It was nice to see the original Detroit skyline (pre-2000), including the Hudson's. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it. :-)

What makes it no longer original?

The Hudson's Dept. store (what was left in 1993), the Renaissance Center pre-GM ownership; no Comerica Park, no Ford Field, no Little Ceasar's Arena, no Q line, and Greektown Casino without the expanded hotel/tower.

Its weird to see the Compuware location as a park, the still standing JL Hudson building and no Campus Martius.

@@michelinman8592 Also the RenCen station itself was completely replaced due to the berms being taken out. Check out the parts by Cadillac and Broadway, lots of empty space without Compuware, YMCA and Z Garage, plus most other buildings in that area are vacant.
The station announcements are done by a different person. This guy says "Michigan Station" while the current one calls it "Michigan Avenue Station."

Fact:The DPM now goes in the opposite direction it did back then. The counterclockwise goes uphill for a while and accelerates to keep speed when going uphill. In the other direction, it goes downhill allowing gravity to bring it to higher speed, making it faster.

You're absolutely right. It does travel in the opposite direction...good eye

bobozo389 I was over there twice last summer and really enjoyed it. No question, Detroit still has a lot of problems, but on the whole downtown is better than its been in a long time.

The Red Wings hosted the Maple Leafs at Joe Louis Arena that night, hence the large amount of vehicles along Civic Center Drive.

it's amazing that they had automated voice notifications back in 1997. I wonder if it was an actual recording as in tape or was it actually early a bit digital? I remember travelling on the people mover several times and two things stood out: 1. It was really noisy 2. It looked awful from the ground a real eyesore. I wonder if they are still running to car trains like that? That's hardly efficient, but judging by the number of people at the stops in the video, there was not a lot of use for the system...
I suppose a benefit would be that it would be far less likelihood of being attacked by a robber or a murderer on the elevator system then there would, if it was a subway or ground-based method because hey, if you did something, how do you get off the train?

Same cars still used now (identical to original Vancouver Skytrain ones) but there are plans to finally replace them.
The station announcements use a different recording or voice now. I think this one is better.

Detroit's People Mover Looks very similar to Vancouver British Columbia Canada's Sky Train 🚉.
