eastern Ontario got 10 inches this am. And tonight its Snowing again. Johnny has his work cut out for himself in the Am. God Bless.
I'm honestly jealous. We're southern Indiana and have almost a 1/2 mile driveway that's pretty steep for about half of it. Trying to drive up it with my old ford 2000 is bad enough but trying to go down with that happy layer of ice under the snow pulling a flat blade is like herding cats, all over the place.
I live in a neighborhood with paved streets, about a miles worth. MY neighbor had been plowing it for several years with his Gator (not the XUV). The only issue with that is that he doesn't clear to the shoulders and in years with lots of snow, the road has narrowed to a single lane. Our roads are only 18' to begin with so it doesn't take much to get to a single lane.
You guys are doing a great job . You need to let her drive!!
And to think, it was just Valentine’s Day a couple days ago. Something wrong with that picture! Lol
we got some 50-60 inches of snow last week here where I live......no snow today for us here just blue skies and a outside temp of -2
Well there’s certainly more opportunities to plow/move/redistribute snow after your video....along with providing more content for trying out different machines and methods. Next time Christy gets the warm job. I’d rather watch yours, than having to do it myself. 😉 I’ll give my Johnny a workout, but at least I’ll be in the cab! Blessings!
We finally got dug out today... but we had lots of fun!
Your plowing looks easy. imagine plowing a curvy driveway as steep as the roof on your pole barn. 20". Good luck.
We ended up with 8-9 inches, hard to get a good measurement with all the drifting. We have some drifts close to 3 feet. I know it is nothing compared to those northern areas, but the most we have seen in a while (typically in the 2-4 inch range). It is a nice warm -4F this morning.
I have a gravel driveway and use my tractor to push snow. I usually move it going backwards with the blade cutting edge towards the tractor. I find this works really well for keeping the gravel in the driveway. I only use the cutting edge of the blade or the bucket if I really need to. Like I said, helps keep the gravel in the driveway. Will be interesting to see how the blade with the PVC pipe does. Haven't heard of that method before.
I have a Coleman UTV and I put a taperer plow on it. The tapered *state plow design" peals the snow beautifully here in northern MI. My driveway is 1/4 of a mile long into the woods. Wonder if they make a tapered plow for the gator? If they do, I'd recommend it. John Boy moves my snow piles wondrously.... :). The tapered plow (wider on the right side) would definitely help curl the snow off better than a straight blade...... a PVC pipe will break. My neighbor put a heavier 'BLACK' pumbing pipe on the bottom of my blade and it works great. Doesn't dig into gravel/etc. and glides over the ground when pushing/plowing snow.
I have the same thing I have cement up around the garage and then gravel in the driveway. I wondered if there was a way that my shoes could be lifted up easily and often scrape the cement and then put them back down easily to do the gravel. maybe you come up with something.I enjoy your show thanks
Tim Christi looks like the way to move snow
God Bless All
PaK
did you look at boss for a snow plow for your gator?
Hey Tim, how difficult is it to adjust the blade angle of attack and the shoes on the bottom of the blade that decide how high the blade rides/how much snow is left behind ?
That cab would sure be nice. I use a Polaris 700 Sportsman and a JD 3032.
you could put up some temporary fence (i.e. orange plastic mesh) that could act as a wind barrier and capture the snow before it gets to your driveway.
Love those Gators. So versatile!
If you'll push the snow at the end of your drive where the drive meets the highway up the road off of the shoulder a bit, when the plow comes through, it probably won't fill your drive end up. You don't need to go far. I'd say less than 50 feet, but it depends on how much snow you have. It works well for me in Northeast Missouri
Another good video
Thanks Tim
Always awesome videos !!! Thank you
I purchased a 1025R with a cab, heater, and snowblower. My walk behind snowblower (Ariens) was great, but I have a very large gravel drive and at 71Yrs. I could't do it any more. The Tractor is great.
My problem is, because I got the snowblower we now only receive an inch at a time here in Traverse City. I'm thinking of billing the road commission for the money they're saving.
Man, beats the heck out of the open Kubota with a box-blade I'm using for the job! I should really look up Heavy Hitch and see what they've got for ours.
Yep! Heavy hitch has great stuff!
@@TractorTimewithTim Sure looks like it! Not too awful 'spensive, either!
Plowed snow for almost 2 hours this morning with my X738 rubber edged 54 inch blade. Had I known we would get 10 inches I might have put the 54 inch blower on. 4 hard surface drives. Tomorrow I'll switch to the 2025R with 53 inch bucket and edge tamers. Neighbors stone drive and road in case they show up this weekend.
Interested to see the loader mounted blade. I have the Frontier AF10 loader blade but have had limited success.
I have a 1025r with a cab and a front mounted snow blower. Snow blower is nice do there is not any banks or ridges on sides of driveway to catch drifting snow. We get a lot more snow In southern Minnesota.
