She has experience from other games (Hollow Knight, Hades, Hunt etc.), so she can pretty much replicate anything mechanically, but her biggest problem is putting everything together. She just gets overwhelmed. She also lacks a bit of game sense, but that's something you gradually acquire over time, not something you can just learn by force. edit: I will add that we game next to each other, so she saw a lot of games from me. There's a lot of tech, parrying, interesting healing mechanics, etc. So even if it was her first time ultrakilling, she already did her homework!

A few months ago my boyfriend decided it would be nice to introduce me to Ultrakill, specifically, the lore I believe my profile picture speaks for itself about how that turned out- Anywho, the fun thing is that so far all I've done really is watch him P rank all the levels as he explains them and stuff, but truth be told, I've yet to try the game myself lmao Hopefully someday we'll give it a try once college gives us a break (I've never played a first-person shooter before and that paired with how muchI scream while I play... It is definitely easier than it seems. I was gonna do a video comparing Doom and Ultrakill, but I gotta redo it from scratch. Basically, Ultrakill works by encouraging you to experiment, whereas Doom works by forcing you to play like a true Slayer. Each style has a specific purpose, but Ultrakill's is far more approachable by newcomers, in my opinion. Besides, the game also has assists, 4 difficulties, and is fairly short. So you got no excuse not to give it a shot right NOW. Take breaks when you need to, and remember to HAVE FUN. Kat took like two months between 6-1 and 6-2 because she was scared of Gabe 2 being too hard, and she nearly gave up at Gabe 1. But you'll see more on that in part 2 ;)

I try to push myself more with every video, but I think I'm reaching the higher end of what I can do right now. Firstly, my job is getting in the way a lot, so it takes ages to make something like this. And secondly, my pc can barely handle edits like this, and DaVinci slows down to a crawl, or nearly crashes at some points, making editing both a slog, and stress-inducing. Dunno if I'll be able to keep this quality long term, but I'm gonna try!

Yeah! There's a lot of video game language that you just internalized over the course of your gaming career. For instance, where to look for secrets, cracked walls are always breakable, enemies always have openings, red barrels explode, spatial awareness, etc.

Thanks! It can become a good habit if you dash at the same time. You can dodge the explosion. You can see me do this vs Sisyphus in my guide - I overpump or shotgun parry + projectile boost + parry + dodge the self-damage all at once!

Because she didn't speak much initially. She's a bit shy. And my favourite part of ultrakill is seeing people get stuck, figure out new tech, and then getting better. Everybody has their unique playstyle, and I find watching others develop their own super interesting
I struggled with the big head demon of the start, more than 50 deaths maybe. Your girlfriend killet it in her first try. I can't manage to use the marksman correctly. Your girlfriend loves the marksman, and she's a menace. Though she was playing on "easy" difficulty she managed to learn some mecanics i still didn't used yet, and i've gotta admit that she learned really fast the concept of the game and his mecanics than me, Such a lovely couple!
The easier difficulty helped her explore her options, because she wasn't immediately dying for not playing her best. And I'd say that me encouraging her to try different combos and reminding her of ones she forgot about was a large factor, too. If you played solo + on a higher difficulty, you probably only started experimenting more when you were close to the end of the game, or when preparing to go for P ranks. For some people, Violent is a bit too fast, so they resort to tried and true combos (proboost spam, for instance).

I needed her to rerecord a few clips from prelude because she wasn't used to saving things with shadowplay, so she would often cut a clip too short, or not record the most important parts. And when we started recording this, I didn't think I'd be making a video on her experience until after prelude, so the clips were more sparse initially. I noticed before the next time she played, so I asked her to get a few more clips from prelude before going ahead with limbo. Could have put a disclaimer for that, but it would slow down the video even more, and I think you're the only one that noticed so far. You got a great eye! And on top of that, she had mic issues so there were nearly no recorded reactions for her first time through prelude and part of the way through limbo. I knew I could mostly get the same gameplay, but not authentic reactions, so that's why I put a disclaimer for the lack of a mic near the start of the game, but not for the gameplay. I guess this shatters the illusion a bit, but I hope you can still appreciate the rest of the video, as the other levels weren't plagued by technical (or human) errors! I chose to retell her first journey as accurately as I could, even though I needed to make her get a few clips again. Wish I knew ahead of time. Hindsight is 20/20. edit: I just remembered after posting this that this is the exact reason there's no 1-S footage. At that point we didn't think about me making a video, so there were literally no clips. She got startled twice, without even seeing what killed her, and after that she figured out the pistol would work as an additional light source AND could kill something wicked. So the rest of the level was just her getting lost in the maze and constantly shooting in the dark for 20-30 minutes. So I didn't ask her to record that again, because it was too boring. I still told you basically how it went in the video, but I didn't want to elaborate more on that
Yeah, I agree. In 4-4, you can just spam a coin, wait for him to shoot, and counter shoot it immediately. That keeps him occupied, so he rarely attacks you, AND gives you a consistent source of damage.

6:55 her style freshness is at dull which is impossible if you haven't got the shotgun yet. What's going on there?
I needed her to rerecord a few clips from prelude because she wasn't used to saving things with shadowplay, so she would often cut a clip too short, or not record the most important parts. And when we started recording this, I didn't think I'd be making a video on her experience until after prelude, so the clips were more sparse initially. I noticed before the next time she played, so I asked her to get a few more clips from prelude before going ahead with limbo.
Could have put a disclaimer for that, but it would slow down the video even more, and I think you're the only one that noticed so far. You got a great eye!
And on top of that, she had mic issues so there were nearly no recorded reactions for her first time through prelude and part of the way through limbo. I knew I could mostly get the same gameplay, but not authentic reactions, so that's why I put a disclaimer for the lack of a mic near the start of the game, but not for the gameplay.
I guess this shatters the illusion a bit, but I hope you can still appreciate the rest of the video, as the other levels weren't plagued by technical (or human) errors!
I chose to retell her first journey as accurately as I could, even though I needed to make her get a few clips again. Wish I knew ahead of time. Hindsight is 20/20.
edit: I just remembered after posting this that this is the exact reason there's no 1-S footage. At that point we didn't think about me making a video, so there were literally no clips. She got startled twice, without even seeing what killed her, and after that she figured out the pistol would work as an additional light source AND could kill something wicked. So the rest of the level was just her getting lost in the maze and constantly shooting in the dark for 20-30 minutes. So I didn't ask her to record that again, because it was too boring. I still told you basically how it went in the video, but I didn't want to elaborate more on that

This goes to show that V2 is a bit of a pushover. Dumb tactics just break him. Try beating him with only parry and you'll see what I mean.
Yeah, I agree. In 4-4, you can just spam a coin, wait for him to shoot, and counter shoot it immediately. That keeps him occupied, so he rarely attacks you, AND gives you a consistent source of damage.
