Fun fact about Convoy: it was Peckinpah's biggest commercial hit at the box office when it was released. I kinda love it. I always imagine a guy sitting on a loading dock somewhere in San Diego waiting for his stuff, wondering "Where the hell is my freight?"
Good video, thanks. I got the German 4K edition by ARTHAUS. It's the same Studiocanal double disc set just with German print. It came in a nice slipcover, surprisingly without any rating stickers or prints. Included are the 4K UHD disc, the Blu-ray disc and the booklet. No fancy box, no art cards, no script. I paid about 24,50 Euro (20,80 Pound) when I pre-orderd it.
Thanks Elliot. Love The Third Man. Wish there was a release like Kino Lorba’s puts out. Agree with you - I Don’t need all the bits and pieces. The cover is fab. I am one of those who would not buy a disc with certification logos - so silly.
I'm hoping that Studio Canal to Criterion holds true for African Queen as well. I was getting spoiled by Warner Archive releasing so many of Bogarts' contract films. Looking forward to this MGM classic.
I just got my copy of The Third Man and I nearly jumped out of my skin when I opened the outer box. lol. I was not expecting the music. It's really silly quite frankly, but ok sure, different I guess. hahaha.
One of my all time favourites but £45 is a bit tough especially in a cheesy edition that I don’t care for. Hoping for a Criterion or standard 4K release.
I watched African Queen last week,it looks great in the main very bright and bold colours.Really a Tour de force from the two main actors. One funny scene in 4K is the one with the weather or is it flies ,anyway it looks like they ripped pieces of paper to use as the special effect.😂
Im a fellow Peckinpah fanatic but im not sure if i want to get the studio canal or the big Imprint box. I have Imprints other Peckinpah boxes except for The Killer Elite so its tempting but i dont know!
Love videos like this, thanks Elliot But i think Convoy which i have seen a few times is not worth £30, if i see it nest year for £15-20 i will grab it
I agree that a release of the third man without all the bells amd whistles would be very welcome. I,d buy it. I read about a box set of early Hitchcock by Studiocanal. Any chance of a review on that?🤔very happy with the release of the African queen, since the Eureka version is out of print.
@ I bought the special edition without really looking at it lol, assumed it was more like an Arrow LE box, quite surprised when I saw quite how big it was when I opened the box 😂 oh well
Just had blakes 7 series one first time on blueray in the UK and godzilla 4k criterion first classic movie 🎬 on 4k 😊 captain Kronos 4k special edition collector's set on pre order January 😊
I completely agree about the music for The Third Man. My wife and I watched it for the first time last year and when the music seemed to infiltrate scenes where it wasn't needed, was overly repetitive, and at times far too loud, we had to turn it off.
My third man is broke too. It never played opening the box, it played when you lifted the next layer to reveal the disc. It only played 3 times then never worked since. Very poor quality gimmick 😡
Yeah. The zither is iconic. So unique. Would not change a note. Not a fan of Studio Canals gigantic boxes. Very wasteful. Im holding out for a standard and/or Criterion. Im a huge Peckinpah fan! But Convoy is rubbish really. It was a total Smokey and the Bandit rip and a paycheck movie. Theres only one sequence that feels like Peckinpah and that is the redo of the Wild Bunch bridge scene but with a semi truck. Its incredible really. Nothing we'll ever see on film again. Worth the price of admission but the rest of the film is uninspired.
The Third Man is a great film (and the music is also great). But I do not like this new box set. The design is ugly, the main theme playing when you open it is annoying and as far as special features go, I do believe the Criterion release has it outmatched quite easily. The African Queen is fine. Kind of underrated these days, really. But Convoy is not for me. I hated that whole "We've got ourselves a convoy!!" scene that was so popular around the time of Smokey and the Bandit...
Next up, here are my best 4Ks of 2024 so far - ua-cam.com/video/Kae66fxsqVA/v-deo.html

Thanks a lot , I'm an italian fan of your nice presentations ❤

I've wanted to pick up the third man but haven't gotten to it yet. This set looks pretty sweet.
I'm hoping that Studio Canal to Criterion holds true for African Queen as well. I was getting spoiled by Warner Archive releasing so many of Bogarts' contract films. Looking forward to this MGM classic.
Any plans on getting the new 4K of Dellicatessen 1991? Might be something that interests you Elliot . Studio canal also has a 4K out of it

Just had trainspotting 4k with slip new release 😊😊😊
For the money of the Third Man set I'd have expected the CD soundtrack included like their previous Blu-ray release.
I have ordered it though 😊

The music is light activated, so if your in a dull room it doesn't always activate

I brought the bluray last year I will not buy it again they should of released it in 4k to begin with video companies suck.
Love videos like this, thanks Elliot

The Third Man is an absolute classic, so to see such uninspired design and packaging gimmickry just seems totally perplexing and superfluous…
I own the out of print Criterion blu ray of The Third Man. I'm keeping it, this release is way too expensive here. 😢
I note there’s a standard edition of the Conversation coming out on the 18th of November, wonder if one for the Third Man will follow this
I assume it will. I’m holding out for it.
@ I bought the special edition without really looking at it lol, assumed it was more like an Arrow LE box, quite surprised when I saw quite how big it was when I opened the box 😂 oh well
@ lol. She’s a beefy set. Were you surprised by the music?
@ almost pissed myself!

Incoming Criterion The Third Man 4K UHD release... please make it be real...
@@MagnitudeReviews could be likely - they’ve been releasing Studiocanal titles in recent times

Third Man is a great movie but that packaging is silly. Save the pop-up books for kids movies.
About time they dropped some of the tat in these boxes and lowered the price
The Third Man 4k is overpriced at £45.00 - it should be no more than £30.00!
